About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2013. Check Bonaventure Golf Club listing for the remaining opened 18 holes.
Bonaventure West is also known as the Resort Course. This 6189-yard course has less water than the East Course and one extra par 3 on each nine. This is a Charles Mahannah layout, showing this renowned golf course architect at his best.
It has wide fairways and undulating greens. The golf course has lots of tropical vegetation and inhabited by wild parrots, blue herons, snowy egrets, and many other forms of wildlife. Fairways are generous, but hole design makes low scoring a challenge.
The course is perfectly suited for golfers of all skill levels

Huge improvement
Been playing this course for over 10 years. The last few years the course went extremely downhill to where it was almost unplayable. Read a lot of reviews that said the new owners put some money into the course and it was a lot better. Played yesterday and was not disappointed. The course was in great shape compared to what it was. The greens were the most improved area. They were smooth and rolled well. One or two needed some more work but overall they were great. Tee boxes were decent, could use a little more love but you can tell they are moving in the right direction. The food shack at the turn was great. Had lots of options for a mid round snack. There was also a cart girl on the course that was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely be putting this course back in the rotation.
Great Course
First time playing the course and we loved it! Greens well maintained and fairways were groomed with no obstructions!
Course
First some tee boxes were like playground or community parks little to no grass, some par 3 had zero room for error. Some greens had crab grass an was so hard balls would bounce on the green an end up behind the first cut
Better than I expected from reviews
After reading some so so reviews I was pleasantly surprised by the course. It was purchased by a new owner 11 months ago and they have made steady improvements since then. Challenging holes for every skill level. Greens are still on the mend but roll pretty good. A great snack shack at the turn and very sweet ( and absolutely beautiful ) cart girls in the course to keep you hydrated. There is a little language barrier at the 19th hole but it worked out ok eventually. I would absolutely play here again.
Work in progress!
My first impression is when you see the driving range. It needs a lot of work. The tee box areas are in need of a little TLC. Bunkers filled with sand, nice fairways, and average greens. I golfed here many years ago when it was in its prime. The course layout is very challenging and players should play from the right tee lengths. The signature elevated par 3 hole has a spectacular waterfall in front of it which can be intimidating. Looks like the management team is working hard to get it back into its prime status. Pro shop and staff members were very courteous. I would definitely give this a consideration to play.
The old East Course is coming back
Finally, after many years of neglect, someone has recognized the "fixer-upper" opportunity.
Still a long way to go but for the first time in maybe 7 or 8 years, I can say that I would play it again.
It was always a good layout and with better conditions coming back, the "East" could be really good again. Good Luck!
Same course, New Management
I’ve always heard about the terrible conditions at Bonaventure in recent years. I played with a random who mentioned it’s much better as of recent condition wise so I had to see for myself. Decent conditions but needs some work on the tee boxes and great layout. Will be back soon!
My New "Home" Course
I hadn't played Bonaventure since 2019 and I'm SO HAPPY that I came back. The course is coming back in shape and it's so nice to see. The layout isn't easy, the fairways are well maintained, and the greens are fast. I think that if they keep maintaining the course and take care of the greens, Bonaventure CC will be a top course to play in less than a year's time. Can't wait to play my next round here!
Good experience
Played here because it was in close proximity to Vacation Village. Plan on playing it again before my vacation week is over.
Recommend it to everyone.
Terrible
First of all, there was at least three foursomes on every hole and it took us nthree hours and 26 minutes to finish the front nine. The conditions of the fairways and tee boxes was horrendous. All in all I can be assured I will never play there again. Thank goodness, the gentleman and the pro shop reimbursed us 50% of our green fees, but unfortunately it was a day of golf wasted and I still have not seen the refund on my credit card.
Course condition IMPROVED!
I played this course about two years ago and it was in terrible shape. It has come back from the dead. I would totally play this course again. The waterfall hole actually had the water running. Lol. The amenities are still minimal but at least the carts are all charged up and they even have a cart girl. They’ve also added a “food shed” after the ninth hole. See you soon.
