The Reserve at Orange Lake Resort
About
There are two 18-hole championship courses and two nine-hole courses at Orange Lake Resort & Country Club. The Reserve is the newer of the championship golf courses although technically it could be considered the older of the two. Originally designed in 1982 by Joe Lee, 16 years before the Arnold Palmer-designed Legends was added, the course was completely redesigned in 2005. New water features and more sand were added and seven holes were rerouted and redesigned. One hole that was made more challenging was the fifth hole. A long par 4 was transformed into a long par 3 that plays to almost 215 yards. In addition to the four golf courses, Orange Lake also boasts a lighted driving range and putting green as well as two chipping greens, one which features a sand bunker.

Poor condition especially the greens. Pedestrians on the golf cart paths are a safety issue.
Have played this course several years ago and a few times over the last couple of years (because The Legends course was in such poor condition). The greens are inconsistent, average at best and in one case actually dug up in places, with turf being replaced and still 12-15mm above the surface of the green, in others. There were no rakes at some of the bunkers.
People staying at the resort actually use the cart paths as walkways, with little or no regard for their safety, on one hole they actually walked past us as we were on the Tee and as the path crossed the fairway further up the hole we we had to wait until they were out of range. This is also a problem on The Legends course and I’ve highlighted this in several reviews and verbal feedback to resort staff, with no effect.
Hadnt played here for quite a while and Course was in reasonable condition albeit very wet underfoot in places. Thus the 99 degree rule applied and also some cart path only. Very disappointed with starting staff who was rather abrupt and not very approachable. Unable to get food/drink when we finished as they did not accept cash.
Course much better 7 years ago
Round was very slow with no ranger to be found to keep play going- several areas in fairways were unplayable due to wet and mud- if I paid more than 16 dollars I would have been severely frustrated
Enjoyable day!!
Was a bit skeptical playing after a big rain and Hurricane Irma several weeks ago. Most of the trees were cleared. Fairway was still drying out, so we did the cart path only...no big deal. The greens were in real good condition, but a bit slow.
It took us about 4 hours and 15 minutes to play from the cart paths. We will definitely go back again.
Disappointing
Course had suffered from Hurricane Irma and a lot of clearing up was being undertaken by Greens staff. Some fairways very wet and got some plugged balls. Some tees moved very forward. Greens were very good for time of year, true and fairly quick. Rest of course was in the poorest condition I have seen for a number of years. Overall disappointed at condition of course but cheap green fee reflects this. Will still play again.
Great course in a very natural setting
It was a great course to play on. We weren’t pressured from anyone behind us and never ran into anyone in front of us. It was a bit it ritating that carts were restricted to “cart path only” that day due to wetness from Hurricane Irma from the week before, but it still turned out to be a great day of golf. Keep an eye out for old wooden boardwalks on marshy areas; as they transition from cart path to wooden bridge, the mismatched height will throw your cart up in the air if you go too fast over it. Overall, very satisfied.
Keeps Improving
Course keeps improving each round we play there. The pace of play was excellent. I realize the grounds need to some time to get back to normal, looking forward to when the tees are back to the regular spots. The fairways are growing in and the greens are rolling nicely. Looking forward to our next round there.
Course should have been closed.....
Have played this course many times over the years, today it should have been closed. GolfNow posted zero alerts to the fact that there was ongoing renovations in progress and that it was cart paths only. When checking in, the pro shop didn't even inform us of this as well-it was only when we headed to the first tee we were stopped by the guy cleaning carts and told that it was carts paths only. With the wetness of the course this was the correct decision on their part, but golfers should be told this in advance of booking....also the greens were being topdressed with sand-if done properly this isn't an issue, but the piles of sand being left on the greens was inexcusable...it was like putting on wrinkled up bath towels. Worse conditions on any course I have ever played, definitely not up to typical Orange Lake standards. If I had booked direct through the course, I would have asked for a refund after just a few holes.
Great shape
The course is in the best shape it has been in in some time. Tee boxes, fairways, sand traps and greens were all in great shape. And, it was the week after the hurricane. I'll be back.
After Irma
This course is not ready for play, after the hurricane it's simply not in playing condition and need a bit of a clean up. I will give it more consideration in the future.
First time playing since they reopened the back 9. The course has come back some from poor conditions earlier this season. The work on the back 9 continues, but improvements have already been made to the sand traps. The white soft sand is a big improvement. I like this course and hope they continue the work to raise it back to excellent conditions. I will play it again.
Challenging course
Excellent course to play and very challenging for any level of golfer.
Decent course for the price
If your looking for a fun cheap place to play an extra round on vacation I would play here. The greens are very good and they were in the process of putting new sand in the bunkers when I played here.
Disappointed
We've play several times since we moved here in 2014. Poor drainage from all the rain, maintenance - weren't notified(that's why it was cheap $12pp), hole #2 only has one tee box, there use to be other tee boxes but, for some reason, they took them away. Were told we can't play in our golf sandals (we always did) but, they let us go this time. Don't think we'll be back until the winter when we have to wear golf shoes.
