The Reserve at Orange Lake Resort
About
There are two 18-hole championship courses and two nine-hole courses at Orange Lake Resort & Country Club. The Reserve is the newer of the championship golf courses although technically it could be considered the older of the two. Originally designed in 1982 by Joe Lee, 16 years before the Arnold Palmer-designed Legends was added, the course was completely redesigned in 2005. New water features and more sand were added and seven holes were rerouted and redesigned. One hole that was made more challenging was the fifth hole. A long par 4 was transformed into a long par 3 that plays to almost 215 yards. In addition to the four golf courses, Orange Lake also boasts a lighted driving range and putting green as well as two chipping greens, one which features a sand bunker.

Strong improvements at Orange Lake Reserve course
I played Orange Lake twice in 2016. The first round was in January so I cut the course conditions a bit of slack. I returned in March with high hopes - but no improvement. I'm in Orlando this, week and decided to give Orange Lake one more try (with help from recent upbeat reviews online). It was , overall, a good decision. The greens are very good, fairways good, and tee-boxes acceptable (mostly). The staff is helpful. The practice areas are fine. My big complaint is the almost 5 hour pace!! That is not acceptable!
The Reserve
We played The Reserve,, on Valentines Day thinking it would not be busy, it was the opposite, it took us 5 hours to get the round in.
The bag drop off area, and pick up area was far to small, needs to be looked at.
The Pro shop and Marketplace Did not accept cash, a first for me, there should be a sign for you to purchase your Driving Range tokens from the Pro shop, you get all the way out to the driving range only to go back and purchase tokens.
Foursome
Enjoyed the day! Great time, great play, will return!
Great condition
Great condition, challenging pin placements and plenty of scenery . First time here and will come back
Good value
Friendly staff course in good shape greens excellent.
Would have no problem recommending this course
Good shape.
Good shape this winter. Fairways and greens are in top notch winter condition.
Getting better every day
This is a nice little resort course. The new management has done more in the past few months than Integrity did the entire time they were in existence.
Value and fun
Nothing in Orlando beats this for playable, fast , golf. I always play in 3-4 hours max. Always bring friends and they always agree. Great value for a medium grade course , five star service. So much to do with my time here , I don't want to be watching people teeoff for five hours.. Great pace of play here , every time. Fairway to green well taken care off and watered. Greens are true and good.
Great improvements
We played this course a few years ago and we were not impressed. What a difference! The greens are slick, running true a pleasure to put on. The fairways are green and the course layout is great, very interesting which is what we like. The only down side this time was the pace of play on the front nine. There was no starter on the first tee and several two balls had gone out which caused a back log . My husband spoke with a few people along the way and eventually the pace increased. It certainly will not put us off going back.
Suggestions
Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in good shape; and the course layout is interesting. However, it's incredibly distracting and dangerous that non-golfers use the cart path as a hiking trail with NO regard for golfers - chattering away and walking in front of golfers trying to play the game. Also, advising golfers of cart path only conditions up front rather than at the first tee leads to more satisfied customers, particularly on days such as the day I played when the course was DRY with the exception of the single hole where carts are NEVER allowed in the fairway.
Good layout
Very hard to find in the complex. Pro shop a hidden counter in a market store. Do not return at 9 no food. Course was nice took five hours to play, saw drink cart. Once. No one at end of round to help with clubs
where am I?
Bring a GPS or rangefinder -yardage markers are almost non-existant. What about some in between yardages on sprinkler heads?. Greens were in good shape
Best shape in a few years!
I have played many times over the years and I think the Reserve course is in the best shape ever. Always good rolling greens with a moderate amount of undulation. Many of the holes call for accurate tee shots and accurate approaches. Fun course to play.
Improving
As an owner at the Orange Lake Resort I’ve played here over the last twenty years. I played the Reserve in the earlier years but then preferred The Legends when it was introduced, until a couple of years ago. Although the condition of all the courses was getting worse each year I played the Reserve more often over the last couple of years as it has been better value.
With the recent change in management all courses are now steadily improving, re-seeding has made a big improvement, and at present the Reserve is in better condition, especially the greens,
As a resort course the Reserve, playing between the properties, is tighter than the Legends though still enjoyable.
A big problem with both courses however is that the cart paths are used by non golfers, eg for exercise, strolling with children (even with push chairs, or on cycles ) etc. An obvious safety problem, being ignored by the Resort Management, that must eventually result in someone being injured.
It’s also annoying that as an owner at the resort it would cost me more to play , if I booked through the resort / pro shop, than a member of the public booking through GolfNow, or similar, however I look forward to playing the Reserve again and will continue to use Golfnow.
To end on a positive note the staff at the course were excellent and managed to get my three ball group out early and ahead of a couple of four balls.
Pace of play was good, taking just over 3 1/2 hrs to play.
