About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6878 yards
Slope 133
Rating 74.0

The Clipper/Galleon Course at Shipyard Golf Club, which combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses on the property, creates an exciting combination of long fairways and perilous hazards. Clipper/Galleon has a rating of 74, with a slope of 133 from the championship tees.

With plenty of sand and water hazards, Clipper may be the most difficult of the nines. Designed by George Cobb and built in 1970, Clipper requires a good long game and a soft touch around the greens.

Galleon, the original nine holes, meanders through large oak and tall pines. Accurate placement of approach shots into heavily guarded greens is necessary on this nine.

Shipyard

This course, and all its amenities, are dated but a great layout. I enjoyed it more than many of the "tricked up" newer courses in the area. Course conditions could be improved but looks like they are working hard.

Galleon & Clipper

Course is a good layout but fairways were dried out and greens slow.

Good from the Green tees.

Winter golf means dormant grass. A mis-hit shot will roll as far as a good hit will fly, so hit them straight!

I really enjoyed my golf day and putted ok when I realized uphill is better than downhill. This course will score better on replay.

Other HHI courses are in better shape

Too many bare spots in the middle of the fairway. Recent price increase not justifiable. Other HHI courses are in much better shape.

The greens fees where the highest we paid all week and the course condition was average at best. The only redeeming feature of our round was the pace of play. Never had anyone holding us up or pressing us from behind, Finished round in 3 1/2 hours.

First time for my Bro, Loved It

Brother-in-law played here for the first time. He loved the course. Very excited to see so many gators too. Course conditions pretty good for February golf. Definitely return.

Fun for all.

There’s 27 holes, which offers lots of variety. Practice facility is very nice, and you get a small bucket of balls with your green fees. All three course have lots of water everywhere, so you have to hit your targets. Courses all had very nice conditions. Tons of wildlife everywhere, which was a very nice bonus. Morning pace of play is great. It slows down considerably if you do the twilight or super twilight rates. As a 3 handicapper, it was a good test of golf, which I enjoyed immensely. AAA+++

Slow play problem

Took 5 hours to play a round. Followed two threesomes and there was no ranger to speed them up.

Over Played

I understand it's winter and grass is dormant, but there were too many bare spots. I suspect from over use

Played other courses with much improved conditions

Probably wouldn't help sell rounds but maybe consider cart path only and 15 min. between tee times? Still enjoyed it, but disliked playing from bare ground too frequently
