Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
About
Jack Nicklaus designed the golf course at the Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run. The 18-hole, public course is touted as having one of the best layouts in the area. The par-72 course offers 7,014 yards of challenging and fun golf. Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run's design emphasizes strategy rather than power. Sand and water hazards add interest to the course. In addition to providing a great game of golf, the course also has picturesque scenery with the many oaks and pines that snake though the course. It has been named one of America's Top 100 Courses priced under $100.

Fantastic greens
Im not much of a review guy but this course deserves it. I visit from Maryland 2-3 times a year and this course is always one I play. The greens are always in great shape and fast which is the most important thing for me when finding a place to play. The rest of the course is always in really great shape and it’s a fun track. I’m a 8 HCP and this place always test that in a really fun way. It has and will continue to be my goto course each time I visit.
Great course! Great staff!
From the time we got there it was fun! We were greeted by a guy named BK (BRian was his real name and he gave us the ins and outs of the course.). Then the staff couldn’t do enough for us. The course was outstanding and we created great memories there.
Poor Customer Service
I signed up to play here with my son on GolfNow. I sent my clubs and shoes to the club via ShipSticks. We arrived at least 30 minutes before our tee time to find only one staff member in the pro shop and a line that was 6 people deep. By the time all those in front of us checked in, we only had 10 minutes until our tee time. I told the staff member about our reservation and my clubs sent by ShipSticks. My clubs were nowhere to be found. He told me they had arrived, but had no explanation on where they were. I quickly had to pick out a rental set that was too short for me (I’m 6’-6”), but some balls and play in my tennis shoes. We had to hurry to get to the first tee with no warmup. We were greeted by a starter who told us how to order lunch at the ninth tee and out of bounds rules. We noticed several staff outside (starters and marshals) and could not understand why another staff member was not assisting in the pro shop. Seemed like a poor use of resources. The course was an okay layout and could be fun to play earlier in the season. The greens were slow and the traps had heavy gravel that sprayed onto the fringe and greens from shots played from there.
The highlights of our round were the nice couple from Colorado that we played with and the responsiveness of the guy in the clubhouse that prepared our lunch at the turn. I had previously played a Nicklaus course in Colorado and unfortunately this experience was not even close. I contacted my home pro and he was able to track down my clubs. They were picked up by a courier a day before I played without an address shown where they should go. I can’t believe a resort course would not have a more organized system for guests traveling to play their course.
Friendly staff
Staff was super friendly. We played as a foursome the day before thanksgiving. Course conditions and pace of play were excellent. Would recommend to anyone visiting Hilton head.
Pace of Play
Primary issue!! Have the ranger do his job. At one point on a Par 4 we had one group on the green, one on the fairway and two waiting. You have to do a better job of controlling pace. One group ahead of us was a five-some ( on a Saturday!). The 5/some was not the problem but that is a definite perception issue. We had 12:40 Tee-time and we finished in the dark.
Love this course condition/layout. We will return.
Ok course
Nice course, nice layout, tees and greens are ok. The greens were about 90% recovered from aeration.
Golden Bear
Have played Golden Bear many times and thoroughly enjoyed it, When we booked this time no one told us that it had been recently over seeded and was cart path only, This created great difficulty as my husband has difficulty walking. It actually ruined our day. I think this info should always be included.
Quite dated course in its prime was probably a nice track.
No message ahead of time. they were cpo. Course was in rough shape. No balls for the range. No GPS. Even my scorecard was already used by another group and wasn’t replaced.
Jack Does It Again, Loved It!
This was the second course on our trip to HHI. Despite some light showers early on, most of the round was overcast with a little breeze. Perfect to me. With as much rain we had leading up to this day, the course was perfect with no drainage issues. Staff was exceptionally friendly and they paired me with a charming couple from England. They had played much more golf I did in the area and they agreed the Golden Bear was among the best they played. This is my 4th Nicklaus course and I have never been disappointed.
Played with my Dad here for my birthday. We had a couple groups of hackers in front of us that were pretty slow but not terrible. It rained all morning before our round and the course drained and played great at our 2:30pm tee time. Greens rolled great. I will definitely be back
Nice course for the cost
Very nice course for a fast paced round. Staff friendly, course in good shape.
CART PATH ONLY
I'm 73 years old and the day I played it was 95 degrees and humid. When I checked in at the golf course I was informed that the back nine was cart path only. Not because of weather, that's unavoidable. The golf course applied some sort of chemical causing the cart path restrictions This is nit something we should learn of at the pro shop just prior to seeing off.Had the golf course acted properly and informed us and golf now other arrangements could have been made. There are plenty of golf courses on Hilton Head. The golf course should be reprimanded for this callous action.
