Beautiful
This is a beautiful place in the back of nowhere! The greens are Hugh! First time there and it rained off and on all day. We played the first 8 then it rained. We sat in the woods and watch turkeys play at the hole for 45 mins. We are definitely going back! The course itself is well maintained and is designed for everyone. Can use more road signs around the 10-13 hole. This course is extremely spacious.
Great choice on vacation
A buddy and I are down in Williamsburg for Vacation and we’re looking for somewhere to play. We came across Royal New Kent on Golf Now and decided to give it a shot.
Starting from the first hole the course layout was challenging but beautiful. Every hole was fun to play and had pretty wide fairways for the most part.
tee box, fairways and greens were all in phenomenal shape.
We will be playing this course again before we leave.
Challenging, fun, amazing staff
From the moment you step into the first tee box you can tell you are in for a challenging but fun day at RNK. The staff has been nothing short of spectacular on each of my visits, making you feel right at home. The course is LONG and requires you to hit shots. Beautiful layout. Only knock on the course would be bunker upkeep, but not bad.
Course in great shape. Fast greens. Only down side , the bar/restaurant was closed at 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon.
Can't Blame the Course...mostly anyway.
Golfnow has been having some computer problems so when I got to the course, it showed a 4some at my tee-time. My name was nowhere on the tee sheet. Rather than wait for nearly an hour, I went off the back but at the turn, the wait was nearly 90 minutes! When Golfnow called the course to confirm the issue, the pro said there was none! He had not checked me in and didn't bother trying to find out why I was having a problem. My frustration is that this pro has a negative attitude towards me and seemingly assumed I had created the issue! As a 3 handicap, I always try to play at a consistent pace and do what I can to accomplish this but why does this pro have a problem with that??!! I guess I'll just have to plan on a 5 hour round if I'm going to be playing Royal New Kent.
Greens in great shape
Greens were fast and in great shape, tightly packed. Soft on approach shots but not chewed up from ball marks. Course was mostly empty so pace was good and staff very friendly. Wet day but still able to take carts on fairways. All good.
Great course lacking elements
Great course a real challenge . Starter Roland was great and very informative on the course
No food at the turn … no cook and not even a thawed hot dog
Back nine was 3 hours and we quit early no Marshall keeping pace
Great course … don’t come hungry or in a hurry
Duane
Tough and Fair
The course is fair if you play well and control your golf ball. But penalizes you heavily for bad shots. Love the challenge.
JUST WOW
First thing I’ll say is don’t go by yourself if you’ve never played or don’t play here regularly. Second bring a box of balls not a sleeve. Third if you think you’re a decent weekend golfer like I thought I was go play this course from the back tees. It will 100% change your mind. There’s SO MANY blind tee shots and blind second shots. If you think your taking driver off all the tee boxes thing again. This course was PUNISHING BUT it brought my love back into the game. Love this course and I will without a doubt return. This is an either love your hate course depending on how you play your shots for sure but I love the course I would recommend
Friendly/Great staff. Challenging course in great condition. Definitely the most interesting course layout I’ve played.
Beautiful and Challenging
Even as a high-handicap player, this course is a wonder to play! Having golfed at Royal County Down in Ireland, this course is very similar. I had the pleasure of meeting the Director of Instruction, Bobby, while practicing and the GM as we let them play through and they all made my round that much more enjoyable. Great Job on this wonderful course, I’ll be back soon.
Challenging Layout
The Tees, Fairways, and greens were great. The bunkers were unkept, we had to play them as ground under repair. The range was closed, the starter said they were having trouble getting range balls. Several blind tee and approach shots including a couple of the par 3's. If you have not played here before bring extra balls. A course layout on the scorecard would have helped tremendously.
Nice Course
The Tees, Fairways, and greens are in great shape. The bunkers are unkept and had to be played as ground under repair. Bring extra balls if you have not played here before, if you get out of position you will probably lose a ball. Many blind tee shots and 2 blind par 3's. It would be nice if there was a course layout on the scorecard. The range was closed on Sunday morning, the starter said they have not been able to purchase range balls.
The Beast is Back!
I've played RNK many many times in its lifetime and have seen the good and bad. I'm really happy the course is back to its former glory. The greens were fast and nearly perfect. The bunkers were washed out, but that's because there has been so much rain in the area the last few weeks. It was CPO, but the course drains so well, they may have gotten away with letting carts on the course. The fairways were nice too, but again, they couldn't cut due to the rain. I'm looking forward to playing here at least once a month.
