Royal New Kent Golf Club

Stellar course that should be added to anyone’s “must play” list. I drove down from Annapolis, MD to meet a friend here and it was definitely worth it. Strantz’ design shines through on every hole and there are plenty of moments during the round when you can’t help but appreciate course. I’ll definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking to try a new track.

Awesome course, drove up from VA Beach to play this with some friends from MD. We have played Strantz courses before, Caledonia being our favorite but I think this one may take the cake. A very unique and quirky setup that made you think about every shot, greens were in awesome shape for the end of March and not to mention 2 days after a lot of rain. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to enjoy their round and truly experience a 'different' side of golf.

I was looking forward to once again playing this course since it was saved, restored and re-opened by a new investment group. I was not disappointed! Despite the Bermuda fairways and rough still being dormant, the turf was healthy and the greens were in magnificent condition. Sure it is challenging and quite different than most American parkland courses, but it is suppose to be. This is a Mike Strantz gem that lives up to its irish role models, Royal County Down and Ballybunion.

The management provides you with a very helpful guide to how to play each hole and if you follow that strategy, and don't get enticed to take the hero route each time it is presented, you can shoot a good score. But this course is about much more than shooting a number, it is so unique and interesting that you just want to enjoy the journey.

Got afternoon Friday for $55. We are 15 handicaps and white tees are an appropriate distance that keeps course difficult but not demoralizing. Very interesting layout, unlike any course I have ever played. Lots of blind shots to green. Staff is great and there is a free app with flyovers and a one-page tip sheet which probably saved a couple strokes. 10 minutes off the highway and top notch course. Can’t wait to come back in the Summer.

This was my 6th time playing Royal New Kent (4th since it re-opened last year). It seems to just keep getting better and better!

The greens weren't rolling quite as fast and smooth as on my previous outings but that's to be expected this time of year and can help with putting since a lot of the greens have some slope to them. The conditions overall were excellent for March and the sand in the bunkers has compacted a good bit since they were redone a year ago, also good news.

The layout is may favorite in all of Virginia and never gets old. So many lies, angles, lines, and shapes to behold, it's truly incredible.

The staff continues to be great overall (if I'm nitpicking the bartender/grill server could be a bit friendlier) and I look forward to coming back again and again because this place is a great value!

This is a course you will remember! It’s unlike so many others I’ve played over the years. There are hills and valleys everywhere! Bunkers galore! It is daunting and both my friend and I shot well above or normal scores at lessor courses, but that’s ok—-we love a challenge and this place will test your game. The greens were perfect condition and rolled fast! The undulations in the greens made your approach shots very important and if you were in the wrong position, it could cost you! We can’t wait to play it again when everything greens up as Spring arrives!!

If you think you’re going to just stroll up to Royal New Kent and shoot your career best round....I’m thinking it’s probably not going to happen. The course has blind shots, uneven terrain, tons of sand traps and greens that have unbelievable hills/mounds on them. I loved every minute of the challenge and I know the course beat me today (of course the wind blowing pretty hard didn’t help) and I look forward to playing Royal New Kent again in the summer time. If you think you’re a player and you want a solid challenge, go play Royal New Kent.....it can be a humbling experience.

Course was in great condition. Really fun and extremely challenging layout. I will come back and play again but when I’m better. I’m a 29 handicap and had a rough day playing but all due to fault of my own. If you are a consistent player this course will be challenging but lots of fun. Bar has some great views of the course

A good buddy of mine played the week before I played. He was so excited we drove 2 hours to play this beauty for his second time and my first. It's gorgeous, challenging, unique and worth the drive. Excellent staff/customer service. Stopped at the clubhouse for some food on the turn and it did not disappoint. Amazing food and golf for a more than reasonable price. We are already planning our next visit!

This is a must try, great lay out of the course, very challenging and very well maintained. The information received on how to play the holes is really necessary if you play this course for the first time.

Staff was very nice, we had to wait before we could play because of frost but this gave us time to study the course and drink the coffee offered.

The course is one of the expensive ones in the area but it was absolutely worth the money.

Although this course is somewhat challenging, it is one of the most beautiful I've ever played! By far the best course in the area.

Outstanding course, great conditions, very unique layout but to hard for the average player. I am roughly a 5-9 handicap and found my round to be more of an experience than a round of golf. There are a number of blind shots and you must always be below the hole on the greens. And you must have solid, well placed shots to score pars. A number of holes are reachable below par but those opportunities come with a ton of risk. Play here for an experience but don't stress the doubles!

We really enjoyed our time at Royal New Kent. The staff is so welcoming. The facility is beautiful, clean, and friendly. It was a terrific time for everyone. Thank you Chris and RNK staff.

Amazing how nice is course was considering what time of year it is!

I've play RNK 5-6 times and each time I love it more. It is challenging, scenic, incredibly fun, and the greens are fantastic. The staff is very friendly. Some of the nicest starters I've ever spoken to. I played RNK on January 10th 2020 and was blown away at the condition of the greens and the overall shape of the course. We played the black tees, 145 slope, and it really is that tough but for whatever reason I find it impossible to get down on myself and sulk around because good shots are rewarded and each hole pushes you mentally and physically. I shot a 90 from the gold tees, 149 slope, ONCE. I felt like I shot a 72. It is my favorite course in the Richmond, VA area and if I could, I would play it every week.

The staff is wonderful and the greens are terrific. The course layout is great, it looks like the course was just built. If you are a good player this is the place for you.

Challenging course with some fun high risk high reward opportunities.

This is a very fun links style course. The day we played was cold and windy which really made this challenging course even more challenging. The greens were true and fast.
