Golden Hills Golf Club
About
Golden Hills Golf Club (formerly known as Arizona Golf Resort) is home to a golf school and a challenging 18-hole course. The golf course is known for its difficult and scenic par-3 holes. It is has a traditional layout that features large, subtly sloped greens that are guarded by bunkers. Stately cottonwood and eucalyptus trees line the generous fairways. Lakes form water hazards that come into play on five holes and there is also native rough throughout the course. With four sets of tee boxes, the course offers a suitable challenge for players of all skill levels. In addition to the course and the school, the Golden Hills Golf Club has a putting green and chipping area as well.

Course conditions
Been playing at AGR for a few years . The water situation on some of the holes has not improved, and is particularly annoying in the colder weather.
Arizona Golf Resort
Great course condition. Pace of play to be expected finished little over 4 hours. Friendly staff. Would play again.
We played 9 holes at 3 pm for $20. Can’t beat the price on a pretty nice course
Great experience.
The staff is always great. Friendly, attentive and provide great service. Course is always busy and was in great shape. We will be back for sure.
No show
My second golfer woke up sick. I couldn’t even contact golf now for a refund and when read the FAQ’s there was no way I could get one anyway. This will stop me from using golf now in the future.
Good condition
Had to wait until frost but went fast and easily golf 4.5 hrs.
More dirt than grass
Basic golf. On top of all of the washed out grass and dirt, there was a lot of standing water on the course. Puddles were so big and deep our group lost several balls because they landed in big puddles on the edge of the fairway.
Most holes are lined with houses which makes the course play very tight.
I would not recommend or play here again.
Mesa area golf course New owners
Many improvements have begun and the greens are the best in years......That said..Prior ownership did NOTHING to improve the tee boxes which have severely deteriorated since the opening IN THE 50's........AS a result tee balls are a real crap shoot as maintaining balance is truly a nightmare..>PLEASE in the off season rectify this issue......
Budget course with a challenge.
So first time ever playing here and it was after we had just got a lot of rain. I’ve also worked at a golf course as a greens keeper and my father who golfed with me still does, so I’ll try to be as fair as possible. My first impressions were it can be a little confusing when you get there as to where to head, the club house is set on the back corner of the main building, we figured it out but not set up like most courses we play. The staff is super friendly and got us set up on our carts. From there we went to the driving range which is very small, you can’t use a driver or 3 wood for the fact that you aren’t supposed to hit shots more then 240-250.
Seems to me with the money they’re making that a net could be set up at the end of the range. Come to think of it the range needs nets down both sides of the range. That’s a huge pet peeve of mine and most people I know that play when there is a range running right next to holes you gotta play. You hit your ball and gotta sort through a ton of range balls on a fairway to find your ball. There also isn’t a proper chipping or putting green, another downfall right off the bat. When I go to play a round I quite honestly care more about doing some chipping and putting as it slows me down and gets my swing in a better groove.
Now on to the course, we got to the first tee box and they’re checking your receipts as if we snuck one of their carts out here to play somehow, and you gotta sign out your cart like I’m checking out a book at the library or something. I mean are people just driving carts home or something?? I understand people are idiots and damage carts so maybe it’s for that but if you’re not keeping someone’s card on file or a copy of their DL then what’s the point other then slowing play.
We luckily tee’d off on time but quickly caught up to the group in front of us, there wasn’t a marshall to be found to push pace of play, not to mention they had us on cart path only, not even a 90* rule. This slowed pace of play to a painful level.
Now to the course conditions, I gotta be honest they were pretty poor. We play a pretty good amount and a lot of courses we play for way less money are maintained 100 times nicer. I never understand these courses that want to over-seed just small areas of play and then just let everything else go south. I get the cost of grass seed, believe me I’ve done my fair share of over seeding, but this is supposed to be a “resort”. It just comes off as cheap, and the course looks like a goat farm. There was debris everywhere, which would never fly at most courses, greens were mediocre at best. Some were ok, most were choppy and spotty.
Now to the positives, course layout is pretty nice, and is pretty challenging. Lots of deep bunkers and in spots that make you contemplate your shot or you can end up in some bad positions real quick. Most of the fairways are pretty open and forgiving if you have a bad shot. Decent amount of water holes, and decent tee box placements, although whoever sets up the markers may have never played golf because they were in some of the most awkward places. All in all it’s not a bad course, but for the money, I can play tons of executive courses in retirement communities that are far better maintained. I would play here again but it would have to be a good deal, and this place should definitely remove “resort” out of the name, there’s not a thing about this place that screams golf resort!!
Very helpful and pleasant cart personnel and friendly starter. Pace of play was good. Greens are in good shape and fairways are good. Noticed an improvement in them since we golfed there two weeks ago. We would golf there again.
Really nice Staff
Interaction with the staff was great. Golf course not so much. Greens dry inconsistent and fast...
Fairways were mostly good. Desert areas were mostly weeks and rocks
Driving range was nice...mats only!! Not so nice!
The lay out was bizarre but fit the location and terrain! Glad I didn't walk!
Front 9 pace of play was excellent, moved right along with little or now back up. Back 9, after two holes there was a back up of 3 going on to 4 groups! In all fairness, the ranger did manage to move the offending 4 some along, but every hole after that was a several minute wait.
The bar and restraint CLOSED when we finished the round....what's with that?
It was a long drive for a golf outing that wasn't what we expected.
Don’t trust anything, not even worth 2 stars
Course should be fined for all the 4+ reviews that must be fake. Showed up, staff didn’t check me in for 10 minutes since phone was priority over checking in paying players. Then round took 5+ hours with the worst golfers in front of us, plus no grass on the holes, just dirt. Please double think before booking here over Greenfield Lakes or Western Skies. You have been warned, it’s ROUGH and only getting worse
