The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

Course was good but some thing need to change

The course was good, hav some dead grass in spots but it is summer. I am dropping the reviews because it hottest days of the year and need to change the water jugs thru out the day there was a tournament earlier but still no reason to refill the jugs. That what the carts boys need to do… only got to refill my water at the turn told the guy in pro shop and all he said was sorry it done by maintenance staff

It's summertime in PHX, so can't expect too much with regard to course conditions. The greens were too fuzzy as they had been punched about a week ago, but I enjoyed the course still. Played as a single and played two balls, didn't see another golfer until 18. They had plenty of water stations which was nice. I would say the course has some deferred maintenance that needs to be completed, but i would go back for sure.

Won't be back, no water in cooler or beverage cart on a hot day. Also, they had just punched but it was not mentioned on the website or when booking.

Summer conditions: greens a little slow and patchy. Fairways patchy. Rough in weird places bunkers were okay. It’s a good track and I play it often just don’t show up there expecting great conditions

Horrible place of play

7:30 t time , hot day, however as per the course Ranger several group of members playing slowly, asked if he advised them to pick up the pace of play with the back up, no response. t one point 4 groups on the 10th tee, 4:40 minutes to play 18 with a 7:30 time unacceptable. Will not be playing here anytime soon. So disappointed, it is a great track.

Slow

Hate to leave bad reviews, but the pace here was terrible today. Got out at 8am made the turn in over 2 hours and 45 minutes. With it being over 110 out, they need to speed this place up. Left after 9 and feel really cheated and disappointed.

Amazing summer course

Don’t get out to play often anymore, but when I do I always try to play this course. Great layout, awesome scenery, always in great shape during summer.

Slowwwwww

It took our group 3 hours to complete the front nine. That’s completely ridiculous any time of the year but for a summer round when it’s getting to 110 out it’s unacceptable. Our group called it quits after it took us 25 minutes to complete the 10th hole and we came up to two groups on the 11th tee. We called the front and they said there was nothing they could do and that their marshal went home (it was just about noon) so they couldn’t go enforce pace of play.

The groups ahead said there was a group in front of them spending more time drinking than playing which was the cause of the back up. If that’s the case I still see it as the responsibility of the golf course to ensure that they’re maintaining pace, the “nothing we can do” response was infuriating.

This looks like it could be a really fun course, but I will not be back.

Decent but gone down hill

The course is a nice design with a nice balance of challenge and forgiveness. Unfortunately, the condition has slipped since I first played it 5 or 6 years ago.

Tee boxes are fine, fairways are ok but the greens are in great shape. Greens complexes are well designed and can be tricky. They roll fantastic!

What needs work? Fairways are sparse for this time of year. Everything past the first cut has been neglected. The carts are dated and the oaths need a complete overhaul. Lots of rough transitions from the path to grass. It would be easy to put up some temporary fence (ropes) to keep traffic from wearing these areas out. On top of that, they are eroded from runoff.

Completely playable and fun. They just need to spend a little money and time getting things in better shape.

Buyer beware………

I’d like to comment on an issue with Red Mountain that is very common . Semi private golf courses must accept outside play to make their bottom line work. I travel a lot and book as single player 95% of the time. As such, I’m tolerated at best. Arriving at Red Mountain, I checked in , purchased range balls and headed to range (30 minutes ahead of my 730 tee time).! The starter informed me I needed to tee off right then or wait until after 8am. He said that the two members scheduled to play with me only like to play as twosome. I told him I had a time and range balls purchased in good faith and he would be back from range for my assigned time. Unfortunately, because you’re not a member, you often get similar treatment, My hope is that someone from GolfNow reads this post and attempts to address this issue.

18% Service Charge (not tip)

The course played tough, which was expected. It was a 5 hour round, no control over that. Then we proceeded to the restaurant for beers and lunch, only to get the check and find an 18% service charge. This wasn’t and isn’t considered part of the tip. There were four of us. When asked, they said it’s standard and is also used for banquets and weddings, which I understand. So after that charge, tip, and tax, you pay an additional 45%. No go for me, avoid it.
