The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

Always a nice challenge!

Beautiful course nestled into a quiet sbdv near red mountain in Mesa. Terrain changes and the back nine presents some fun challenges. Don't miss playing here. It's a great value and great views towards the west from above the east valley..

A great challenge!

If you want to play a course that offers a “little” challenge, look no further. I obviously am using that term lightly. Don’t let the total yardages fool you, this course will eat you up if you break focus even for a second. I’m pretty sure there are no flat lies anywhere. Even a perfect drive will offer a challenge. There were only a few times I ended up in the mayor’s office after a drive, only to hit into a severely guarded green structure and scramble for a par. I had only 9 putts through 7 holes if that’s any indication. It’s those shots that keep you coming back for more, though. Like an addiction. The challenge never lets up the whole round. If you play even remotely well, you can safely assume you would have crushed a lesser course of the same distance. The price to play was very expensive in my opinion and I would definitely play there more if it were cheaper. For anyone thinking about playing it, I would say go for it! At least play it once to see why Pete Dye obviously dislikes golfers.

At the end of our round, we ducked into the restaurant for lunch. Upon entering, we were greeted by the stench of rotten eggs. Almost like an open sewer. We ordered some burgers and beers. The waitress was kind and took great care of us. The food was mediocre at best. Our burgers were overcooked and tough. They didn’t have a lot of flavor either. We’ll skip the restaurant going forward. I suggest you do, too.

Pretty good value for the price

The people working there are very pleasant and helpful. The course itself is set up well and in very good shape. The reason there weren’t more stars is because it’s still not inexpensive and the carts are very old, no distance navigation or scorekeeping on the carts, and probably worst of all in the easiest fix is on the scorecards. You cannot even turn them over and see what the hole looks like if you haven’t played there before. That would be the biggest the complaint. It’s really not user-friendly for those who have not played the course at least several times.

Great course, great practice areas, one minor issue

Overall a terrific day playing golf at RMRCC including being paired with a member who was able and willing to give me insights into how to stay out of trouble. My only negative and it is a criticism of the Pete Dye design is that hole 17 is virtually unplayable with a pin at the front edge of the green. Other than that the greens are in great shape if a touch slower than expected and the fairways were in perfect shape. Stay out of the bunkers they are brutally tough to get out of sometimes. Other than that a real experience that I would recommend to any golfer at any level.

Must play in Mesa

The course was in excellent shape. Had the pleasure of playing with a member who is 84 years young. He led us along and we got through in 3:30 hours. Pete Dye character along the way!! Can’t wait to come back to Mesa and play it again!!

Great condition

Course is very challenging with some really interesting holes. Course was in excellent shape. They could use a ranger out as group in front of us was pretty slow and a local decided to jump in an join our 3 some on about the 14th hole. Otherwise a very enjoyable day.

Bring your approach and short game

This Pete Dye designed golf course was in excellent condition when we played. The visuals of the course and the surrounding areas are top rate.

We played the combination tees at about 6000 yards so it is not long and the fairways are generous. The rough is sticky and you pay for missing the fairway.

Here it is all about approach shots and short game/putting. There are almost no flat spots on the greens and many are two and three tiers. If you aren't on the one where the pin is you are in trouble. The greens are well protected with bunkering and other obstacles.

This is a great golf course but you need to be a skilled player to score here. It will test you.

Great Pete Dye Design

Red Mountain Ranch was a delight with many strikingly great examples of Pete Dye Design. The views were amazing and course condition was as expected for a high caliber course. Would definitely play again.
