Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
About
The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

nice \!! Photo submitted by Chris8540018 on 11/03/2012
I loved this course, from the course conditions to the course layout it was a fun and different. Definitely a harder course to play. Especially from like 80-50 yard in. I would totally go back and play again.
Desert Botanical Beauty
First, the course is amazing and difficult. Lots of hills, sand and water. Super well maintained. Second, you dealt like you were in a desert oasis. Just about every kind of desert plant adorned the course. We even ran into a family of Javelinas. There was about 20 of them just off the green. When we drove our cart by them they all scattered without incident. It was an amazing round of golf.
Undulation
This golf course was one of the most unique courses I played in the valley area. It was challenging in some ways, but for forgiving in others, the green undulation and the pot bunkers that surround the greens make this course extremely rewarding when you hit great shots, vice versa if you miss just a little bit off the green you might be in a 10 foot tiny pot bunker. It’s just an amazing design if the greens were rolling anymore than what they were, the course would’ve been very hard. Super fair price, super fair greens really great staff, fun day.!!!
Good design, course dry
The course design is good but it was drying out the day we played. Parts of the fairways were dry and the greens were somewhat dry in areas. Apparently, the maintenance staff has not responded to the streak of hot weather in March.
Great Value
Well groomed, friendly Staff and challenging course. Great value for price. High end course.
Red Mountain Golf
Really enjoyed playing Red Mountain Golf. I love the layout, the ups and downs of the course.
Top-Notch Experience
Course is in A- shape. Excellent greens and bunkers. Almost every hole is a challenge.
pace of play
They need to get the ranger out on course, we could barely finish before dark. Waited on every tee box for the group ahead of us.
I really like this course
I'm in AZ 5 months out of the year and I'll play this course at least twice while down here. I've never been disappointed.
Always a nice challenge!
Beautiful course nestled into a quiet sbdv near red mountain in Mesa. Terrain changes and the back nine presents some fun challenges. Don't miss playing here. It's a great value and great views towards the west from above the east valley..
A great challenge!
If you want to play a course that offers a “little” challenge, look no further. I obviously am using that term lightly. Don’t let the total yardages fool you, this course will eat you up if you break focus even for a second. I’m pretty sure there are no flat lies anywhere. Even a perfect drive will offer a challenge. There were only a few times I ended up in the mayor’s office after a drive, only to hit into a severely guarded green structure and scramble for a par. I had only 9 putts through 7 holes if that’s any indication. It’s those shots that keep you coming back for more, though. Like an addiction. The challenge never lets up the whole round. If you play even remotely well, you can safely assume you would have crushed a lesser course of the same distance. The price to play was very expensive in my opinion and I would definitely play there more if it were cheaper. For anyone thinking about playing it, I would say go for it! At least play it once to see why Pete Dye obviously dislikes golfers.
At the end of our round, we ducked into the restaurant for lunch. Upon entering, we were greeted by the stench of rotten eggs. Almost like an open sewer. We ordered some burgers and beers. The waitress was kind and took great care of us. The food was mediocre at best. Our burgers were overcooked and tough. They didn’t have a lot of flavor either. We’ll skip the restaurant going forward. I suggest you do, too.
Pretty good value for the price
The people working there are very pleasant and helpful. The course itself is set up well and in very good shape. The reason there weren’t more stars is because it’s still not inexpensive and the carts are very old, no distance navigation or scorekeeping on the carts, and probably worst of all in the easiest fix is on the scorecards. You cannot even turn them over and see what the hole looks like if you haven’t played there before. That would be the biggest the complaint. It’s really not user-friendly for those who have not played the course at least several times.
Great course, great practice areas, one minor issue
Overall a terrific day playing golf at RMRCC including being paired with a member who was able and willing to give me insights into how to stay out of trouble. My only negative and it is a criticism of the Pete Dye design is that hole 17 is virtually unplayable with a pin at the front edge of the green. Other than that the greens are in great shape if a touch slower than expected and the fairways were in perfect shape. Stay out of the bunkers they are brutally tough to get out of sometimes. Other than that a real experience that I would recommend to any golfer at any level.
Must play in Mesa
The course was in excellent shape. Had the pleasure of playing with a member who is 84 years young. He led us along and we got through in 3:30 hours. Pete Dye character along the way!! Can’t wait to come back to Mesa and play it again!!
