The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

A Big Mistake

What course allows a 5 some to play on a busy Friday afternoon? Red Mountain is clearly WELL past its prime. The owners have invested next to nothing on this course and it shows.

DO NOT play here, there are many alternatives in the Phoenix area.

This was definitely a wow!! The course was in superb condition, and I tip my hat to the new superintendant.

You must get to Red Mountain for a round.

Course in good condition

Course was in very good condition. Challenging as usual on many holes but fun to play. Pace was quite slow , no ranger to be found anywhere as the place closes up by 4:30 or so....we managed to finish but just barely with a 2:17 tee time.

Beautiful and Challenging Course

As reflected in the high slope ratings (135 for Blue tees), the course is difficult but fair. Greens are all raised with protection from bunkers. Surfaces on greens were smooth but they did not have many flat areas. Fairways were wavy with mounds but driving landing areas were fair.

Wonderful course!

My husband and I were staying in Scottsdale for spring training. We always golf on off days when our Giants aren’t playing. We picked this course at random and are very glad we golfed there.

It’s a wonderful course with a compact layout and lots of interesting holes. It has a grass driving range and a large chipping green, as well as a putting green. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We’ll definitely golf here again next time we’re in town.

Neat Course

I was scheduled for an 8:01 tee time but since I was playing solo they let me off about 20 min early. I did have to rent clubs being from Ohio and the rentals for a country club left something to be desired, but I still figured them out pretty quickly. Reason for this comment is with it being a tight, shorter course (from the blues) short irons and wedges were critical. I really enjoyed the layout and the greens challenged you to execute a shot.

Decent course, played for the first time. Large delay due to the shop not opening on time in the morning. Bunkers weren't usable.

Out of shape

Very friendly staff but potentially beautiful course was in poor condition. Went off in the afternoon and front side pace was very slow, it was hard to get into a flow. Challenging course had the potential to be great but needs a lot of work. Won’t be back

Pure Evil

Pete Dye created this one. You have to hit is straight, but don't need to be long if you play an appropriate tee box. Just when you think your round is going ok you come to the 17th green that sits like a table top you are trying to drop a ball onto. The front pin location is impossible.

The day we played was just after a heavy rain. We were forced to play Cart Path Only and low areas had standing water. This made for a long day. The group in front of us made it even longer, playing 4:45 for the round.

It is hard to recomment a course that will charge you $130+ and frustrate the heck out of you. I'm sure there are those who enjoy this type of torture.

Rudeness

The staff was beyond rude about pace of play, we had no one behind us waiting and the staff STILL stopped us multiple times to tell us to hurry up for ZERO reason. What a shame to have such poor staff on such a nice course. Will never be going back to this place
