Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
About
The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

Great back 9
First time playing and the fairways and greens were in good condition. The first 9 was so so, but the back 9 was definitely worth the green fees. I would play it again and I recommend it as well.
Course was fun until the end
I took 2 other golfers with me to play Red Mountain for their first time. We had a great time with Neil we got to the 17th hole when 8-10 young men, obviously drinking and yelling, all came out of a residence and stood on the 17th green playing some kind of putting game, beer cans on the ground, and played there for 10-15 minutes then headed to hole 18. We finished 17 then teed off on 18. The group of men all stood on the 18th green putting dozens of times each, yelling and did not care about us as we exited and waited for them to leave the green. After 10-15 minutes we picked up our shots and left the course without finishing our game as they all continued to stand on the 18th green and outt numerous times. Needless to say this ruined our games and we will not be going back to that course in the future. We went to the clubhouse at 5:10 pm to discuss this with the manager but it was locked up. Very disappointed and won’t be back at Red Mountain.
Ignore any negative reviews,
This course far exceeded my expectations! After reading several of the reviews, I was surprised to find that anyone would complain about conditions, since the course was in perfect condition from tee to green and everything in between. It's a challenging course, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for high handicappers, but mid to low handicappers will find this fun but challenging. I highly recommend using a GPS app because a lack of course knowledge probably cost me four strokes. I've played a huge number of courses throughout Arizona, and would probably rank this in my top 15.
Fun course, but pin placements can make putting difficult
This was my first time playing the Red Mountain Ranch course. I recommend playing this course more than once because of the Pete Dye design elements - mounding and multiple green levels and slopes. My round was under 4 hours, which was great. The challenges of this course layout make this course fun for any level golfer.
Not Worth Golf Now Price
Staff nice, accommodations poor. Played with a nice older couple, we shot in the 80's. OK if you stay in the narrow fairways and greens were nice, hard/fast. Outside these areas it was a goat ranch. Rocks in traps and rough was rocky. More than a few feet around the greens there was no grass or just weeds, for many holes, which were poorly maintained. Tee boxes were a divot box.
You Have To Be Kidding Me.....Read Before You Book
It was my birthday with cold and windy weather.
I wore blue jeans because I thought they would be warmer. The course wouldn't allow blue jeans. That was their biggest concern. You have to be kidding me, So we wasted time trying to figure out if our group had other clothes so could play. I ended up wearing wind pants the whole day and sweating when it warmed up.
The people running the course are worried about the wrong things in terms of making customers want to come back. Now after wasting time I dont have much time to warm up. So I drive to the range to quickly warm up. Wait. Balls not included and they are back at the clubhouse. There goes warm up. Thanks for letting me know.
This is THE WORST marked course in my over 40 years playing golf. You know three things: yardage, 150 yard stick and pin. That is it. Hit what you think is a great drive only to find out there is a trap over the hill. There are no pictures of the holes anywhere on the card or on the course. What up with that? Wait they are worried about you wearing jeans and not about making the round enjoyable by letting you know how the hole plays.
There are tons of sand(less) traps. Which of course you don't know where they are because nothing is marked. Maybe spend time putting sand in your bunkers.
The fairways were marginal at best. In terms of the greens. I must have hit 10 wedges into unreceptive greens. Nothing held....and many would run off into the the sand(less) traps. But hey I wasn't wearing jeans,
I can also see why it was so important to not wear jeans. We saw a total of 4 people while we were on the course. We saw the twosome on the sixth hole...that our threesome caught. We also saw a single that we let play through on the 7th hole. Then waited on them the rest of the day. No ranger was seen the whole day, I am sure he was busy in the parking lot making sure no one came onto the course with jeans.
Oh we also saw the beverage cart on holes 2 and 7 and never again, My guess is she was sent home because she had sweat pants on and having proper golf attire seems pretty important for a course that is average at best.
There are much better options that I will give my money to in the future that appreciate the fact that I am the customer and it is their job to try to make it enjoyable. Least friendly course I played all week to add to the fact that it was horribly marked and average at best.
Recommend you try one of the 100 other options in Phoenix area.
Very Nice course, but....
Starter was the Best! Conditions were very good.
$170 round was not worth it. Ill never again play for that price. It was my choice. I chose to play, but never again.
MAC
Played this course a few times now . Tough greens but a good test of your whole game . I think there was five people playing in front of us . And not great golfers . Hence the slow play.
