Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
About
The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

You Have To Be Kidding Me.....Read Before You Book
It was my birthday with cold and windy weather.
I wore blue jeans because I thought they would be warmer. The course wouldn't allow blue jeans. That was their biggest concern. You have to be kidding me, So we wasted time trying to figure out if our group had other clothes so could play. I ended up wearing wind pants the whole day and sweating when it warmed up.
The people running the course are worried about the wrong things in terms of making customers want to come back. Now after wasting time I dont have much time to warm up. So I drive to the range to quickly warm up. Wait. Balls not included and they are back at the clubhouse. There goes warm up. Thanks for letting me know.
This is THE WORST marked course in my over 40 years playing golf. You know three things: yardage, 150 yard stick and pin. That is it. Hit what you think is a great drive only to find out there is a trap over the hill. There are no pictures of the holes anywhere on the card or on the course. What up with that? Wait they are worried about you wearing jeans and not about making the round enjoyable by letting you know how the hole plays.
There are tons of sand(less) traps. Which of course you don't know where they are because nothing is marked. Maybe spend time putting sand in your bunkers.
The fairways were marginal at best. In terms of the greens. I must have hit 10 wedges into unreceptive greens. Nothing held....and many would run off into the the sand(less) traps. But hey I wasn't wearing jeans,
I can also see why it was so important to not wear jeans. We saw a total of 4 people while we were on the course. We saw the twosome on the sixth hole...that our threesome caught. We also saw a single that we let play through on the 7th hole. Then waited on them the rest of the day. No ranger was seen the whole day, I am sure he was busy in the parking lot making sure no one came onto the course with jeans.
Oh we also saw the beverage cart on holes 2 and 7 and never again, My guess is she was sent home because she had sweat pants on and having proper golf attire seems pretty important for a course that is average at best.
There are much better options that I will give my money to in the future that appreciate the fact that I am the customer and it is their job to try to make it enjoyable. Least friendly course I played all week to add to the fact that it was horribly marked and average at best.
Recommend you try one of the 100 other options in Phoenix area.
Very Nice course, but....
Starter was the Best! Conditions were very good.
$170 round was not worth it. Ill never again play for that price. It was my choice. I chose to play, but never again.
MAC
Played this course a few times now . Tough greens but a good test of your whole game . I think there was five people playing in front of us . And not great golfers . Hence the slow play.
Course layout good conditions questionable
Greens top dressed with sand and not cleaned up. WHO top dresses greens on a Friday and not clean them but still charge 135 to play. I really don’t want excuse as I’ve been a superintendent for 40 years and would never expect a customer to play on my greens not clean if charging full price.
Pete Dye layout in need of some TLC
Very friendly staff, decent course layout, although is just doesn't seem playable for the general public that can't hit the ball in the air. Pretty small greens, too. But the worst thing about the course is the condition. It is January 2023 and it is just not in good shape. It certainly appears that the maintenance has fallen down, or simply not up to the standards of a course charging over $100 per player. Some bunkers were unplayable; from some tees you can't really see where you're supposed to hit your tee shot. Greens were ok but a little slow compared to some other courses recently played. I won't play here again since I don't have any confidence they will put some maintenance $$ into it. Seemed like a lot of the players on Sunday were members, and maybe they've just become accepting of the conditions.
Nice course
Greens not great. Overseeding didn't fill in completely. Bunkers are not very good. Pete Dye course - not my favorite. Table top greens don't hold.
Pricey compared to some of the other courses near by. It has potential, being a Pet Dye design, but needs more detailed attention from the greens keepers and then it would be top tier.
Tough greens
Course in great shape, but some of the greens are still patchy which makes it difficult to score on a Pete Dye track.
Bunkers?
The bunkers on this course are a mess.
More like packed gravel pits than sand bunkers.
Don’t bring your new sand wedges.
