Superstition Springs Golf Club
About
The East Valley's Superstition Springs Golf Club offers one of Arizona's most testing layouts, measuring over 7,000 yards, with a slope rating of 130. Golf course architect Greg H. Nash designed the course and worked with the landscape already in place to provide the abundant mounding, wide bunkers and good-looking but tough-playing water features.
By the time he had finished with the Superstition Springs Golf Club, Nash had created a golf course that Golfweek called one of America's Best Golf Courses.
After - or before - a round of golf at the Superstition Springs Golf Club, hit up the restaurant for breakfast, lunch or drinks either inside or on the patio, which overlooks the golf course's signature hole, the ninth.

One of the worst courses I have seen in AZ
The course conditions were horrific. I expect the greens to be bumpy in July in AZ. But the rest of the course was horrible. Tees were not flat--uphill, sidehill. Some places had grass--likely where a sprinkler was placed--and it was so thick it was unplayable. The rest of the course had more dirt and weeds than grass. Very little sand in the bunkers (and that is being generous)
Water Please!
Golf Courses in the East Valley seem to be a contrast between the “haves” and the “have-nots”. And SSGC is definitely a “have-not” when it comes to course conditions. It seems they have too much grass and not enough water. Or they have several areas that are not working properly, as there are hoses and sprinkler heads in some of the fairways. Who knows, but for $70+ in July, I would expect more. Maybe that’s just “how it is” now. But it’s still a shame compared to what this course used to be 10-15 years ago…
Hi Sonoraman6, thank you for sharing your feedback on your experience at our course. We appreciate your insights on the course conditions and will pass this along to our maintenance team for review. We strive to provide a top-notch experience for our guests and will use your feedback to make improvements. Please know our management team and beyond is monitoring our course conditions regularly and we are in process of ensuring our course can meet the $70 expectation in July. Our 191 acres of turn require regulatory watering and intention of which we believe we will improve immedietly. Thanks for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back in the near future.
Disappointed!
I wanted to take my son to one of the nicer courses in our area because the rates are low during the summer. We were both disappointed on how bad the condition of the course was. The 14th hole was closed, many of the holes were roped off so you couldn’t drive to your ball, the rough was so long in areas that you could be right next to your ball and never find it, and they lakes were dry. I’ve played plenty of courses in the summer that are still maintained, but it seemed like they just let this one go. Hopefully they can correct this. It has always been one of the nicer courses in this area.
Hi u314165158048, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about your recent experience at the course. We appreciate your insights and will be sure to address these concerns with our team to ensure a better experience for all our patrons. Please know our agronomy team is working around the clock to monitor conditions and ensure we are matching the intention of the golfer. As a father myself I understand the desire to get out and play a course this summer with your son and have expectations to grow him as a golfer and create memories. Please email me personally at abeaverson@arcisgolf.com as I would love to treat you and your son to another round in the future when our conditions match our intention. I look forward to hearing from you!
Decent shape for the time of year
What staff they have are good, the pro shop, cart guys and beverage cart. They don’t have a starter or marshals so you can wind up with a foursome followed by a twosome, followed by a single, followed by another twosome. It’s probably the best they can do given the time of year and quantity of golfers. I had fun as the single and enjoyed the round. Many bunkers were awful and the best were so so. Like many other courses around the valley.
Hi 98azelda, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your round overall and had a good experience with our staff. We appreciate your comments about the pace of play and course conditions, and we will take them into consideration for future improvements.
Room for improvement.
Played on june 18, 2024. Course conditions were pretty rough, pace of play was slow (5 hr round). Wasn't worth the price premium paid for Father's, but decent value at a lower price, around $40-45.
Hi Randy, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that your experience was not exceptional. We appreciate your input on course conditions and pace of play and will apply efforts to improve these areas immediately. We hope you'll give us another chance in the future.
Slow
It was very slow, and horribly backed up! No Marshall was present to push the pace
Hello, and thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the slow service and lack of Marshal presence. Your comments are valuable to us and will be shared with our team for improvement. We hope to better serve you in the future. Please know a phone call to the pro shop can always have the Player Assistant/Marshal sent to your area of the course right away.
Transition to summer grass.
They were transitioning over to the summer grass, so conditions were not great.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your insight into our transition to summer grass conditions. We are constantly working to elevate bermudagrass conditions and hope you visit us for fantastic summer grass conditions in the next few weeks!
not you everyday course
If you like challenges, then this course is made for you. Elevations, dog legs, fairway traps and natural hazards are built into this course. While I completed the round in less than three hours, expect to lose a ball or two or three but old adage of hitting the ball straight was written for Superstition Springs. Throughly enjoyable!!
Hello! Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent experience with us. We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the layout and experience. We hope to see you again soon!
Is this course going out of business?
I have played this course five or six times over the last 18 months and was shocked to see the condition it was in. The rough was basically dirt, the fairways were mostly burnt out as if they haven’t been watered, the tee boxes were chewed up and the greens had dead spots everywhere. This used to be one of my favorite courses in the valley but at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were going out of business. Every lake except for one was completely dry and it looks terrible. The staff was friendly, they had a beverage cart running, and a grill at the turn, which was all great, but unless the course conditions improve drastically, I will not be returning.
Been awhile
Have not been to this course for quite sometime. Greens were in great shape. Some of the fairways had no grass in areas. Ponds need some work too much Duck weed and smelled terrible. In areas you had to stay on the cart path and walk to your ball because they were trying to get the grass to grow. Had a good time anyway.
Hi rlk767, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the greens. We appreciate your patience as we work on enhancing summer transition conditions. We hope to see you back soon for another round of golf.
Wouldn’t recommend
Fun and challenging layout. Smelled like sewer on every hole and fairways and rough were in bad shape. Greens rolled nice. Wouldn’t recommend even at the 40$ afternoon price. I’m sure it was nice in its day but it’s been obviously neglected.
Hi Robert, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience. Our grounds team continues to elevate transition conditions as we transition from winter ryegrass to summer bermudagrass. We hope you return to a more enjoyable experience!
