The East Valley's Superstition Springs Golf Club offers one of Arizona's most testing layouts, measuring over 7,000 yards, with a slope rating of 130. Golf course architect Greg H. Nash designed the course and worked with the landscape already in place to provide the abundant mounding, wide bunkers and good-looking but tough-playing water features.

By the time he had finished with the Superstition Springs Golf Club, Nash had created a golf course that Golfweek called one of America's Best Golf Courses.

After - or before - a round of golf at the Superstition Springs Golf Club, hit up the restaurant for breakfast, lunch or drinks either inside or on the patio, which overlooks the golf course's signature hole, the ninth.

Not worth the money!

Absolutely not worth the $110/person we paid. The sand traps were dirt…not sand. There were no ladies tee boxes. Women have to play for the senior tees. The course has several very short par 4’s that require a short iron off the tee box because of the hazards located near the green. Unless you’re a very long hitter, you can’t try and drive the green. Overall….it’s a &50 course at best.

Too challenging

If you like sandtraps all over the place especially around the greens, so deep some places I had to crawl out, with very little sand to have a proper swing, this is for you. If you like lots of ponder fairways that tend to slope to the water, you'll like this one. We had to play through a dust storm with rain, palm tree fronds being blown off the trees & the hole #12 washroom facility locked up like Fort Knox with keys not working. The least you can do is tell people or put up a sign underneath the "use bathroom on hole 12" that it is closed & to use the bathroom at their main bldg. before continuing on to the back 9. Plus when we were done, the restaurant & pro shop were already closed. Our group was disappointed.

Very Nice Course

It is a very nice course with some tricky holes. It would be helpful to have a course layout with yardages if you have never played it before. The course was in good shape and the staff very friendly.

The great and not so great

Pro: Nice green open fairways/greens, friendly staff, very comfortable regular working man golf course, decent driving range, affordable and nice clubhouse..

Negatives: the majority of the water features are dry with some muddy pools left, many tee boxes present sidehill lies, the greens are very small dumbed down for economic watering is what the member told me.

With a few changes this course could add a star.

Nice course, challenging layout on back 9

Very nice course. Front very playable and had goid pace if play. Back 9 more challenging and pace of play slowed considerably with groups in front if us struggling. It would help if the scorecard showed the layout if the course. Quite a few hazards were not visible so having something to gauge/help with distances would definitely speed up play on back

Great challenging course

Love this course. Great value for the price. You guys really need to do something with your sand traps. Theuy really need attentuon. Between the water retention and the concrete nature of most traps. They have been and can be a great feature of this course.

Average Course...Too Expensive for What You Get

Notes for reviewer: I'm early 40's, handicap currently around a 10, and my coach is Alex Black here at Superstition Springs.

It was my first time playing here and Bill in the pro shop was very helpful in setting me up with a multi-course players card which will save me some money, though I got it primarily for The Raven discounts. Figured I should play the course since my coach is here. Overall I found the course to be very average in layout, challenge, and condition. Compared to other valley course for the money, this one appears to overwater the fairways and greens or have drainage issues, because there were wet spots and mud on many fairways with a mid-morning tee time. Greens are unusually slow and soft for a desert course, which made them tough to putt considering the practice green was faster than the actual greens. The course is also built in a wash I believe, as there was still remnants of the monsoon season from last summer. This was actually a big turn-off for me because nearly every hole wraps around this area with trash, debris, and mud everywhere, Again, this was from a monsoon 6 months ago! How is it not cleaned up yet, or at least the garbage removed from around all of the spill ways, water holes, and greenside.

I live nearby, and my coach is here, but I would not play this again for anywhere near the price they are charging considering the conditions. For the same amount I can play a host of courses with considerably better conditions nearby. It has potential, but it's not there yet and it doesn't appear to be a priority.

KRBruntz - depends on your handicap, what you're looking for in a course, budget and which side of the valley you are staying on. It would also be helpful to know time of year as rates change a lot once all of the snowbirds leave the area starting in April. I'll assume you mean this time of year, and want to stay under $200/round and you're staying central to Phoenix.

A few of the better "bang for your buck" courses I recommend are:

Longbow - nice desert track but only 20 mins from the airport, NO houses on the course which I prefer, and excellent conditions. You can play for under $125/ in peak season and less if you buy a pass.

The Raven - located south of the airport 10 mins, it's a decent track in-town with above average conditions for a city course, plenty of challenge if you want it, and you'll enjoy your round for under $125/peak season.

We-Ko-Pa - located near Fountain Hills, it's a bit further drive and the rates change dramatically peak vs card holder, but it's about as perfect a desert track with no houses that you can get. Again, watch the rates as you can be in the mid $200's or below $100 depending on day/month and if you're local/card holder or not.

Plenty of others depending where in the valley you stay, but you won't go wrong with the above courses

Good test for a low - mid handicapper

I like this course because it makes me think and keeps me humble. I know some who don’t like it because:: you go under a freeway a couple of times and there are 3 or 4 par 4s you really need to think out your tee shot (can’t use driver), many greens are hard to land because they are narrow or elevated or are somewhat upside down saucer shaped. They are economizing with less maintenance of traps and water hazards than they used to. But conditions are better than the local economy courses

Very Nice

I like a course that provides a variety of twists and turns, carries and angles. A very fun layout. Conditions were good. Greens were smooth but maybe just a little bit slow, depending on your preference. Fairways are watered just enough to be firm yet thick. Staff was friendly. Pace was acceptable, given how busy it was.

Returned to play

Course in good condition and greens smooth. Pace of play on back nine was slow having to wait at most tee boxes.!

Course raised price over what I paid last summer and not worth the raise. Our gas powered cart did not charge our phones. Switched to electric at turn and phone was charged.

Overall the greens were decent. The fairways were not consistent and the rough was total hard pan. The course has several bottlenecks where play slows to a standstill. For whatever reason several holes had pin cuts only a step or two from the green edge. Had breakfast in the restaurant, very good food.

Save your money

When you pay $90 for a round of golf, I expect to at least have ball washers and yardage markers besides just a 150 yard pole. Course is not worth what they are charging and the course marshals need to lighten up their approach.
