Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Good conditions
A resort course. Maintained well.
Google GPS shows it wrong.
Tees green and you can see fairways. From tips to forward a good selection to choose your yardage. If high capper, whites start requiring a long 100+ yd tee carry.
Fairways ok but if your tendency to slice/hook better carry extra balls. Washes are across 8 fairways. Summertime so expect longer grass. Sides have rolling mounds.
Greens aren't elevated; just slanted back to front, or off side. Only 1 side water. Some rolling mounds to greens.
No burn out. Very good shape. Staff attentive. Signage for most part good.
Great course!
Played early, had the entire course to ourselves. Amazing conditions and great layout!
Pleasantly surprised
Our foursome was a mixed group, included my son, the husband of my wife's friend that I have never played golf with, and a 4th golfer who joined us who was 2 days removed from getting married in Sedona. We decided to play from the white tees, although my son and I would normally play from a little longer set of tees. The experience was excellent. A very good challenge even from the shorter distance. The greens and tees were in perfect condition which is the most important areas to me. Great day.
Great condition
The course is in perfect condition. Even though it's summer every part of the course was great.
AZ summer golf
I played Wildfire on a late Saturday tee time. Check in and customer service was great as normal with a Marriott course.
Range balls included in the tee time and range was in decent shape.
Tee boxes and greens were in good condition and very consistent. The fairways were brown and hard. A few drives bounced so high they appeared to be hitting off of cart path. Many areas around the greens were having turf replaced and large chunks of grass were nearly unplayable.
I was surprised at the overall condition of Wildfire considering I have played here before in the summertime and it is usually kept in better condition than most golf courses in the area.
Palmer Pride
This is a resort course designed by Arnold Palmer. I will personally send Arnold a thank you note, the course is one of the best I have ever played and especially in Scottsdale. The ground staff had the course in perfect condition, the golf shop staff were professional and very helpful, and the cart attendants were especially professional and courteous. I WILL PLAY THIS COURSE AGAIN MANY TIMES. The tee system and course layout is really conducive to fast play. The greens were very receptive and the putting surfaces were a joy to putt on. Very true to the sight line.
The course has matured
We played the course several times during the initial years. Although, recognizable it was in nice shape. Grass in fairways was very mature. Possibly zoysia grass as the ball sat up very well. The greens had been re- surfaced within the last couple of weeks but they were still good. A little bumpy and slower than most of the greens in the area. Although, not a distraction or hindrance to our round. Some mosquitos present due to recent rains so bring your bug spray. I would really like to play it again soon.
Palmer course has nice layout
Greens punched and very shaggy making for lousy putting experience. Normally nice quick greens were very bumpy and slower than a glacier. Disappointed that we weren't notified before booking time to play that the greens were in such poor shape. Would have gone to another course, bad greens make for bad golf experience.
Pure Golf
Course is situated in an area where you are not plying between rows of houses most of the time. Front 9 fairways are wider giving you time to get into the round before the more targeted back nine. Bunkers were in great shape. Greens hand be punched so they were very slow and a little bumpy at times. Back nine greens seemed to be in a little better shape. They were very receptive though didn't have a ball stop any further than six inches from pitch mark. GPS on cart accurate.
Nice Palmer design
Played in summer shortly after aeration and, as expected, the greens were in bad shape. Even so an enjoyable round on an enjoyable layout.
First Class
Great staff, very nice course. Lots of interesting holes and excellent conditions. This is a first class golf complex. I think the Falso is a bit more challenging, and both seem somewhat overpriced but overall I really enjoyed the course and my day there. We played in about 3.5 hours at 6:30 in the morning.
Sponge
If you enjoy hitting tee shots with no roll and plugged lies this course is for you. Furry slow greens are what you like? This course is for you. The staff is great. Pro shop and outside the staff are professional. It's too bad the layout and conditions of the course are way under par. If you are visiting the Valley stay at the JW, but go okay one of the many other lay outs that are far better condition.
Palmer
I prefer this course over Faldo. Faldo is bunker overload with some tricked up holes.
Palmer is pretty flat with variety of holes.
Midsummer fairways are rough but greens were in decent shape pre aerification.
Good course not Great
Bag staff lazy only looking for tips - starter not accommodating did not fill comfortable with course staff - Pro Shop staff was great (love them) !
Palmer course opinion
for the time of year the course was in really good shape. greens were a little slow but that is to be expected this time of year. fairways were good and i loved the layout. very fun to play. i was paired with a member which was nice so i could get a better understanding of the course since i have never played on it before. i will definitely come back and play the Palmer course again and am looking forward to playing on the Faldo course. i would have played the Faldo course but the just punched the greens and green condition is critical.
Disappointing Fairways
Wildfire at Desert Ridge is a nice facility and property in North Scottsdale. The course fairways were very disappointing, however, the greens were plush and true. I would have been disappointed if I paid in season rate but since I played twilight in the summer, it was worth the money.
I played the Palmer course as I had played the Faldo a couple times prior. With all the competition and courses in Scottsdale, they will need to improve course conditions during season.
Best Price and Value...
Excellent golf course...greens were in very good shape. Ran true and fast. Highly recommend playing the course. Great value.
Great Course, Great Shape, Great Staff
Everything about this course/facility was fantastic. Some of the best, most consistent greens I have played in the area so far. Except for a few small spots of burnout on the fairways everything was green where it was supposed to be.
Only played Palmer, but it was a GREAT track. Not overly difficult, I shot the best score of my life here!
Staff was great, practice areas were quite nice and not crowded, would highly recommend. Get a deal on this via GolfNow or wait until it's hot, regular rates are far too high during regular busy season, but great prices now for the quality.
wildfire good but not as good as usual
somewhat unorganized at drop off/1st tee area. also, help a little less than polite. course conditions were ok but not as good as usual---edges around greens etc were a little barren/burned out. not nearly as nice as around when ladies play their tournament
