Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Love the course, staff and the JW Marriott
Have played the Palmer course multiple times over the years of vacationing and now living in the Phoenix Valley. I have enjoyed the experience every time, no matter how well or poorly I play. Course is long and difficult enough to keep your attention, but the greens hold your approaches and roll true so you are rewarded for good play. Staff is courteous, encouraging and helpful; just what you would expect of Marriott staff. Come hit on the range to get loose, grab a bite, chat with staff and other golfers, and enjoy the course, the views and the experience of playing a championship level course without killing your budget.
Solid course and convenient to the 101
I truly enjoyed this course. The staff was very friendly. Considering it had recently rained, the course dried up well. The practice facilities appeared to be in great shape, although you can only use the practice facilities if you are staying at the hotel, a member, or have a tee time that day. It would be nice if they offered the ability to pay a fee to use the practice facilities, especially if you are a local resident. However, I do understand why they do not allow it as well. I will definitely be back when the price is right.
Superb Condition
Totally worth playing. Beautiful grounds and the maintenance of this course is very much on par with all the other greats located in the area.
Wasn't the biggest fan of the flow of the course, and i am not the biggest fan of Palmer courses......but since the condition was so good I'm looking forward to come back and play the Faldo course at Wildfire.
Where the LPGA plays
Nice that they allow walking. Greens were to slow for the price we paid but a great layout.
Excellent golf course for all
Staff service was perfect. Course in excellent condition. Only reason for not giving a five star rating was lack of changing room facilities for non members.
Great Course
The course was in great shape played 18 in three and a half hours. The staff was very helpful in that this was my first time there. Played four courses in five days and this one had the best staff. Would play again for sure.
Fun in Sun
Fun course. Only issue for me was slow greens...but fairness to course they had recently overseeded entire course. Course maintenance is a very good thing.
Decent experience
Played the Palmer course. The Faldo was in overseed. A very nice track with many interesting holes. Staff were very good and friendly. Good warmup/practice facilities.
The course was not in top shape. I'm guessing they were getting close to oversee. Many rough patches here and there; especially around the greens. The greens themselves were also not ideal as they were quite slow and hairy. I guess that's reflected in the price I paid due to the shoulder season. If I had paid top dollar I would have been quite disappointed.
Play the Faldo course or wait for Palmer to come out of overseed if you are paying top dollar.
Pace was pretty good. 4hrs 15mins.
Great as always
Great Arnold Palmer design. Course in great condition. Firm, fast greens. Excellent service and amenities.
Wildfire - Palmer
Real Good course. Great value and I am not a huge desert golf fan, but overall real nice course. Tough but fair golf holes. Worth your time if you are in area.
Good conditions
A resort course. Maintained well.
Google GPS shows it wrong.
Tees green and you can see fairways. From tips to forward a good selection to choose your yardage. If high capper, whites start requiring a long 100+ yd tee carry.
Fairways ok but if your tendency to slice/hook better carry extra balls. Washes are across 8 fairways. Summertime so expect longer grass. Sides have rolling mounds.
Greens aren't elevated; just slanted back to front, or off side. Only 1 side water. Some rolling mounds to greens.
No burn out. Very good shape. Staff attentive. Signage for most part good.
Great course!
Played early, had the entire course to ourselves. Amazing conditions and great layout!
Pleasantly surprised
Our foursome was a mixed group, included my son, the husband of my wife's friend that I have never played golf with, and a 4th golfer who joined us who was 2 days removed from getting married in Sedona. We decided to play from the white tees, although my son and I would normally play from a little longer set of tees. The experience was excellent. A very good challenge even from the shorter distance. The greens and tees were in perfect condition which is the most important areas to me. Great day.
Great condition
The course is in perfect condition. Even though it's summer every part of the course was great.
AZ summer golf
I played Wildfire on a late Saturday tee time. Check in and customer service was great as normal with a Marriott course.
Range balls included in the tee time and range was in decent shape.
Tee boxes and greens were in good condition and very consistent. The fairways were brown and hard. A few drives bounced so high they appeared to be hitting off of cart path. Many areas around the greens were having turf replaced and large chunks of grass were nearly unplayable.
I was surprised at the overall condition of Wildfire considering I have played here before in the summertime and it is usually kept in better condition than most golf courses in the area.
Palmer Pride
This is a resort course designed by Arnold Palmer. I will personally send Arnold a thank you note, the course is one of the best I have ever played and especially in Scottsdale. The ground staff had the course in perfect condition, the golf shop staff were professional and very helpful, and the cart attendants were especially professional and courteous. I WILL PLAY THIS COURSE AGAIN MANY TIMES. The tee system and course layout is really conducive to fast play. The greens were very receptive and the putting surfaces were a joy to putt on. Very true to the sight line.
The course has matured
We played the course several times during the initial years. Although, recognizable it was in nice shape. Grass in fairways was very mature. Possibly zoysia grass as the ball sat up very well. The greens had been re- surfaced within the last couple of weeks but they were still good. A little bumpy and slower than most of the greens in the area. Although, not a distraction or hindrance to our round. Some mosquitos present due to recent rains so bring your bug spray. I would really like to play it again soon.
