Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Another good Palmer course
Nice course with good vistas. The staff was helpful and courteous. Would like to play it during the golf season as the heat had taken its toll.
Great place to play!
Nice and challenging for any golfer. The course is very well taken care of and the people are great. This is a large resort so you can be guaranteed that everything will be there for you and in good shape any time of the year!
Slow Pace of Play
Very slow pace of play, never saw a ranger or club pro come by to speed up pace in front of us. Great course, very fun and challenging. The staff seemed a little overwhelmed when we arrived and wasn't the friendliest, carts weren't ready etc.. Think they were caught off guard with the number of tee times or short handed. I've played here three times and previously they've always been friendly and great.
Solid Course
Overall a nice experience. Good course, solid layout. The Practice areas were a bit dicey - grass was a little bare on the range, and certain areas were roped off for 'members only' (and no members using them).
This could be a top-notch resort, but needs a little attention to get there.
Awesome, but REALLY?!?
I have lived in AZ for almost 20 years and always wanted to play at Wildfire, but the rates were always insane especially for this time of year. When golfnow had a 3:40PM twilight rate of $25 I was all over it. The course conditions were great and staff was friendly. I was out to just have fun and didn't want to use driver off every tee so I played from the whites. So far 5 stars.
Then I get to the tee box and the threesome in front of me is just teeing off, so already we are behind. OK no rush, I am by myself and just want to enjoy. When I catch up with them at the next hole they say I can join them but the TWOSOME in front is holding them up! I decide not to and just figure it should speed up. Then the FOURSOME behind me catches up! After a TWO hour front nine I tell the service staff what is going on in hopes of them sending someone out to get things moving. HAH what a waste of breath! On the back the threesome in front becomes a TWOSOME so I figure we should be moving now. Nope, I think they must have been playing for a trophy as they refused to play ready golf, on the green furthest always putted first, and they needed to read the hole from every angle. Which I guess wasn't that bad as the TWOSOME in front of them was playing slower now! I got to hole 15 at about 6:45PM and now it is starting to get dark. Things should speed up now, right? Nope, even slower. I got done at 7:45PM as a single with (2) TWOSOMES in front of me. Now I know why I never played Wildfire, and probably won't ever again. It is a great resort course and should take under 4 hours to play, especially if you play from the right tees! BIG SIGN WHEN YOU START TO PLAY IT FORWARD!! If you have nothing else to do for 4-5 hours then this is the course for you!
Great course
Course was in excellent condition. Staff was extremely courteous. Would play here anytime
Great value and condition for early June
Played the Palmer course Sat June 5th. Course was in very good condition given the time of year. Greens rolled true. At the current rates it is very good value for the money.
great course, great value on summer rates
course in great shape, fairways and greens excellent. Staff very friendly, GolfNow summer rates are a great bargain.
Palmer Course at Marriott
The Course was in great shape and played interestingly but not so interesting as to be unfair. Greens were a little slower and somewhat inconsistent but held a good shot and even backed up one. The greens were big targets and the green landing areas were generous and fairly forgiving. One caveat is to watch for the depression areas and hidden hazards on a few holes.
Great complex!
A resort layout and well-kept throughout! Solid practice area, driving range, chip/sand green, putting green. Great conditions throughout, GPS helps with some of those shots you just can't see where NOT to miss. Some interesting split fairways and a few blind shots, but not so many as to make it unfair, for a first timer. Greens receptive to shots and putt medium-fast. I'll be back again!
You will like this course
Played the course for the first time after playing McCormick ranch the day before. No comparison.
Couse was in excellent shape! Nice track and great views!!! Will play again this summer.
Fun Course
Challenging and Beautiful! The slopes of the Palmer course mixed with desert rough was a great combination for any level Golfer. I will be returning to this course.
Great course but slow play
This a great course but the pace of play can be slow at times and there's little effort on the part of staff to address it.
Nice course
Course was in beautiful shape, staff was friendly, range was decent, but drinks were expensive. The hot deal we booked was awesome cheap. Definitely golfing here again and booking through golfnow again.
Great Day at an Arnold Palmer course
Excellent course for every level of golfer. Beautiful weather and course condition.
Great
Always a great track. Fairways greens and tee boxes are well groomed and easy to hit from. The only complaint I had from this past round was the sand was extra soft compared to normal making bunker play extremely difficult. BUT don't hit in the sand and all is wel.
Great course not real narrow fairways
I shoot in high 90s. The fairways were a good width for desert course. Short par 3s and good greens. Will play it again
Wildfire-Palmer
Fairways and greens in excellant condition. Tee boxes a bit hard.
Repeat try
Tried this again after seeing LPGA tear it up.
Needs better marshaling to keep pace going..
In good shape but greens are difficult.
Cost for a non-motel staying person a bit high.
Punishment at the Palmer Course
This is probably the 20th time that I have played this course. The facility and staff have never let me down. I was entertaining clients from across the country and this was indeed a treat and a "punishment." for them.
Coming from Cleveland my clients had spent the last five months hunkered down in the snow with little to no ability to pick up a golf club. For this reason alone the Palmer course proved more than they could handle. Although a seasoned golfer can shoot low rounds at this course, the beginner or rusty golfer can see some difficulty in the undulating greens and dogleg fairways. No matter what you say it is not the pristine fairways that force arrant shots. Pace of play was good and the starters definitely take into account skill levels and group sizes when populating the start list. It was very seldom that we were either pushed or shoved by any other golfing enthusiasts.
I would always recommend this course to Arizona visitors and I would also urge golfers to try not only the Palmer course but the Faldo which is also located on campus. We wary, the Faldo is more challenging in my opinion.
Hit them straight and play AZ golf you wont regret it.
