Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Solid track / good value
Good variety of holes and the course is in very good shape. Play early and the pace of play will be quick. Played in 3 hours being second off
Good value and quick round
Good value <$60 for 18 holes, cart, range balls. Nice resort course, really not many memorable holes. Extensive practice facility. Newish carts with GPS capability, really helpful. Course condition good -- particularly greens.
Overall good condition
The course is good condition, the greens are a little slow and grainy.
Greens
Greens in great shape. Putting true. Sand good. Got behind 2 slow 4-soms on back nine. Made for a very slow, HOT ( 104 deg) back nine!
Great course
I didn't know what to expect since I'm from Ohio. Totally different landscape than I'm used to playing. This course was challenging and in great shape. I would definitely play this course again.
Excellent course that is deceptively difficult
Having previously played the Faldo course we wanted to give the Palmer course a try and we were not disappointed. Greens were in excellent condition! Staff was extremely friendly. Course is narrower then many phoenix resort courses and you can get in trouble if you are not careful. Pace of play was excellent. Not as picturesque as some courses but if you want a true test of golf on a well maintained course this is a must play. Our golf now rate was a ridiculous $22 for a world class golf course.
Great Course
Course was in great condition and pace of play was very quick (played as a 2 with a 4 in front and finished under 4 hours). Greens were smooth and true ball rolled well on the greens. All in all it was a great course in great condition.
Nice layout and excellent condition
Fun and challenging! Beautiful condition. Friendly staff and good value depending what time of year you play.
36 before noon
I had an early tee time on a Monday for the Palmer course. The tee sheet wasn't full so the starter let me go early to get ahead of a foursome. I was able to play through a few groups and finish in a little over 2 hours. So I went to the club house and asked about a play it again rate to see the Faldo course and they let me play a second round for $25. I played again as a single and the couple of groups I came across were kind enough to let me play through. I was able to play both courses and finish 36 holes before noon. It's a great way to start a day! :) Now for some info on the courses. Palmer plays a little longer and tougher. More of a target golf course. There is not a huge amount of rough. If you miss the target you can end up in the desert. You don't have to end up in the desert to see wildlife. Some forced carries to get to some fairways. Very little water comes in to play. Even though it's longer you should approach with finesse rather than try to over power. Faldo has a bit wider fairways and more straight forward appearance. Palmer is a bit tougher but both play as expected if you play the appropriate tees. I heard this was a difficult course. I didn't find it too difficult. Both courses were in excellent shape for this time of year. You could tell the greens were aerated recently, but rolled true. They were not as slow as some courses around the area but not super fast either. Greens had some break but with any experience they were readable and didn't break too much. This was my first time so I was not familiar with the layout. The GPS and flybys helped for club selection, bunker locations, and carry distance. There were a couple of holes I questioned the pin yardage but the front and back of green yardage seemed correct. Maybe they moved the holes but didn't update the GPS yet. The tee boxes and fairways were in above average condition for this area and time of year. The cart girls were nice and saw them a few times each course. Buy 3 beers and get one free deal. Staff and starters were friendly. I thought this course was on the higher end of my normal price range but found it was a good value and would play it again. If this is the off season, I would love to see it in season.
Excellent Golf Facility
The course was in excellent condition, pace of play about 4 hours, and the service associates were perfect. The beverages (in the club house), a soft drink, was $4, which is high.
Also the practice chipping area did not provide and area for "regular golfers", a sign read for "MEMBERS ONLY", which to me gave an undesirable message.
Wildfire Palmer
Practice area was well chopped and needed reseed. We had our range session and putts then waited on the Marshall to introduce us to the other pair only to be told they already gone to the 1st Tee.
Course is in great shape, greens fast and true.
Typically the refreshment cart at this resort course is not cheap . $6 for a beer but what would you pay for a beer in 106 degrees?
Overall a great setting ,well maintained and friendly staff. I will go back.
Palmer course
This was the first time playing this course and I was pleasantly surprised. Pace of play was good, course was in great shape, and it was challenging. The sand was consistently soft, the greens were fair and true. As with any challenging course, as long as you can keep it in the fairway, you'll have a good round.
Great course
Course in great conditions with excellent greens. Played 7 courses this week with a wide range of prices. This course ranks at the top and is the best for the value.
Hot temps bring hot deals
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club was in excellent condition, as usual. The greens held approach shots nicely and the greens rolled true. The tee boxes, fairways, and areas around the green were well manicured. The only negative was the guy who checked me in at the pro shop could not have been less friendly if you paid him to be.
Great Resort Course
Course in excellent condition even in the midst of hot Arizona summer. Greens rolled true and fairways excellent.
Nice course in great condition
Challenging course with great practice facility. Beautiful resort setting.
The course is a great value right now.
The course is in very nice condition but the greens are pretty slow. I think this is to be expected in 110+ heat. Overall...lots of fun and a great value.
Wildfire in the summer
Been a long time since playing here. As a local Arizonan I don't play much in state this time of year. The course was in better condition than most this time of year and the staff was great. Worth playing in the heat compared to fighting all the winter visitors and the slow pace of play during the cooler months.
KJF
Very enjoyable round with good conditions; however, desert natural areas are being taken over by noxious weeds. Did someone forget to spray or are homeowners lining some holes mandating no herbicides???
Great day
Greatly enjoyed the round and the course. Palmer course has fair driving areas, various styles of holes and excellent greens. Would gladly recommend this course to anyone.
