Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Excellent experience every time
Course is in great shape in the middle of July. The carts GPS is awesome. Great experience every time.
Awesome Round at a Nice Course
This was my first time playing, but was recommended by friends. I had a slight hiccup at the start, but I played with a 2some and a single and had a great day. The GPS in the cart was very helpful since I had not played there b4. It gives a flyover at the start of each hole and allows to get distances fairly easy. It was a hot day and the cart girl came around 4 times and refilled my ice each time. Finished rhe round in just over 4 hours. Greens were recently aerified so they were a little bumpy, but the rest of the course was gorgeous. Definitely recommend the course and I will be back.
Wildifre retains its allure years and years after opening
Holes are fair, well laid out and plenty of room for trouble. Because of heat, greens are cut high and heavily watered. Therefore, very slow with partial offset that breaks are somewhat minimized., Unfortunately Wildfire in season has priced itself out of my market like $190. Specials are few and discounts limited., You need to do more for average income golfers like two specials a day instead of developing a snobbish tone in your pricing. Note: no cups available at starter's table for drinking on a very muggy day.Shame on you !
Desert course
Very nice course. The greens were mostly recovered from the aeration although they were a bit slow. My wife and I finished the round in 3.5 hours. Nice.
What a fun course!
Bunkers, bunkers everywhere! Fun course, extremely well maintained and the greens are always perfect. If you have not played here I recommend the course. If you are more intermediate play Faldo first.
3 Separate Reviews-Superintendent, Club House Guy and Marshalls
The course was in great shape. The greens are just about healed from aeration and should be all nice and cut this week. Superintendent you and your crew presented a really well kept course, 5 Star Rating
There is a ego issue with the guy in the club house, try and smile and be a little more friendly. The actual organization for playing went like this. I had to ask the starter about being ready to go at my start time, it was basically self serve and they seemed confused. They scheduled me by myself, in front of me was a twosome and then a single in front of them. Who schedules like this? I ended up leaping the two some so I could join the other single. No way should two single players be on the course by themselves, especially on a weekend morning. First hole, both divot bottles empty. It annoys me when the practice range has disgusting and very little water in the club cleaning buckets. Attention to detail please.
Marshalls-They did a great job getting everyone moving at a faster pace. They also were very friendly. They were on the course the whole time, this was a good thing.
Fantastic Value
My favorite resort and the golf is first class too.
Excellent
The only person that needs to brush up on friendly is one of the men in the Pro Shop. He was very indifferent with us and we suspect it was because we played on a special and were not members. Pro Shop personal in public courses are more welcoming than this guy. Other than that everyone from bag drop to when we finished were friendly, professional and helpful.
Great Course
Great place to play, usually in great conditions. Be aware though, that the staff obviously looks down upon customers who book through GolfNow. Overall, a lot of fun.
Great course
The course was fantastic. It was in great shape, especially for this time of year. I played July third which is an extremely hot time of year here. The guys in the clubhouse were friendly and most of the staff were great. The only thing I didn't like was that I had asked one of the bag guys if I could get a little sun block and he refused. There were something like 20 bottles of sunblock stashed behind the counter at the bagdrop I was told by another employee that they were left behind in the carts by previous golfers. Overall, I would recommend this course
Fourth of July
Course staff was excellent and very friendly. There were some spots on the fairways that were a little bare. but overall the course was in good condition.
Not worth it
Course was soaking wet and not due to rain
fairways were not good
greene were inconsistent
fun track
toughest of the 2 tracks but course was in great condition. nice staff.
Another good Palmer course
Nice course with good vistas. The staff was helpful and courteous. Would like to play it during the golf season as the heat had taken its toll.
Great place to play!
Nice and challenging for any golfer. The course is very well taken care of and the people are great. This is a large resort so you can be guaranteed that everything will be there for you and in good shape any time of the year!
Slow Pace of Play
Very slow pace of play, never saw a ranger or club pro come by to speed up pace in front of us. Great course, very fun and challenging. The staff seemed a little overwhelmed when we arrived and wasn't the friendliest, carts weren't ready etc.. Think they were caught off guard with the number of tee times or short handed. I've played here three times and previously they've always been friendly and great.
Solid Course
Overall a nice experience. Good course, solid layout. The Practice areas were a bit dicey - grass was a little bare on the range, and certain areas were roped off for 'members only' (and no members using them).
This could be a top-notch resort, but needs a little attention to get there.
Awesome, but REALLY?!?
I have lived in AZ for almost 20 years and always wanted to play at Wildfire, but the rates were always insane especially for this time of year. When golfnow had a 3:40PM twilight rate of $25 I was all over it. The course conditions were great and staff was friendly. I was out to just have fun and didn't want to use driver off every tee so I played from the whites. So far 5 stars.
Then I get to the tee box and the threesome in front of me is just teeing off, so already we are behind. OK no rush, I am by myself and just want to enjoy. When I catch up with them at the next hole they say I can join them but the TWOSOME in front is holding them up! I decide not to and just figure it should speed up. Then the FOURSOME behind me catches up! After a TWO hour front nine I tell the service staff what is going on in hopes of them sending someone out to get things moving. HAH what a waste of breath! On the back the threesome in front becomes a TWOSOME so I figure we should be moving now. Nope, I think they must have been playing for a trophy as they refused to play ready golf, on the green furthest always putted first, and they needed to read the hole from every angle. Which I guess wasn't that bad as the TWOSOME in front of them was playing slower now! I got to hole 15 at about 6:45PM and now it is starting to get dark. Things should speed up now, right? Nope, even slower. I got done at 7:45PM as a single with (2) TWOSOMES in front of me. Now I know why I never played Wildfire, and probably won't ever again. It is a great resort course and should take under 4 hours to play, especially if you play from the right tees! BIG SIGN WHEN YOU START TO PLAY IT FORWARD!! If you have nothing else to do for 4-5 hours then this is the course for you!
Great course
Course was in excellent condition. Staff was extremely courteous. Would play here anytime
Great value and condition for early June
Played the Palmer course Sat June 5th. Course was in very good condition given the time of year. Greens rolled true. At the current rates it is very good value for the money.
