Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
About
The Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 1997. The par-72 golf course measures 7,145 yards from the tournament tees. "I enjoy designing golf courses that celebrate the sheer fun of golf," Palmer said about this course, "and Wildfire is exactly that."
The Bermuda grass Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club. It features a GPS option that offers golfers detailed mapping of the Faldo and Palmer courses, precise yardages for tee shots and approach shots to the greens, and the chance to order breakfast and lunch from the golf cart. Additional features include communication with the golf shop, a CBS Sportsline ticker with all scores 24 hours a day, and the leader board for tournaments. Its sibling, the Faldo golf course, also features the system.

Punishment at the Palmer Course
This is probably the 20th time that I have played this course. The facility and staff have never let me down. I was entertaining clients from across the country and this was indeed a treat and a "punishment." for them.
Coming from Cleveland my clients had spent the last five months hunkered down in the snow with little to no ability to pick up a golf club. For this reason alone the Palmer course proved more than they could handle. Although a seasoned golfer can shoot low rounds at this course, the beginner or rusty golfer can see some difficulty in the undulating greens and dogleg fairways. No matter what you say it is not the pristine fairways that force arrant shots. Pace of play was good and the starters definitely take into account skill levels and group sizes when populating the start list. It was very seldom that we were either pushed or shoved by any other golfing enthusiasts.
I would always recommend this course to Arizona visitors and I would also urge golfers to try not only the Palmer course but the Faldo which is also located on campus. We wary, the Faldo is more challenging in my opinion.
Hit them straight and play AZ golf you wont regret it.
Sparky
Tips in layout and staff
Wonderful course, great layout, not as many sand traps as Faldo course. Fast greens, challenging. On course bathrooms good. Cart girl came around several times.
Very true and fast greens
Greens were in great shape - they rolled very true and fast - fairway in good condition but rough a little brown
Only complaint was no food at turn and beverage cart only stopped for us once per 9 holes
Just "OK"
We had to play a combo of two different 9 hole courses which made it confusing with the handicaps. I should have been told by Golfnow.com that this was the days condition because I wouldn't have booked this course.
well groomed
Played front Faldo and front Palmer as they were repairing the back nines after the LPGA.
great shape, fast but true greens. Sand is everywhere, especially on the Faldo and is very heavy and tough to blast through.
Course is in great shape, otherwise.
Not worth the money
Golf course is in good condition and fun to play. However, the $30 Cobb salad with chicken, plus the overall unfriendliness of the staff, really take away from the course. I don't plan on returning.
beautiful course
This was an amazing course. In great shape with fast true greens. The staff was very helpful even with the craziness of the LPGA tournament going on that weekend. Just an overall great experiance. Round went smooth with no waiting. Would definitely make the trip to play here again.worth every penny.
Great Round
Even with the LPGA Tournament at this venue on this particular day, the staff was tremendous. Course was in great shape and the greens were fast and true with very few ball marks. Pace of play was great, never had to wait.
Worth the Price for Sure
Nice track. Comfortable layout. Nice array of tees. We played the Championship and for us it was the correct choice. Couple of the tees were set back on the Tournament Tee location which made for some "monster par 4's" but the air is thin in the desert so we were still able to hit long irons into the greens. Challenging but fair. Condition was nearly perfect, but we played it 10 days before the LPGA event this year. ENJOY... Afternoon tee times made the price very attractive.
Fair Play
This is a straight-forward, moderately difficult course, with no water and little sand to challenge you. The greens are very firm, and hitiing your approach short and running it up is crucial. The greens will not accept flag hunting. It is in good condition, with wide fairways. It is an enjoyable if not particularly tough track.
Another great Palmer course
First time playing Wildfire. Always search out Palmer courses. Palmer courses are always challenging, but fair and fun.
Tee'd off at 2:30 and finished 18 paying the twilight rate of $99.Played from the Blue tees which was plenty of distance and just about right.
Overall course was in very good condition and greens rolled well.
Definitely want to play again.
nice desert course
nice desert course. good greens. bunkers could use a little more sand in them. would play again.
Condition
Excellent greens. Rough was not over seeded and nonexistent. Fairways werein excellent condition. If you miss the fairway you end up on the desert because there was no rough to slow your ball. Hit 'em straight.
Course was in excellent condition
Totally enjoyed this course. Everything was top drawer. Would like to see a mix of tees that would make the course play around 6300 yrds. Second group off, went off as a twosome, had the course to ourselves & played in just over 3 hours plus had a great time with John from Minnesota.
Favorite course on my trip to Phoenix
I had a blast playing this course. The greens were excellent and putts rolled true. Great course.
Not enough bang for the buck!!
This is the fifth course I've played while in the Phoenix area, and I would say this has been the poorest value .
Really nice golf experience-for all levels
Great day at Wildfire Golf Course--played the Palmer.
Course needs an additional directional sign or two to make sure you get to the right tee box--otherwise simple to get around.
Bunkers were challenging, but the hard packed sand lets you attack the fairway bunkers. Challenging greens, but not a killer--overall a nice design, and great looking course.
Little pricey but a great round.
Great layout, target golf with fast challenging greens. Nice to see a course where the players take pride in course care.
Great
Great day, great course and staff. great practice area for warming up prior.
