Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort receives distinctions: Golf Digest placed it among the top 450 U.S. public courses, and it regularly features among Arizona's best 25 golf course. It doesn't hurt that the golf club regularly hosts eye-catching affairs like the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic and the Phoenix Suns Scramble. The golf course itself offers lush greens that entwine with the Sonora Desert's terrain, which the golf club says it carefully preserves, and features 18 holes of championship golf in tandem with magnificent scenery and plenty of challenges.

There's a fairly good chance that golfers will catch sight of a quail or coyote out on the Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and management asks that layers give the critters the right of way. In order to ensure golfers' shots go straight and don't snag in a cactus or chuckwalla, the club offers both individual and group glf lessons. This is also a place to enroll in the Hilton Golf Academy.

That's before the round at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, though: Afterward, mosey on back to the 19th hole, called the Pointe In Tyme, for the drinkables and eatables.

Great Day

Great value for the course. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They invited us to come back and play once we were finished. Very important that they spoke to us after the round to find out if all went well and we enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for the great day.

Always Reliable

Course was in good shape, as always. Fairways cut at an ideal height and greens were fast but rolled true.

Not an easy course even at 6,300 yds. Careful on #9; lots of spin on the right portion of the green will cause the ball to roll back off the front resulting in an awkward uphill lie.

Make sure to bring your A game.

Staff has always been great but 19th hole has been closed for a while due to Covid.

Stunning view as you go up and down the mountain.

This is now one of my top 5 places to play. Every hole had its own difficulty, its own mystery, and its own charming beauty. I was worried about the pace of play since the groups ahead were pretty slow. However, it gave me the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the course and the scenery of the hills and city. Would play this course again in an instant.

Zero course management

The most hit or miss course in Arizona. You can have a good time or the pace of play will drive you insane. Today was another miserable experience. Lasted eight holes in 2.4 hours before calling it quits

LeiboAZ,

We are sorry that your latest round did not meet your expectations and it appears your review may be misleading. According to our Marshall's records, you were on the 7th hole in 1 hour and 15 minutes, well under our expected pace of play of 4:18. In fact, all the groups in front of you had played the front 9 in under 2 hours. We do pride ourselves on course management and ensuring all golfers have an enjoyable round. I would be happy to discuss your most recent round with you. Please email matt.nagel@hilton.com.

Overall a great course. The staff was extremely friendly with range balls and club cleaning included. Layout was fun with some great elevation holes. Pace of play was 4.5 hours, but got behind a few slower groups. Would definitely recommend!

Perfect fairways, unbelievably fast greens, fun and challenging round

Lookout Mountain Still Delivers

Lookout Mountain remains one of my favorite courses in the area. It offers great views on several holes, and most holes require precision placement of your tee shots. Most greens are very tough, with a fair amount of undulations and subtle breaks that make putting a real challenge. The par 3's can really ruin your score, lol. They can be made even more difficult depending on pin placement. Today it felt as though the pin placements were chosen for a professional tournament. The fairways are in very good condition, though not as lush as other courses I play regularly. The elevation changes make the course play longer than it measures so choose your tee box wisely. And, the customer service is always outstanding. You will be hard pressed to find a friendlier bunch of folks working a course.

Great course, but very slow play

I like to keep a steady pace when I play. For the entire back nine, my threesome was waiting on the threesome in front of us, who was waiting on the foursome in front of them. It wasn’t slow because of the cart rules—people were hitting stray balls and spending a lot of time trying to find them. I hate getting out of a good rhythm and slow play always does that to me. Other than that, the course was in great shape and the staff was wonderful. It was my first time playing, but hopefully my first of many.

Interesting layout

Staff is friendly and helpful

Greens rolled true and at a good pace

Tee boxes ok

Fairways in good shape

Bunkers - was only in one green side - was in good condition

Pace of play a little slow - 4:30

Was not cart path only

Layout - was a little worried playing first three holes , pretty flat and run of the mill

Then the elevation changes started and the course was very interesting and challenging

Course plays shorter as several holes play downhill and takes the driver out of your hand ( 6500 from back tees)

Would play again

Sam5773357,

Thank you for taking the time to review Lookout Mountain Golf Club. We are happy that you enjoyed your recent round, were treated well by our team members, and enjoyed the layout. The first several holes do not provide the elevation of the middle 9 holes, but we consider them a good "warmup"! We look forward to seeing you again!

Course needs a redesign, the routing is terrible, seems you could fit another nine in the land if you did it correctly. Every freaking fairway pinches in at 275, hit multiple great drives that ended up in less than ideal areas. One a trap that i did not notice from the tee in the middle of the fairway, that just for a kick in the nuts is shaped like a heart and deep enough i had to hit sw out of. Speaking of the traps the really need some sand, seemed all were rock hard under a half inch. Greens ran well and speed was consistent albeit slow for my taste. Pace of play on the front was great but ground to a halt on the back 5:15 hour round.

michaelchopkins,

Thank you for taking the time to review Lookout Mountain Golf Club. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the course layout. Being built in 1989, it does not have the length of golf courses today, but still offers a great challenge, with shot placement being key, and green reading being a premium. We are sorry that the pace seemed slow to you. We did have a 30 minute frost delay that morning with a full golf course. We hope to see you again.

I understand and normal conditions the extra charge that the course charged me for my wife to ride because she didn't play but during her ride with me and the course charged me $25 for her to ride with me I think that is sad and I did not appreciate it at all. Everything else about the course was fantastic but I don't think it's right to charge $25 for someone just to ride in a cart.
