San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

The course is not in great condition, not worth the price to play here. Many of the tee boxes were so hard you could hardly get a tee in the ground.

Always enjoy playing here. San Tan Highlands.
My wife and I played with another couple of friends. Easy check in. Range was No Drivers today. Not a worry. Greens were in good shape. Tee boxes and fairways as well. GPS keeps you honest. No going off the paths into the rocks or passing the pegs leading up to the green! We ate at the outdoor patio and enjoyed our meals. The staff were very friendly. We will return here and recommend it to others. I wish we could take the clubs to our vehicles when finished play.

Great course lay out
Not sure why there are so many negative reviews, our cooler was full of ice and had water bottles supplied. Staff was friendly, played 9 on the front. Nice forgiving fairways and wide. Straight and nice selection of longer par 4s. Would definitely recommend to a friend and will be coming back to play a full 18.

Great Course, Great Value
Stayed for a week in the PHX area and this was my favorite course. First week of February conditions were great. Greens were rolling and fairways were green. Would definitely come back to this course.

First time front nine
Overall, the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in good shape considering the dryness. The only downside was that the pace of play clock did not seem to consider the multiple times you cross the neighborhood streets and have to wait for cars to pass.
