San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Great golf day
We only played the back nine, but we were very iimpressed with the quality of the course. The super sloped greens made bogie common, but we had a great day, and were paired with a very fun couple from Manitoba.

Enjoyable cag
A fun course to play. Pace of play was good. Took about 4:15 to play 18 holes. Parts of the course were over watered. A couple tee boxes were wet, while other areas needed some water. Greens were rolling fantastic. Will definitely play again!

Fairway conditions are good, a little rough elsewhere
Homeowners think they have privilege, ranger could have been more forceful with time of play
Personal carts allowed on course, sometimes threesomes have three carts.

Poor practice area
Course have the ability to have a chipping course we could practice hitting 30 to 60 yard shots another sand trap and no driver 3 to 4 times a week. It will be impossible for this course ever to be top rated. Buy some mats better to hit off the Matt three days a week than no driver simple investment big returns
