About
San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Great course
Love this course. Back nine was super fun with elevation change and challenging holes. Front ninth was fun too. $70 to play this course was a steal. Staff was very friendly. Good driving range. Highly recommend.
A phenomenal makeover
I’ve played this course a dozens when it was Johnson Ranch. The average pace was about 5.5 hours. The tees were always back up, and parts of the fairways were rough. Under new ownership the pace has improved to 4 to 4.5 hours, the greens and fairways are well maintained. I would also add that new menu at the restaurant is excellent.

Back 9 is so picturesque. Hole 11 & 16 are my favs
A Taco Tuesday Round
The course is coming along nice and it would be great if the greens were cut a little shorter. Still a little slow but improving for sure.
Another good time
I cannot say enough good things about this golf course 2 different style from the front to the back 9 the elevation on the back always makes it interesting and fun to play. Then stop in had some good fun afterwords on Friday night live band great atmosphere
Fairways beautiful, greens inconsistent
Course is in good shape.. Need some marshals out there that will do something. Pace after hole #4 was very slow, waited at every tee box.
Interesting and a bit challenged
I have played in multiple states and these fairways are wide open. I used my driver here more than any course. It was cart path only and I should have walked it. Greens were around a 9/10 and the fairways were very nice.
All gravel on the outside of the fairway.. The distance were not marked which made this a guessing game. I would not play this course without a range finder. There was not gps or range finding system in the cart. I would expect more. I would take a multiple set of clubs to my ball and guess. My phone was used but taking your clubs and phone to the middle of the course or worse was a hassle. I ask for a small bucket of balls and with green fees was $90. There are a lot of choices here and I would play another course first. I did like the piped in 70's rock.

I like playing this course because the staff is great the course is always in playing condition never been disappointed when I play here keep it up San Tan Highlands
Course was fine
The course conditions were good. The weather was windy and cold. It started to rain on the 18th hole.
