San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

First Round of Snowbird Season
Course was in great shape coming out of overseed. The greens were a little shaggy but over all they are in great shape. Nice to have sand in the traps despite they are still a little loose yet but will firm up over time.

All green cups seemed to be raised. If the ball was not approaching dead-center it would not go in. There were no lip-ins because off center the ball would slip dramatically to the right or left. Need to make sure the cups are seated & tamped.
Some of the rough was so high balls were lost just a few feet off the fairway.

Fantastic Conditions
Must have just overseeded. Greens are shaggy and super slow but overall looking great!! New carts are awesome. They charge $7 for a small bucket of balls for the driving range which is absolutely ridiculous. Otherwise this course is making some really good improvements

Good value
Based on rising golf rates in the valley, this place continues to offer a good value. Front nine is a bit routine, but back nine makes up for it with some fun holes and good views. Play has always been slower here, and it took about 4 1/2 hours to complete 18 holes. Staff is always friendly, and food options are very average.
