Orange Tree Golf & Conference Resort
About
The course at the Orange Tree Golf Resort provides an excellent game of golf in a luxurious setting. The Parkland-style layout features fairways lined with mature trees, which not only enhance the natural beauty of the golf course but can also greatly affect shots. Four lakes are situated on the flat terrain of the course, providing water hazards that come into play on five holes. Sand bunkers also surround every green. Orange Tree Golf Resort's course finishes with its signature hole, where water cuts into the fairway and proceeds to run down the left side all the way to the green. It also requires accuracy on the approach shot in order to hit the small putting surface that is surrounded by tricky elements.

Very Poor Customer Service from John Jackson
I was part of a wedding group that had 17 people and we had the first 4 tee times of the morning. You would think that with the amount of people that came they would be ok with one group having 5 people if the rate of play was not delayed. No one from the course said anything the morning of and I ended up being part of the group that had 5 people. We played the front nine in 2 hours and 15 minutes and at the turn one of the rangers then had an issue with it. We said sorry and what does he want us to do? No one said anything to us. He drove off on his cart and on the 10th the Director of Operations John Jackson pulled up and right off the bat was extremely rude, yelling and threating to kick us off. I was not the one who made the tee times and that was my first time meeting 15 of the players but John Jackson directed all his rudeness towards me. He did not care to have a conversation, he then said we had 10 minutes to split the group up or be kicked off. We told him that we were not behind and had to still wait for the group ahead of us and that splitting us up would hold back the people behind us. He did not care. We split up and on the next tee box I turned around to noticed there was a group of 5 people playing another hole. I took a picture of them to show John at the end of the round. After a hole he came back and said we could go back to 5 so that whole mess was for nothing. At the end of the day, I went in to talk to him and show him the picture. He did not care so they must have been a member or friend. I told him he ruined my back nine and I wanted to be reimbursed for that. He literally laughed at my face and said no. He is a very poor leader and has no customer service skills. Looking at other sites and seeing their reviews now it shows there is a track record for this, and I will have no problem telling everyone I meet to never spend your money at this course. There are plenty of courses in AZ that treat people with respect.
Sand traps
Everything was amazing except the sand traps, hard as cement.
Standing around getting stiff
the front nine was a bit slow but was able to stay loose and play well. the back nine we stood on the t-box for long periods of time and got stiff and blew the entire day.
Don't know why it was so slow but I probably won't go back.
Orange Tree Experience
The Proshop, starter and course marshalls were all friendly and professional. The fairways were nice and plush and greens rolled a little slow. Great experience at the Orange Tree golf course!!
Unbelievably Slow
Course is in good shape, greens better than most I played recently. Moderately fast and true.
BUT, the course play unbelievably slow, over 5 HOURS. Too many Bachelor parties, they were teaming up and play 8 somes from the BLUE TEES, which they couldn't play even on a non windy day. Marshall tried to help but his 4 hour mandate was completely ignored. Need mean Marshalls, not nice guys saying please.
First off
Course was very green, almost too wet, but we did tee off at 6:10 AM. Staff was awesome…food cart came out for the back nine. Greens are ok, a little slow and grainy. Fairways are great, tee boxes need work. Traps get a back rap but they were good for us. Bit of a forgettable layout, many holes look the same. We paid $93 so not terrible. Played in 3:10 so that was the best part. Pro-shop was stocked!
Slow play. Rock hard bunkers.
We waited at least 5 minutes on every tee. No ranger ever.
The threesome ahead of us was all over the course. Naturally they didn’t offer to let us play through. Rock hard bunkers. We played in 4 1/2 hours and would have finished in 3 1/2 if not for exceptionally slow play. Course conditions ok. Worth about a $50 green fee with cart.
Nice course
I liked this course a lot but it just seemed flat and uneventful for a $100 outing. The course is pure, didn't have an unfair lie the whole day. greens are fast and true, not overly receptive and most greens are elevated so you pay the price if you don't hold the green. One thing I really liked a lot were the trees - the fairways missed required well executed punch shots, but you'll be rewarded if you execute the shoot, not like some courses where you have to just get lucky to miss trees.. the scrambling is a lot of fun on this one.
Pace problem
We teed off at around 11 and quit after hole 14 which took. Us 4 hours. Supposedly, there were 3 bachelors party groups in front of us holding up play. Not a good excuse. On the plus side the golf shop staff and starter were welcoming.
Bunkers were terrible; sand like concrete; impossible to dig under the ball
Overall Great with ONE consistent complaint.
I'm not sure what millennium the bunker/traps were last dug up and conditioned, but I've been playing OT for the last 15 or so years. The bunker/traps are constantly cement underneath an "appearance" of being raked--the bear surface so there is a "trace" of rake marks. Therefore, a bunker shot can go 3 feet or 40 yards. A shame and this characteristic ruins an other wise good track!
Good shape
Course is in really good shape and pace of play was quick. Nicole in the golf shop was friendly, but the starter was a grump and the beverage cart girl was none too friendly and was more interested in her phone than helping customers.
Nice course-bit over priced
Booked this on Golf Now not knowing much about the course. The course was very well kept. It has a good deal of trees lining the fairways but the fairways are generous. The greens were in good shape but were very challenging. There was a great deal of undulation in the greens and some of the pin placements made putting almost impossible.
The pace of play was 4 hours. This made for a very enjoyable day on the course. The starter, Chuck, was very friendly and spent some time talking to us before we started our round. He was good at describing the course before we played and his description was very true.
I thought the price was too high for the course. I paid $150 a round. I would pay $100 a round to play it again but I wouldn’t spend $150 to play this course again.
Overall good day!
Great course for the money; I have played this course most times when I'm in Scottdale and have enjoyed each time. Wide fairways but guarded greens make approach shots challenging.
Terrific experience!
My first trip to Orange Tree in 3 years was a great day! Friendly staff, challenging but playable course, in outstanding condition! Even the bunkers were quite playable, unlike most courses here in Maricopa county! A bit pricey, but it was a Saturday morning in peak season. Lunch menu was somewhat limited, but the food was good. I definitely intend to play here again!
