Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

Disappointing !!!!
A very disappointing experience. Course (Pine) was in terrible shape, greens with numerous ball marks and fairways littered with unfixed divots .
Traps unraked.....teeboxes lacked definition and were poorly maintained. A 12:32 tee time began
at 12:58....close to five hours later .....you can do much better somwhere else.....management doesn't get it.....sad!!!
So so experience
Have to say I’m not a fan of courses that don’t overseed the rough. I would rather pay a little more to see a nice green course. Filling the sand traps with nicer sand, or maybe tilling what’s in there shouldn’t be out of the question.
Fun to play
The course was in good shape along with the greens.
Would play it again.
Ratings can be deceiving
Avoided playing this course for a couple of years due to the lower rating scores this club gets from users. I am beginning to understand that a lot of times, if someone has a bad round, they take it out on the course. This course was more than I expected, moderate to good challenge, fairways and greens in good shape, good views and fair price. Just as an FYI, the day I played, they had a early qualifier for the Waste Management Open so don't judge the course on the rating scores.
Nice course
I have played this course a number of times, fairways are generous but a few of them requires some shot making skills- greens roll nice and hold pretty good- you need some signage or arrows painted on the cart path for direction to the next hole and a number of traps need sand. I would definitely recommend this course and will be returning.
Pines at the Ranch
Challenged by water on first whole but all in all a great track. Very well maintained but too much goose activity. Beautiful and scenic.
More challenging than you think
Course is in fine shape and plays fairly. The greens pose a challenge with pin locations typically on graded areas.
Great courses great facility
McCormick Ranch is a great facility right in the heart of Scottsdale both the palm and pine course are excellent. I find a pint course slightly easier than the palm both have an excellent layout with lots of water on the front sides and varied terrain on the back The fairways are in excellent condition as well as the greens both courses offered multiple tea boxes for very skilled levels great staff service and facility at a great value for the money
Unfortunately Slow
First nice day after a few rainy days so the course was packed. Had a 12:30 T time and it took over 5 hours. Front nine we waited one or two groups at each tee box. Back nine was a lot better. Due to the rain, carts were restricted to paths which slowed play as well. Pine course is challenging. It's a good public play course but don't expect it to be in pristine condition.
Locals only
This course was pretty average my review is a little tainted for a few small issues. On arrival bag boys were great and helpful , check in was fine but I expect to be asked if this is our first time get a nice greeting and get an explanation of where things are , if there’s a starter or just listen for your name to be announced. More importantly if and where restrooms are on course ( I’m playing with my wife and this information is necessary). This didn’t happen . There are 2 courses here also so you need to know where to go. After asking bagboys ( great guys) we heard our name announced and went to tee, only to realize a six some teed off in front of us and we are a twosome..
After waiting on hole one they yelled we could play through but didn’t stand aside. I made a comment to cart girl on 2 and she had the Marshall come out and he got them to let us play through . So thank you there ! After that it was just all twosomes in front of us but no one wanted to partner up which I find weird . It actually helps the pass of play .
We then played through a twosome on back which sped things up .
All and all it was an average layout dormant rough ,greens rolled well , lots of water fowl and droppings in spots but didn’t inspire me to come back.
Good Shape
Course was in good shape. Bunkers could be groomed better and the greens have pitch marks but nothing unexpected for a public play course. .
Too many geese
McCormick Ranch (Pine Course) is a very nice facility. Greens are very good, traps groomed nicely and the fairways and tees were are well maintained.
From the blue tees it measures almost 7200 yards.
The geese are the only problem I have with McCormick Ranch. They are around most lakes and a number of fairways.
Tora Tora Tora day of play
I thought the layout was interesting. My concern is that The Pine Course needs more signage to expedite play for players who play the voursefor the first, I have peeve about all the geese that populate the course. Goose feces wa ubiquitous. For the price , it’s a good value.
Needs a facelift
Needs some care. Too many areas where grass bare. Greens ok. Need a ranger to move groups along. Too many twosome and singles which kept pace up and down. This early in season course should be in great shape...plays and looks like end of season overuse.
Perfect
Thanks to your associate who allowed me to have a cart so I could drive to your handicap area to retrieve my clubs and other needed items though there was a cart shortage.
Thanks to your gracious and diligent staff
for a fast check-in, readily available range
balls, food and drink though it was very busy.
The course was in great shape.
Thanks for all your hard work in creating an
exceptional environment to play .
Thanks to God for everything else:
The weather was perfect.
The play was slow on the front nine but that was perfect for me. In addition to having my good friend along, we were paired with a friendly and helpful twosome. Though I played miserably, I wasn't angry.
Golf is the greatest game on Earth, but
I have finally learned it is not as important as my relationship with God, family or friends.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to
you all.
