Monument at Troon North Golf Club
About
The deserts of Arizona are the last place you'd expect to find an ode to the British Open but the Monument course at Troon North is a love song to the golf courses on the other side of the Atlantic, from the ability to play bump-and-run shots into greens into the names of some of the holes.
A round of golf on the Monument Course at the Troon North Golf Club kicks off on a par-4 hole that measures 444 yards from the Black tees. Things get long on the third hole, a par 5 that plays to 564 yards from the Black tee and is one of four holes that come in at over 500 yards from the Black tees.
The 18th hole on the Monument Course at the Troon North Golf Club will be a relative breeze, then, a par 4 that measures just 370 yards from the Black tees.

Troon North Monument is always a nice track to play
The bag drop, pro shop and cart attendants always are friendly and do a great job here of taking care of the golfers. The practice range, chipping area and putting green were in nice shape as usual. Brett the starter did a nice job explaining some course details and we teed off on time despite the other twosome showing up there at the last minute. I find that the fairways are somewhat spacious here and the GPS system is very helpful in determining distances for proper club selection from the tee box. The greens were in great condition and the ball tracked nicely. The back nine has some wonderful views late in the round from the tee boxes.
A stop in the Dynamite grill after the round is a must for some of their great happy hour food, beverages and a view from inside or on the deck.
Great day with my son!
We really enjoyed our day at Troon North. The course was difficult, but fair. Without having gotten "a deal" on GolfNow, we would've struggled with the cost/value. Course was in great shape but the greens were inconsistent..some fast others materially slower. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Dinner was very good and quite reasonable.
Pace of play terrible
Why have a marshal if all he does is ride around to tell you there is a really slow group two ahead of you?
Last time I checked, an on course marshal was to ensure pace of play not explain why you are 1 hour behind pace.
Great course, just needs to enforce a 4:30 round...
Also hidden “water surcharge “? Just tell me in advance what the price is...

Troon North review
Troon North has a great reputation and my experience bore out that reputation. It is an amazingly good golf course. Excellent condition, excellent course design. Pace of play was fine.
Awesome Day
Played the course early afternoon, $84 on golf now. What a great day! Layout, conditions and views incredible. Being from the northeast this was a totally different experience. Staff also very friendly and helpful. This is a must when visiting Scottsdale/Phoenix.
Good, not great
Stunning views, amazing condition.
The course is overrated in my opinion. Layout is meh and course is not that challenging.
I got a good rate after 1, but I am not sure the value is good otherwise....
Awesome
Great experience and amazing staff. It's a high end course and everyone was helpful and knowledgeable. Looking forward to going back!
Troop is a must play
We visit here every year and Troon North is always a must play. It is a real treat.
Great course but I prefer Monument
Both courses at Troon North were incredible, I loved both and highly recommend both courses. The people working at the bag drop were very nice, the clubhouse was really cool and the restaurant had great food. Very cool putting green but the driving range looked like it needed work. No matter where you went you were hitting off of dirt. The grass was nearly non-existent. Worst driving range of our trip. Good thing the range doesn't reflect the courses because the tracks are awesome. I loved the views on both courses, Pinnacle felt like it had a lot of elevation changes, I loved the par 3s on Pinnacle and the bunkers were great. Many houses line the holes so if that makes you nervous, tone it back. Greens are very fast and very well maintained. You will love this course if you like desert golf. A must.
The Views Are Spectacular
My son and I have played this course a few times. The views on the Back 9 are stunning and stay on my mind for months after I return to the snow and cold of MN. The fairways are generous in size and the pace of play is perfect.
Good course for all levels.
Great desert courses, usually come alone but they usually pair you up with other golfers. Some are better some are worse but always have a good time and meet some nice people.
Outstanding Golf Course
Played with my 13 years old son who is a good player that can shot in the sixties not so rarely. I manage to play in the high seventies but this course is a tremendous challenge for the golfers, or at least for us Floridians who are not used to play in the desert. He shot 74 and I shot 86.. A lot of blind shots and you really need to keep the ball in fairway otherwise, it is gone amid the boulders and cactus. Every shot is a challenge. The course was in immaculate conditions despite the drought in Scottsdale area. By far the best one we played in the area, not to say in the whole Southwest region. Very nice and gentle staff and good food awaits you too.
Challenging Desert Golf
Played this course in the heat of the summer 2017. Played early in the morning but it was till HOT. Great clubhouse and very friendly staff. The course itself was difficult and had a bit of elevation changes along the route!
Condition was outstanding, greens ran fast and true.
I would recommend this course to anyone vacationing in the area and its not a long drive from Scottsdale!!
Great Greens
It was mid-september, course had heat issues, fairways seemed a little dead. Greens were still great. Course had beautiful views.
Renovation of Monument just solidifies Troon North ranking
For me, Troon North (price notwithstanding) has always been my overall favorite public golf experience in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, and the recent renovations on the Monument Course just solidify that ranking. When the course reopened late last fall, it didn't happen a minute too early. The new greens were perfect, as were the bunkers, and the fairways, rough and native areas were flawless, too. Combine this with a terrific design that keeps its distance from the homes on the sides of the hills and you pretty much have the ultimate desert golf experience.
