When the architect Rees Jones created the golf course at the Legend Trail Golf Club, he created a golf course that brings out the Old West-style air of Scottsdale and a fun and testing golf course with greens made of bent grass. It's a premium golf course smack dab in the Sonora Desert.

The golf course at the Legend Trail Golf Club features broad fairways, diminutive bunkering and tees placed on islands, and has been called one of the Top 100 golf courses by Golf Magazine. The magazine also gives Legend Trail 4.5 stars out of five among its

Best Places to Play, and has one of the Top 100 Woman-Friendly Fairways, according to Golf For Women magazine. Panoramas include local sites like Pinnacle Peak, and a round at Legend Trail Golf Club gives all levels of golfer several different shot-making options.

Golf a late-afternoon round on Friday or Saturday, and head back to the Trail's End Grill from 4 to 6 p.m. for specials on drinks and appetizers.

Nice but…

The course is in great shape and as always, a beautiful setting. The only real issue was the pace of play. We made the turn in about two hours—slow-ish but acceptable. The back 9 took 3.25 hours. Not sure what the issue was but I have a feeling someone ahead of us was slowing down the whole course. The course needs to have a ranger out checking on problems with the pace of play but we didn’t see one during the entire round.

Nice layout but needs some improvement

Very nice layout. Some very impressive holes. Pace of play could have been better. Big negative greens were not good. Needed to be cut and very bumpy.

I would go back and hope greens are better next time.

Beautiful course, but poorly managed

This is a beautiful course, and with the exception of a couple of funky holes is a great layout. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a nice group of bag handlers. Had to hit off of mats to warm up, which was surprising for a golf course supposedly of this caliber. There is nothing to guide you around this golf course other than links we could find online. It took five hours to play and there was no marshal and surprisingly no beverage cart. We were told they had them, but we never saw them during the entire round. We had a number of instances where a drive hit the fairway, but then ran off the golf course into the desert. The roughs are literally nonexistent so it was like playing on a pool table. Typical for a public track, the course had lots of divots and ball marks. The fairways are just marginal, and after a couple of holes, we agreed to play winter rules. The course itself is beautiful. We saw lots of deer and bobcats. The staff at the Cantina was friendly. We all decided that this was not a course, considering the driving distance from our hotel, that we would play again.

Descent Track

I wouldn’t rush back to pay $130 again. No GPS on carts, some of the greenside bunkers lack sand. Other than those 2 things the course played well.

Descent course - worth $100 or less

Greens were in good shape, some of the greenside bunkers need sand. Pace of play was good till the back nine (2 hrs front/ 2.5 hrs back)

Layout was fun, I’d recommend playing here, not worth more than $125 though.

No GPS on carts and no complimentary water.

Spendy but great

Splurged on this course but I really enjoyed the course. Well maintained. Front nine plays easy but back is challenging. This is one of the better courses I have played in the area.

Slow Play

Front nine was great. The back nine a group of 4 was so slow. Open holes in front. Didn’t ask for us to play thru. No marshal.

Replace your starter

This was my 214th round of the year… played over 50 courses this season and haven’t come across a starter that wasn’t excellent till Legend Trails. He needs a lesson in business economics. He’s what’s known as an expense. Golfers are revenue.

No Beverage Cart

Good course that was in good condition. Friendly staff. The only issue was with the beverage cart. We were told that there was one out but we never saw it. Would certainly recommend playing here.
