Editor's Note: Course closed in 2018. See The Phoenician Golf Club listing.

The Desert/Oasis Course was the Phoenician's first 18 holes, which were later joined by the Canyon nine. The aptly named course may have desert surroundings but its numerous palm trees and blooming flowers will make golfers feel as though they've been transported to a tropical destination. Although all three golf courses cover only 150 acres, none of them feel cramped. Any lack of length is quickly forgotten after playing the creative challenges of the layout. The golf course offers plenty of variety that make it appealing to low and high handicappers alike. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the Desert nine, providing the breathtaking views that have led it to be the most requested course. The Oasis nine is memorable as well with water coming into play on six holes and a unique moat of sand on the par-4 finishing hole.

Fun layout! Great views.

Returned for another round since the course revamp. Remembered course for being a fun layout with interesting holes and great views. Did not disappoint second time around! A good challenge while not being overly difficult. Pick the correct tees for your abilities and you will have a lot of fun. Staff is friendly. Pace was good - carts are a must. Nicely maintained. Convenient location to downtown Scottsdale and PHX.

Great condition and pace of play

Expensive but nothing out of the ordinary for Phoenix in the winter. You get what you pay for and we had a fast round with a great practice range on a course in terrific condition. 10 minute tee time intervals made for a fast pace of play.

The back 9 is the far more interesting side. You have holes right up against the mountains and great views of the valley. The front 9 was a flat down and back course through a residential community. Several holes with doglegs where the driver is taken out of the hands.

Greens ran well (a little slow). Difficult greens - lots of levels and well placed bunkers that will punish you. No water hazards on holes 10-15. Tee boxes were flat and Par 3's weren't full of divots.

Drinks at the turn were not easily accessible, had to go upstairs into the bar to order. Drink cart only came around once on our 3rd hole. Water jugs were not present at tee boxes, however after hole 13 (?) there was a cooler full of water.

Golf carts were relatively new and had GPS, carts would lock up if you were too close to the green. The cart path was weird the entire course - it's a long drive from 9 to 10, we missed the turn from 16 to 17 (the sign was on a construction wall and blended in), and there were several confusing turn arounds for greens and tee boxes (hole 2 in particular).

Course fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. The greens were running a bit slow and the course is cart path only still

Fall Golf in the desert

The Phoenician is a very nice upscale golf resort. The course was in very good shape from tee box to greens. My only complaint is that it was cart paths only and for an older golfer, not the most pleasant experience. But my assumption, which makes get be accurate, is that all the desert courses are cart paths only this time of year. This is not a course that you want to attempt to walk. Located at the base of Camelback Mountain, the course is somewhat hilly, but has some great scenic views.

The Phoenician tees, just over 6000 yards, plays little ng due to the elevation changes tee to green.

Really nice back nine

The design and condition of the course are excellent. Service was friendly but not as helpful as other clubs we played. The only negative was that we had to keep the golf buggy to the paths at all times. I assume that this is because of the overseeding and watering of the fairways but we weren’t told this. This meant that play was slower and judging distance and club selection more time consuming. The distance from greens to tees would make carrying challenging, particularly from 9 to 10 which would take 15 minutes to walk. The front 9 was good but the back nine in the base of the hills was really nice. Of course the weather was perfect which is why we came to Scottsdale in November from the UK where it is now cold, wet and muddy!

Great course, well kept, convenient location

Course had just reopened from overseeding, but was in great shape. It was cart path only, but the round kept about a 3:45 pace. Greens were a little slow. Staff always friendly, clubhouse and pro shop are great. Excellent location on Camelback Mountain makes it convenient to Scottsdale and downtown Phoenix.

Phoenician- playing a round

Great layout, nice course. Pace of play rating was because they had the cart path only rule enforced. They just came off over seeding. Only caveat is to get the whole round in you have to book before 1pm. We only got 14 holes in. Shame as if we could have least had the 90 degree cart rule enforced I think we would have finished.

Beautiful

Great course. not the hardest if you’re looking for a fair course that has gorgeous holes this is your place. It was perfect for our family of 1 experienced and 3 relatively newer (<2 years) playing golf. One of the “newer” guys shot 74, Along with an 80 for one golfer that shoots in the 80s. Course is beautiful. Staff friendly and amenities were top notch. It’s a Troon course so if you’re a member it’s probably a better deal. Enjoyed it

Ok course

Course was standard resort course. I paid over $200 for the round and after playing it, I would not have paid over $100
