Editor's Note: Course closed in 2018. See The Phoenician Golf Club listing.

The Desert/Oasis Course was the Phoenician's first 18 holes, which were later joined by the Canyon nine. The aptly named course may have desert surroundings but its numerous palm trees and blooming flowers will make golfers feel as though they've been transported to a tropical destination. Although all three golf courses cover only 150 acres, none of them feel cramped. Any lack of length is quickly forgotten after playing the creative challenges of the layout. The golf course offers plenty of variety that make it appealing to low and high handicappers alike. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the Desert nine, providing the breathtaking views that have led it to be the most requested course. The Oasis nine is memorable as well with water coming into play on six holes and a unique moat of sand on the par-4 finishing hole.

you won't believe this is a troon course!

this course is a dangerous layout and typically in terrible shape. the golfers are hacks and the pace of play was horrible. leave this one to the fools that come here in the winter and don't mind overpaying for a goat track. some of the greens were sod, some were dirt, and the bunker by the range was full of balls - all of which they blamed on a storm the night before! what?

bring your own gps since the one in the cart is a sales tool for people that came for a massage or a burger instead of golf.

the only thing going for this course is the real estate. they should bulldoze it and build condos.

Great Course

Great Course, we got an awesome deal... It was Cart Path only because of Overseeding so that wasn't the best but it was still a fantastic round.

Good course with some GREAT views

Plays between overseeding and start of the season. Course in the shape I expected, greens were shaggy & slow, fairways & rough were also a little long. Cart path only so pace reflected that. Layout has some spectacular views w/ 2 very short par 3's with elevated tees on the slope of Camelback Mtn worth the price for the views alone. The short yardage of the course Ian made up for with water & bunkering in the short par 4's. I hit 4 iron off the tee a few times leaving 100 yards or less in.

Biggest gripe was the ranger. We what brief waits in every shot on the front, stopped to hit the restrooms at the turn, & then had the ranger waiting for USB on the 10th tee telling us we were behind pace. We promptly caught up on the next hole. That ticked me off. If I'd been paying peak season rates I would have given the pro shop an earful.

While I recommend it as a 'play it once while in PHX' course, I wouldn't pay peak season rates. It is worth $80 - $90 or so, IMHO.

Amazing golf course

The course was beautiful, but fairly slow round Luke most resort style courses in the afternoon. Generally I'm ok with slow rounds, but the staff here really tried to push the pace of play, to the extent that the Marshall told us that we were slowing the round up when we had to wait for the group in front of us for 90% of our shots on the front nine...

Great course, fun track

Played on a Tuesday in early September for a great price. Absolutely beautiful course with very friendly staff - cart girl was terrific fun in particular. Pretty quiet time so pace of play was excellent. Greens run very true but can be a test to properly read - all but one were in good shape, especially for September. Course is quite short so as long as you keep the drive in play, you will have a reasonable approach shot to the green. One of the nicest layouts we've played in Phoenix area - would definitely go back again.

Great Little Course

Great little course with some interesting par 3 holes that usually had a severe elevation drop to the green. Very satisfying if you hit the green. Plays longer on most holes due to elevation changes. Some blind shots to the greens uphill at times made club selection a challenge. I started on the back tees but moved up to the middle tees after a couple of holes. Tee to green the course was perfect. Would have played it twice if I had more time. Play early to beat the heat this time of year.

This birds got wings!

What an outstanding layout! Played Canyon/Oasis. Oasis 9 reminded me of Ocotillo G.R.! The Canyon 9 reminded me of Black Gold in California; lot's of blind tee shots.

For a short (apprx 6100 yards) course/configuration, the degree of difficulty is right up there for shot placement and course management!

Definitely a return engagement!

Amazing

This course is amazing. For middle of the summer conditions this placed looked like a lush green resort course. Fairways were wonderful greens were not hard as rocks all though a little slow they were smooth and running maybe an 8 I could play there over and over again

Nice course but slow

For mid August the course was in great condition. Greens held nicely and rolled well. Only complaint would be cartpath only (they said due to weather conditions) which was unnecessary. The course was dry. This decision slowed play considerably. We had to wait on every hole.

Met expectations. Really nice course. Should keep an eye on hospitality efforts.

One of the premiere public courses in the greater Phoenix area and it did not disappoint. Layout was great. The fairways and greens were long so I assume a mow is coming soon, but none the less a great golf experience.

The pace of play was very poor, but rumor had it that there was a soon to expire Groupon that many people redeemed this day, so I wouldn't anticipate it always being backed up.

One thing I would be conscious of is their beverage cart hospitality. The bev cart working during our round apparently was friends with a foursome who was playing in front of us and eventually behind us. After being told to pass them (by the bev cart attendant) on hole 2, we did not receive very good service there after as she was in an immediate hurry to reach her friends, now playing behind us. At hole 2, we were held up for several minutes while friends and cart girl chatted it up. When approached, they claimed that the group in front of them was still teeing off on #3. Even though they themselves had still not completed hole #2. We were instructed to pass them at that point.

Overall good experience. Bev cart is a tiny element to the golf experience, but it did keep this rating from a perfect 5. Will play here again.

This is a shorter course and some drivable par 4's but it plays well. Had a great time and fairways and greens are well taken care of.

It was a pleasure being a golfer at this site. Treated well and they really cared to make sure you were hydrated with waters for everyone and coolers with ice filled and towels to keep cool by dipping in the ice water.

How about some water and better service.

For a resort, Troon managed course, I expect more. They give you two bottles of water to start and we only see a cart girl once on each 9. The drinking fountains have warm water and the pace of play was atrocious. 4 hours and nearly 40 minutes is unacceptable in the summer. Very disappointing to say the least.

Beautiful Course

Have played here a few times before - always top notch - the land, facilities and all. This time got to tee off early in AM on a gorgeous Friday - minus humidity. Played the Desert and Canyon - never played the Desert nine. Definitely the best combo of the three. Course was in amazing shape - Canyon to me is still most challenging slightly over the Desert - to each their own though. Cart girl was cool, and decently frequent. Only complaint, no water jugs/coolers anywhere - huge bummer and almost needed in AZ summers. Other courses that have it - have a leg up. But that is only flaw in my mind. On both those courses, you make your way up around the mountain in various ways, and see awesome views of the city. Will forever be a player here - now get the water coolers!!!

Tricky layout...

Lived in Az for 30+ years and it was the first time playing the Phoenician. Fun course good conditions greens were ok,not very fast but everything does break away from camelback MTN if u have the opportunity to fore caddie some of the blind holes it's worth it. Pace of play was excellent but the day we played it was very humid out and being so close to the MTN there was no breeze to make it comfortable.
