Hillcrest Golf Club possesses a championship length course that offers a great variety of game options with five sets of tees. The course has a traditional design that features open fairways lined with trees, which put a premium on straight shots. The greens vary greatly with some that are relatively flat and medium sized and others that are quite large and dramatically sloped or multi-tiered. In addition to several sand bunkers, water hazards in the forms of lakes and ponds come into play. The signature hole is the par-5 13th, which has been touted by the Phoenix Gazette as being on of the best holes in the state. Hillcrest Golf Club not only has a dogleg around a lake, the hole requires an approach shot uphill to a green that is guarded by eight bunkers.

Hillcrest poor shape over time

Hillcrest used to be one of my favorite courses to play at a good price. Over the years it has become just decent. The greens and fairways are in okay shape, but the rest of the course is in pretty poor shape. The rough is not taken care of or groomed, and the sand or traps have no sand and even more rocks and pebbles. I hope they can really build it back to the pristine course that we golfed years ago. I would gladly pay a little more.

Pink Jeep tour

Best part of the course were the greens. They were in good shape. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Course was in good shape for middle of July. The most noticeable issue were the cart paths. There were so many holes and bumps when there was a cart path I swear my back took a beating like I was on a pink jeep tour up north.

One time I hit so many bumps I lost a head cover from my driver. Other than that it was fine

Under repair

I've played this course several times, but this was by far the worst condition I've seen the course. There are several areas that were roped off due to reseeding so you have to drive several yards around to get back to the fairway. The areas you have to drive through were flooded and had turned into a mudbog. The grass in the fairways was spotty as well as some of the greens. The staff has always been very kind, but I will not be back for a while. I like the course layout, so I'm hoping they will get the course back in shape soon....

I have always enjoyed Hillcrest golf course. I was shocked at what great shape it was in at this time of year… Tea boxes, and greens were both in fantastic shape. Fairways were under repair but overall also in great shape. I will take friends here anytime!

This used to be a very nice course but now the grass is dead or dying, cart paths are indistinguishable, no course layout on tee box and I could go on. I was surprised that we were about the only ones playing until I got a first hand look of the property.

Getting Better

Hillcrest is improving. They still need to put in a cart path for each hole from tee box to green. A lot of the damage that has been done on the course is due to not having a cart path. People drive wherever they want.
