Rating 72.7

Hillcrest Golf Club possesses a championship length course that offers a great variety of game options with five sets of tees. The course has a traditional design that features open fairways lined with trees, which put a premium on straight shots. The greens vary greatly with some that are relatively flat and medium sized and others that are quite large and dramatically sloped or multi-tiered. In addition to several sand bunkers, water hazards in the forms of lakes and ponds come into play. The signature hole is the par-5 13th, which has been touted by the Phoenix Gazette as being on of the best holes in the state. Hillcrest Golf Club not only has a dogleg around a lake, the hole requires an approach shot uphill to a green that is guarded by eight bunkers.

Driving range!

I had a great time play this track. Everything about this golf course is good except driving range. They have you hitting off of mats instead of real grass and when you hit your golf ball on these mats, the mats move and you can’t really swing well. My only thing is if you’re playing on real grass you should be hitting off of real grass in the driving range or at least have the mats pinned down to where they won’t move.

Why don’t men let a woman play through????

Could have finished 1/2 he earlier at least. A foursome. And I’m a single and waited 5-10 min on every tee box on the back nine. Course is ‘meh’. Staff is ‘meh’. 2nd tim Playing here. Don’t think I’ll be bacon. Coyote lakes so much more Fun and friendly. Not worth it even with the GP deal.

greens are rock hard.

Parts of the course are greatly improved. Pace is not one of those things. Having 3 groups waiting on the par 3's is just painful. We waited on every shot and every hole every time. The greens are hard and unreceptive. The ball just rolls to the back of the green regardless of where it lands. Some of the fairways are in good shape, but others not so much. Any of the fairways which are sloped will give you a bad bounce towards the hazards and there is mostly hard packed dirt all the way to the hazard so nothing will stop the ball from entering.

Dissapointed

The course was not in good condition at all. The cart paths were basically non-existent, and if there was one it was gravel or very bumpy cement.

Improved fairways

The fairways and tee boxes have improved. There is still a lot of hardpan out there, but the fairways are improving. You will still get these weird hardpan bounces towards the hazards for no apparent reason and there is no transition from fairway to dirt. The fairway just stops randomly and hardpan dirt takes over. The greens are still hard as a rock and the ball will bounce off or roll to the back. The putting surface was pretty smooth, but very fast. There are a LOT of dead trees throughout the property. These along with the overgrown trees need to be cleaned up or removed. The cart paths have huge pot holes, There are ruts crisscrossing the fairways. It looks like maybe they were putting in drainage or irrigation but poorly filled in the trenches afterwards. Pace of play was slow, very slow at first. We were on track for a 5 hour round. After the turn it Yo-Yo'd for awhile but finally sped up a bit. We finished at a little over 4 1/2 hours. The was no ranger/marshal to keep pace.
