Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
About
The Catalina Course is one of two golf courses at Omni Tucson National Resort. It is more well known than its sister course, the Sonoran, since it is both the original layout and it has been host to over 30 PGA Tour events over the years. The Catalina Course is a traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran offers true desert golf, as its name would imply. The challenging design incorporates eight sparkling lakes and a total of 80 bunkers strategically placed throughout. The 18th is touted as one of the finest and most demanding finishing holes on the PGA Tour. This tricky par 4 leaves little room for error with water along both sides of the fairway, it also requires a blind tee shot to a well-protected, elevated green.

#16 plays fairly steeply uphill. I was 16 inches for a birdie, after hitting a solid 135 club from 109 out. Photo submitted by Jonathan5270953 on 08/14/2013

Great fairways and fast well kept greens
We signed up for a Saturday shotgun start at 1 pm for the Sonoran course. We got there an hour and half early to try out the practice facilities. Excellent driving range, putting and chipping areas. The staff was great from check in to handing out cold wet towels to keep us cool during the round. The course was in great shape. The fairways were lush and cut just right. There are plenty of bunkers to work on your sandies. I had difficulty putting due to the speed of the highly manicured greens. I will need to go back as soon as possible to work on leaning how to play on pro level greens. We had a great time and I would recommend the course and resort to anyone.
Fantastic golf course ; target golf , each hole is specific
Hilly golf course with great view . Very interesting course.
Challenging due to not flat. A perfect day for golf
One of top courses in Tucson.
This course is for my money the best course in Tucson. I just love playing here and the course is always in great condition. Not to mention the practice facilities which are the best. I will be back many more times.
Never disappointed here!!
As always Tucson Omni National is in great shape and one of the top 5 in terms of Tucson playing conditions. Fairways were well maintained, although greens were a little slow. Maybe a little bit of that was rain induced, but they were a furry.
Staff was great and beverage cart service was phenomenal. We must have seen her at least 4x.
I'll be back soon!
The course was in good shape and the price was awesome $20.00 a person was thx I don't know if I would of play this course however saw the special
People where very friendly and professional. the course was in great shape. I have never played here so I was glad to see the special on this website to come and try it out. Getting married in oct. 26th so I am looking for a place to play golf with my buddies before the big day. This might be the place we will see thx for a great day of golf.
The greens needed attention. Bunkers and fairways were excellent.
The value was outstanding! Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Staff extremely helpful and challenging course
The staff went out of their way to locate the brand new head cover the wind stole from my cart. It was located with a following group. The staff made us feel welcome and at home. The course was challenging and made the player plan the approach. Worth the two hour trip there to play.
Very nice traditional course.
Great value thru "Golf Now" and staff was friendly. All amenities.
Greens still showing the effects of aeration.
Resort experience without major house issues
I am fairly inconsistent off the tee, so I am always nervous when playing a resort course. I was glad that many of the holes where I needed to hit a long club off the tee, that the danger of losing a ball OB to a backyard was low. I worry less about the strokes lost than about breaking a tile or a window (or hitting a resident who is probably reading a book about anger management).
My experience was great, and the blue tees were sufficiently more difficult without just adding more distance. Basically playing back requires more strategy about carries and angles than just being 40 yards longer and having a longer iron for approach.
Disappointed in course conditions.
Not notified that greens were recently aerated. Fairways sparce and rough cut numerous times and dead grass not cleared. Have been playing TN for about 20 years and the worst shape we've ever seen. At the turn, were informed that members were starting at #10. No starter. No score cards. Skipped two holes due to slow play in front of us. (no rangers).
Great value for the money and fun.
For the first time playing this course I was a little worried if I could manage it in a decent fashion but there were no problems. The course is layed out beautifly and we had a great time. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the cart girl was great also. The greens had been airiated but still rolled ok. Even though there were some thin spots in some of the fairways, all in all, they were in great shape. We usally play the courses in the Green Valley area and around which is always pretty good but playing this course was a special treat and we will definity be coming back.
The greens were recently plugged and a little rough. This is to be expected.
I have played the course several times in the past and always enjoy the experience.
A nice traditional layout in the middle of Tucson.
The Catalina at Tucson National is more of a tradtional style course. A welcome break from time to time, as we are deluged by desert target courses here in AZ. The conditions here are always good to excellent. The greens are not too punishing with speed or break. There is plenty of tree trouble available, which is not something you can say about too many AZ courses. Overall, a good play for all levels.
Peak of summer, Catalina was hurting, but superb relative to other Tucson courses
Although the grass was a bit burnt in places, I thought the conditions were still excellent considering the time of year. I was very impressed with the greens, they were amazingly smooth and fast, which made it tough to put on, but at least they rolled true. Putting error was all user based rather than because of the conditions of the greens. Greens were also soft and accepted approach shots from 200+ quite easily. Amenities were great. Service was excellent. Catalina is a forgiving course, being a traditional style course with many fairways adjacent to one another. I will be back to play Sonoran.
Good shape
Course was in pretty good shape, a little soggy and the greens were sandy.
Lush lawns!
The grass overall, was in great summer condition. Reminded me of a midwestern course. A bit more narrow fairways that have trees lining them. Not a typical desert course.
Played the Sonoran Course
Typical desert course. Challenging but fair for high handicappers
very unique holes make this course a fun course to play
had played the Catalina course early in the week and this course was a real treat, especially hole number 15. Desert course at it's best.
Staff could be friendlier
Great course; tough unless you are a long hitter. Women do not get much of a break from tee box. Starter did not introduce us to our fellow players; did not let us know re cart path only holes; location of drinking water (desert course). Obviously the man did not want to be there. Course was not crowded but we were paired up with two guys who seemed unhappy about playing with a couple. This was the only resort in tucson where this occurred, and we played Skyline CC, Ventana and other top courses. That would make us thnk twice about comg back.
Great Course
First time playing here. I am not a great golfer but I had a blast. Course was in great shape, well maintained fairways and greens rolled flawlessly. Staff was super friendly. I will definitely be back
