El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
About
The Canada Course plays through forests of mesquite trees, offering a parkland atmosphere amongst a desert landscape. The natural terrain snakes through ravines and arroyos, providing several natural hazards. Considerable mounding, doglegs and elevation changes provide a varied layout, making club selection an important factor in addition to careful strategy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag. The course’s signature hole is the eighth hole, considered one of the toughest par 3s in Tucson. The hole requires players to drive the ball uphill along a narrow ridge between two Saguaro cacti, and canyons border the greens on both sides.

Nice 4th
Great course in very good condition greens hold well aeration is almost gone pace was not bad just don't have miss hits I will be back again
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon. Happy Golfing!
The course desparately needs moisture...
This was the first time I have played La Canada in almost a year. The course is very dry, the Monsoon has not kicked in yet but is certainly overdue. The fairways are scalped and firm and the greens are slow and bumpy. Both of these issues should be resolved once we get some serious rain but until then conditions could be a lot better.
The three of us played in just under three hours, walk up and hit like God intended. There is no water for consumption on the course and this being the desert in summer that is absurd. Saw the cart girl once and bought two bottles of water but there is no excuse {even Covid-19} for not having drinking water available.
The layout of the course is such that you do not come back to the clubhouse after 9. Be advised, bring whatever you want fo consume or be prepared to do without.

Take a pass on this course
Played as a 4some this morning. Have played here numerous times over many years. This was the worst condition I've ever seen the course. Partially due to recent aeration but fairways and tees had minimal grass and course poorly maintained. Possibly due to change (or pending change) from Troon Maintenance to Billy Casper maint. Regardless, will not return as there are many other Tucson options in better condition. Driving range hitting off mats which is also a detriment.
Needs more grass
Rode the Blacks (6636/72.0/133) in 3H, 15M mid day. Clear, slight breeze and around 105.
The routing is bizarre, I got lost twice. You play 3-4 holes, then you travel 1/4 mile plus through streets or residential neighborhoods. I have never played a course more spread out. Lots of elevated tee shots as many holes play downhill. Many holes turn, so local knowledge would assist. The combination of constantly downhill and hardpan made for some ridiculously long drives. I have over 300 rounds in my Arccos tracking system and beat my previous long drive by almost 25 yards. I was pin high on a 547 yard par 5 with a driver and 5 iron?
The turf conditions were poor across the board. And unfortunately I did not get the impression that they recently went downhill with the summer heat. Calling this course rough around the edges is insulting rough around the edges.
All grass areas from tees, rough and fairways were thin Bermuda mixed with hardpan. Traps were not in good shape, and you could tell by looking at the edges that attention to detail is not a priority here. Greens were still recovering from aeration and were bumpy and medium slow.
I did not have high expectations for $20 after reading some of the prior reviews. What is really strange is that I had almost double my average of par or better holes. I played really well for the most part and still have little desire to play here again unless the turf conditions were CLEARLY substantially better than I encountered. Could not recommend, too many really good courses within a few miles.
This course will be better in a few months
The complete course has been aerated and sanded to include the greens. Still it was a joy to play.
Terrific golf course in Oro Valley
With the coronavirus situation, they handled it beautifully. .You have no contact with anyone. Pay on line or over the phone, drop your clubs off by the carts and drive your own cart. They space players far enough you aren't ever on the same hole as other players. The weather is beautiful and it felt safer than even going to a grocery store. Thank you for doing a great job!
Love this course
OV did great buying this golf course. It’s in really good shape. Pace of play is great.
Really enjoy playing there.
Lovely course and day in the midst of COVID-19
We had another lovely day. While maintaining required distances, out in fresh air and the course management made accommodations to restrict contact with personnel and course elements (sand trap takes, ball washers and flags).
Boro Boy
Course was in pretty good condition with the exception of a few greens, which were not horrible, but had some winter kill. Overall I was satisfied with the course and the value.
Great Day
Great challenge with course conditions excellent. Cool overcast day but loved the course
Splendid Day On Canada Course
Our hosts at El Conquistador took great care of us. We were able to get around the course in less than four hours on a Saturday during peak season, despite it being a very busy day. 70 degrees and brilliant sunshine, and we had a blast!
A Course That Requires Orienteering Skills
I got to play the Canada course for the first time with 2 snowbirds who had played it once before. The starter Bob was a wealth of knowledge about putting and strategy, but his key tip was to watch the signs carefully or we would end up lost. The course winds through a couple of neighborhoods, some more empty areas, past a strip mall and alongside and over some busy roads. The disjointed layout features a variety of holes with several elevation changes. Challenges abound on many holes and golfers need to favor or work the ball to specific areas. Conditions are pretty good, but a few greens had some wear from mowers. The good greens rolled true and at a decent speed, We played the round in 4:05, even though we had covered over 8 miles in our carts. I enjoyed myself at EC, but I could see where first timers might get discouraged by all that it throws at you. Give it a fair chance and you might very well like it.
