Best course in the city
Enjoyable layout and in good condition for winter play. Greens roll true and are fast. All staff very friendly.
Good shape
Just like Dell Urich, Randolph North is in pretty darn good shape. Munis get a bad rap and a lot deserve it. Randolph North is a fun course with not a ton of trouble. There are some really good holes on this course. Would play it again.
Randolph North
I have waited to play Randolph north until a cheap hot deal came up. I was pleasantly surprised by this track. Fun and engaging design. I really enjoyed the par 5s and the palm trees everywhere. It’s a good change from the difficult desert golf of Tucson. Greens were absolutely awesome for a muni too. Will play again!
A Snail Goes Faster
The course was in great shape but unfortunately there were some golfers who did not learn the most important rule in golf which is "Keep up with the group in front of you." After 10 holes and with two groups waiting on the 11th tee, I drove to see if there was a gap. There was no one on #13 or #14 but the group in front was on the green of #15. The group on #12 was 1/3 of the way down the fairway and rough. There is no excuse for being this far behind and causing a round to take over 5 hours to play. It takes the enjoyment out of the game. A game of golf should be played at the pace of a brisk walk. Not every putt needs to be marked and wait for everyone to put out in order of distance from the hole each time. Once one starts to putt, continue until finished. When finished, a brisk walk to the cart and off to the next hole. When you get to your ball in the fairway or rough, start getting ready to hit immediately and if you're not in anyone's way, go ahead and hit to the green. A round of golf can actually be played in 3 hours 15 minutes or less with all 4 golfers which is accomplished in many other countries such as New Zealand, Australia and Argentina. Other than that, I love the city courses and play them all many times over the winter.
Unacceptably Slow
Course fine, greens putt quickly (especially downhill), green overseeded fairways, rough dormant and thick. Watch shots closely or can be lost just off fairways.
Bunkers ok, wet, shots will “bottom out” due compaction.
The course simply plays too slow, apparently has too many groups playing at too slow a pace. Lost balls in rough contribute to this, but rhythm of the round is gone and the waiting game is all that’s left. Too bad, the course itself is fun, decently challenging, and employees are friendly and efficient.
No real answer to slow play pace as trying to be as profitable as possible will see this situation continue. Just be prepared.
Very cool and breezy day, but a great experience. Really enjoy the course.
