About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Course is in the best shape it has been in 3 years. Well maintained and easy to get on to play. Strongly recommend those who played it when it was a bad to come back and try it again, u won't be sorry.
Not what I am told
Played this course on July 28. Got a good deal on the fee. I would not have played the course if the person had told me the "real" condition of the course. He said that the course was in good condition. I guess his definition of good condition is different than mine. The fairways were 50 % bare and the parts that were grass were very thin. I know courses are scrambling for business, but at least be truthful.
NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE
THE COUSE WAS PRETTY DRY AND HARD WHICH MADE CONTROLLING the ball in the fairway very difficult. Its a shame because this track used to be one of the best in tucson!! Third time played in 2 yrs and I keep hoping its going to get better.....
Fantastic value
My first time playing this fine course. Gotta say, it was one of the BEST values I have EVER experienced as a golfer of over 20 years. I was impressed with the course in general- it was in very good shape, and the greens were fast.
The guy in the shop GAVE me a great course guide, but even with it, there were a lot of blind shots/drives. I birdied the "Desert Island" hole, which was listed as #1 handicapped hole, so my favorite. Lost a few balls, but found a some too. This is "Desert target golf", so be prepared to be accurate. Even after some rains, it seemed to be dry. One only negative was the LAST hole, a par 5, I put two balls into the wash/desert garbage as it is BLIND-( there are TWO par 5's in the last three holes), and I thought they could have a better "finishing hole", which left me with a bad finish.
All-in-all a great value and time on a fine course- I shot 85 for the round, which is good for me.
Always a fun challange
My score should have been better according to the course condition. This was a great short notice tee time. The pro was friendly during checkin. The starter was very courteous getting us paired up and it was nice to see him cruising around the course ensuring our enjoyiment. After the round, it was a pleasure to enjoy a nice lunch on the porch. I used to avoid this course due to its challanging play. The staff and conditions have convinced me to come back again with hopes to play better next time.
Fair conditions
Course was only in fair condition. We played at 12:30 and most of the staff and starter had already left the premisies. The second nine tee to fairway over the desert is too long for a female.
Like playing on concrete
Course is dried out, Fairways and greens are hard as cement. Saw 3 divots all day. Bunkers are hard as a rock, someone stole the sand. This used to be a beautiful course, I don't know what happened !!
Golf Club at Vistoso
Pace of play was horrendous. Group in front of us waited 20 minutes to tee off on the second hole. Complained several times to cart girl. She said every one is complaining and a group has three holes opened in front of them. She indicated that she let them know in club house. There was no ranger on the course.
A visual treat
This may be the best public course for the free amenities, views and lush desert. The course has a great design which lends itself to all levels of golfers. The only problem that comes from summer rates is slow play from golfers who chose to play from tees that are above their level. The course is well maintained, the bunkers have good sand, the greens are lush and the fairways have a good stand of grass.
This course is in great shape and has great features.
I felt very comfortable and enjoyed my round. I witnessed multiple wildlife, including a deer. I would recommend this course to all who are looking for great course conditions and fast play.
great vs. bad
The Course right now is in decent shape and I reserved a tee time for $15. Can't complain about the price. The woman in the pro shop was extremely attractive and helpful. She almost offset the attitude from the cranky starter who could have let us on a little early before sticking us behind two foursomes that played REALLY slow. He seemed to feel slighted that we got on so cheap and seemed intent on making us pay for it. I am reluctant to return.
Very good course
Course was in fairly good shape. Course was not too difficult. The only problem we had was being the first time playing the course and exactly where to hit it.
Day at GCV
Course is in good shape. Fairways patchy in some areas. Greens were great and the rough was low. The round included lunch which was very good. Service was also very good. Great buy for two.
FRUSTRATION GALORE
Suffice it to say.....BRING Lots of Balls with you....and while we found over 20 Lost Balls, we also LOST a few of our own.
Getting better
The golf course is no where near to condition those of us who live in Tucson, this was one of the best public course in AZ, don't know if they will ever bring it back to where it should be.. the condition is average, not bad for the money. Too bad, they would be able to make a lot more money and get a lot more players if they are willing to spend a few extra dollars to maintain the course.
Slow play
A difficult corse for most players. Pace of play is very slow. Some marshall roam the course but do little to speed up play.
Nice facilities and a good mix of holes. GPS or a course map would have been helpful. Niether available. A course you need to play a few times to know where to hit the shots.
Great outing
A wonderful experience. I had my young (19 year old) cousin and his roommate as guests. Both are active marines stationed in Yuma. Lets just say that they sharpened their orienteering skills on the course.
A good time was had by all. Can't wait to play the course again.
Great find
Beautiful golf course. Must play more than once, some holes require previous knowledge
Very friendly and awesome lunch was included
The wild life was a treat
Vistoso
This is a beautiful but deadly course. Almost every hole has a forced carry which makes it really rough for beginning golfers but for Advanced golfers it is a real gem. You need a strong drive and hit the fairways or else you are in serious trouble as I learned the hard way. This course kicked my butt.
