The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Course is coming back from the dead
I've played at Vistoso every year since it was built. Initially it was a very high end ($150.00) ticket, but worth it. Over time it became surrounded by housing and conditions varied until it hit bottom in about 2012. A real shame because it is a great design - every hole different. Now in 2014 it seems on the way back with fees ranging from about $70 to $99 with some good deals. There are some forced carries, but you need to pick the right set of tees. A challenging track - not for beginners.
Too slow, too hard
5 hours in the heat & the course too tough for medium handicap golfers.
Great value
We had an excellent time except backed up a bit. Staff was nice and a great deal with range balls and lunch. Saw a snake but were warned. They ran out of water at the last few holes but I would come back next time I am in town. Thank you.
Bad Marshal
The course was fine, but the marshal was very unprofessional. He was repeatedly pushing our group even though the course clock said we right on time. Because there was a twosome ahead of us and a hole was open, but we did not hold up the group behind us. He harassed our foursome and got us off our game which ruined our round.
I and those in my group will never play this course again!
Great course, great deal!
Only the second time we have played the course and will play it again. A few hole are a bit challenging but not intimidating. We played in April and always looking out for snakes. It is a great course to play.
Always a challenging course
Course in great shape. Was very windy which affected many shots.
Great Pre-Summer Value
This always has been a great layout. Course was in very good shape. All greens were consistent, but could have been faster. Greens would hold well-struck shots. Some thick rough in spots but mostly benign. With the free lunch feature this was an excellent value.
Vistoso Tucson
Course and staff were excellent. Rangers on course kept play moving. Value for lunch , range balls and golf was excellent. I recommend this course to all. Play the tees that suite your handicap.
Excellent Desert Golf
This course is in excellent condition and is playable by everyone regardless of handicap. We all enjoyed all of the wildlife on the course including a Bobcat setting in a sand trap stalking a bird and an entire herd of Javalinas.
Back 9 bear!
First 9 gives the player confidence and then the second 9 really turns the challenge on. Had a great time.
Great value
Very nice golf course, great condition. Lot of variety in the hole layouts. Only a couple that were hard to figure out what to do from tee. Great value for the cost. Very friendly staff and very nice outdoor bar/restaurant with TV's.
took 2 pm. tee time and course was over run with late rush
They have after 1 special daily so had to wait 45 minutes for cart. Then since we were golf now and not there members they pushed us back. Had to wait often.. Had to play last 2 holes in the dark.
Every hole is different
Vistoso is one of my favorite courses in the Tucson area. Do wish they could do something about the speed of play.
Vistoso
Course in great shape, wonderful time. Good pace, makes you think.
Buy some carts
They don't have enough carts - I had to lug my clubs around from the snack bar to the driving range to the putting green and then back to the snack bar. Finally got a cart 5 minutes before my tee time. Not a good way to get ready for a round.
Perfect day at Vistoso
I found the course and staff were very nice. The best thing you can is " I will play this course again".
Great Course
We've played Vistoso twice this year and last year. Course is in excellent condition, staff is friendly, and professional. This is a tough course with a lot of desert carry for the men----and some for the ladies. If you stay in the fairways, it's not a difficult course! However….there's lots of desert in which to lose balls. It is a beautiful course and very well maintained. Having hole descriptions on the back of the score card would be very helpful. The food and service in the restaurant is good, and the atmosphere is inviting. Play can be slow due to desert challenges. All in all a great experience at Vistoso.
Good and bad experience.
Our foursome consisted of two couples. The women were not beginners but not what you would call accomplished intermediates either. This slowed our pace of play somewhat. We chose to play because of a special that included golf, a lunch, range balls etc. We waited in excess of 1 hour for our lunch with encroached on our starting time. We were required to get our lunch "to go" and eat it while trying to play. Not a good situation. Also there seemed to be a shortage of golf carts and we had to wait some time to acquire one.
Decent course but slow play
Vistoso is in reasonably good shape but the greens have a hard base yet were slow putting. Course is difficult with carries off every tee and plenty of desert on both sides of the fairways.
My major complaint with the course is pace of play. It is always very slow there. We played mid afternoon and yet took over 2 hours to play front nine and the guys I was paired with both quit.
