Chesapeake Golf Club

The weather was great. The course is getting ready for the season. Sand on the greens ,aeration plugs ,A qlot of puddled grass for all the rain we have had. But you have to expect that this time of year. I like the course good lay out , not overly busy compared to a few others in the area.

The staff in the club house was rude

No starter which allowed a group of 6 players to tee off and no marshal on the course

Greens were horrible

The whole course was in bad shape

Well, showed up excited to play a course I’ve never experienced. Started off bad. The driving range grass is worse than my back yard in January and doesn’t allow woods to be used since it’s only 170yds. Chipping and putting area was pretty decent though. Showed up at the tee box at 1040 for a 1052 tee time. There were 6 groups waiting to tee off and no starter orchestrating this disaster. Finally teed off at 1125. Continued to wait 15 minutes or more at nearly every hole. The course layout was actually pretty challenging but fairways were poorly maintained. Greens were average. The worst part of the round occurred on #9 when an irate golfer from the group playing behind me pulled up to the tee box as I was waiting (again) to tee off. He jumped out of his cart screaming obscenities at me. I tried to calm him down but he wouldn’t let it go and eventually his entire group ended up on the ground at the tee box wrestling my driver away from him which he had grabbed off the ground and was attempting to break over his knee. Eventually they got him in the cart and took him home. The entire altercation lasted 20 minutes and I ended up finishing the round after 5.5hrs. During that time not one marshall showed up to check on things. Worst golf experience of my 20 years playing.

While the course is located in a nice area of town and surrounded by an expensive neighborhood, the facilities are extremely disappointing. To start, the actual condition of the course is not worth the $40 I paid to play. It may be the end of November, but the fairways were no better than a course you could play at half the price such as Kempsville or Ocean View. Cart paths were atrocious. The greens are a redeeming factor…for now. This was my second time playing the course and the greens had been improved, but you could tell that they aren’t taken care of. The many small patches of weeds will likely become large patches. Also, no one repairs divots at this course and the super doesn’t take it upon himself either. Tons of dead spots on the greens. The layout is average, a few interesting holes with water or early dog legs, but still nothing you couldn’t get for cheaper elsewhere. Off course facilities are worse than on course. Take my advice, use the bathroom before you leave home because the bathrooms in the club house haven’t been cleaned in months. Also, you don’t return to the club house after 9 so be sure to use the portable toilet on 7. And if you are expecting a beverage cart, be on the lookout for a regular cart with a cooler in the passenger seat. Suffice it to say, this course is not worth your time and money if you are closer to VB or Norfolk courses like I am. And even if you are in Chesapeake, I’d drive a little further to Battlefield. Sure, their off course facilities are modest at best, but their prices reflect it and the course quality itself makes up for the weekend rate. I will say, I’be played Chesapeake’s sister courses (Honeybee and Stumpy Lake) and the quality of their facilities are much higher. Still pricey for what it is? Yes. But better than Chesapeake by far.

I enjoyed plaiying this course and was very reasonably priced.

I live within 5 minutes of this course and have played it 3 - 4 times over the past 2 years. Frankly, each time it seems in worse shape. One can tell that at one point the grasses were very nice. Now, in both the fairways and greens there is crabgrass and other spiney grasses that, especially on the greens, affects play. And sadly, the quality of those playing the course is also eroding. Many fairways are loaded with big divots and greens are plagued with un-repaired ball marks. I didn't enter the grill so can't comment on it.

Enjoyed the course with friends. Wasn’t too busy and was able to have a stress free round. Will be coming back!

1015 time didn’t start until 1050 a lot of singles that should have been paired up with a starter

Whole course is overgrown, has invasive grass all over the place, weird mix of very hard holes and very easy holes, some fairways have over-hanging branches cutting off half the fairway, huge ponds on short holes where your drives would land forcing instead a short lay-up drive and long second shot, untrained staff couldn’t find TeeOff reservation on computer, cart paths are full of pot holes and run dangerously close to ponds, long walks to greens from cart paths, most greens are large and round and slightly sloped but some are really undulating and unfairly narrow and tiny, no 150 yard poles in fairway, bring a gas mask unless you like choking on gas fumes all day long from the cart, lots of street crossings and sometimes you don’t know where to go and sometimes you’re riding in the street with cars for a block to the next tee and through intersections.

Checking in was a breeze. Course played great!

WAAAAY RIGHT

The course itself was not bad. Very narrow. A lot of water hazards which I found challenging and fun. This is a one a done course for me.

Terrible range limited to 8i and under, I got there 45 prior to tee time and could not warm up because the ball dispenser was empty.
