Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Pleasant experience

First time playing this course. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff personnel were super nice. The course layout is a little confusing to first timers, as the path crosses a public street four times. But, if you appear lost, someone will courteously direct you. You can also be surprised by water hazards that cross the fairways at about 230 yds from the tee, (unfortunate for senior short drivers like me). But then, I could have played from the forward tees. I will play the course again later this week. I definitely recommend it.

hit it straight or your dead

very wet conditions, after every shot your ball had mud on it. for a course that was once supposed to be private, it looks like a muni more than ever - weeds in the fairways, hard sand in the bunkers, and the tee boxes were hideous. the only great thing was that the greens were in very good shape, soft and the putts rolled true. other players need to fix ball marks on greens. all that being said, i rode 18 for $ 20.00, can't beat that.

Worth the money, if you get a decent deal.

Chose this course for the price I found along with wanting to try a different course out of my normal chosen few. The pace of play was nice and it wasn't overly crowded by golfers or the surrounding houses as some similar style course would be. If I found a similar deal I would definitely play there again. Lots of water makes things more interesting and a few holes have some serious distance which is nice.

Good course, but waits required

Played this course on a Saturday. It was well maintained and obviously popular because it was crowded. That meant some waiting on the tee box but otherwise the course played well and we had a fun day of golf.

Nice course, good value

The course is in good shape and is fairly challenging - staying in the fairways is critical to shooting a good score. Sand traps aren't great - hard-packed - but that's the only negative I could find. Staff is friendly, but a little lax about managing tee times. No marshal was at the first tee, so it was a bit of free-for-all for groups teeing off. No marshals were on the course, either, but pace of play was reasonable, especially for a holiday.

Course was in pretty good shape

The course was in pretty good shape even though it rained the night before we played. Hole #9 could use some drainage work but all others played well.

Nice course but there are some pretty rough holes in the fairways.

Unusual arrangement in that the tenth hole doesn't start at the club house. You have to play through the twelfth before you get to the club house.
