Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Nice Local Neighborhood Course

Used as a practice course with challenging shot selections on many holes. Staff friendly and main golf surfaces kept well. Stay centered for best time and watch out for the water...try the lay up and long approach once in a while. Sometimes funner to run or fly the ball up to the green from 175-220.

No signs ,markers at tee box to indicate distance to or carry water hazards. No mention on score card either. Would be very helpful.

Great course. Great value

I love playing Chesapeake. If you don't mind playing around houses you'll love this course. Almost every hole has some kind of risk reward decision to make. For example, the 4th hole has a 150 yard layup to water or a 230 water carry off the tee. Two holes later a demanding tee shot to set up a long water carry on a par 5.

This course used to be in fairly poor repair but in the past few years it has been great. The greens were perfect. The rough hang overly punishing and the fairways are a little firm but the grass is consistent.

best value in south hampton roads

This course was in good shape earlier in the year and is now in excellent shape. They do have one bunker on the back nine that is under repair. Otherwise perfect. On a weekday morning at 10:30 we played and never saw anyone in front of us.

Great Course For The Money

Best value in the area. Fairways are thick, greens putt true and hold. You can't beat it for the money, the course, the staff are friendly, courteous and appreciate your business.

This fairway conditions were poor with crabgrass growing all over. Greens were good though and fast.

It was moderate in difficulty.

Great Golf Now Deal

I always play well at this course. There was a major rainstorm a few nights before I played and it was cart path only. But for the most part the course was in good shape. The greens were in excellent shape, putt true and relatively fast. Fairways were plush, but mostly running Bermuda grass. There are two par fives that can be reached in two. Par 70 course with some tricky par threes to make up for the short par 5s. For those who have never played this course, #9 is not at the clubhouse #12 is. Due to the two separate land owners at the time the course was designed.

Nice Course

Course was in fair shape, greens and tee boxes were in good shape but the fairways were pretty rough, lots of ruts (made running around in the cart a rough ride). The front nine is fairly challenging with 3 water holes that are tough if you can't hit a drive or fairway shot longer than 200 yards. Lost 5 balls on the front nine. Back nine is challenging but only has one water hole on it.

I would recommend this course to a friend

The overall condition of the course was good, the staff very friendly and helpful. The only negative I could say was you had to watch where you walked on the greens and fairways because of the geese droppings which were all over the place. I don't know how they could control that but everything else is worth the round of golf. I will be back.

Short and straight

Course is tight with homes lining fairways.
Greens roll faster than they look.
Course attracts slower players and unfortunalty there may be experienced singles/doubles that stifle pace of play.

Enjoyable

Chesapeake is the closest course to my home. Folks are always friendly, the course was in good shape. This was the first round played since I had a heart attack (on another golf course) last November. It was a bit warm very playable. The best part was I shot my lowest round ever and I've played he course alot in the last twelve years. 8 strokes better. You never kow about devil all, Ha!

Water Hazards

Pay close attention to the distance from tee to water hazards. The fairways drop away very quickly with almost no room for your ball to roll off the fairway and stop before getting into the water.

Some Improvement

There wasn't anyone one there to push us to hurry the pace of play. There was no starter to give you course conditions. The fairways could be better maintained with where the course is locatated. There wasn't a clubhouse after the 9th hole, you had to wait until hole 12 for the turn.
