Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
Following a $13 million renovation at this 36-hole former military facility, Black Horse Golf Course was not only dramatically improved, but now comparable to its more revered sister course, Bayonet. Black Horse has long been considered the easier of the two, but that's not exactly a given now with the improvements and lengthening by golf course architect Gene Bates. Its serrated bunkers may be a little easier to get out of than the cavernous craters on Bayonet, and the fairways are little more generous, but Black Horse makes up for it with more undulating and difficult greens. The renovation also opened up the views to Monterey Bay for both courses. Trees were trimmed, and both courses now have an overall cleaner look, especially with the latest bentgrass turf from tee to green.

We continue to appreciate this great local golf course
Great course
Great course, fun challenging layout, beautiful views. One of my favorite places to play.
Bulldozers & construction noise
If you like to play in a construction zone or near lots of houses then these courses are for you. It’s a very different experience now
Good greens but fair tees and fairways
Fairways and tees need work. More grass and consistant waterings.
Why can't the fairways be cut 1/4 inch longer so there can be a grass base to hit from ?? grass around te greens is too short and lies are too tight !
Fun layout
A lot more playable in the later season than previous rounds. The greens were in great condition and would hold an approach shot nicely. No food options on the drink cart was kinda disappointing. The shop welcome was very good. Range is always good.
Black horse conditions
In reasonable shape, greens so much better than bayonet. Some tee boxes manicured as nice as greens. Bunkers have too little sand, club does not dig in and skulling shot a real possibility.
Def worth playing however
great course, beautiful views
Love playing Black Horse when we are visiting the area. The layout is fantastic, the condition is good considering we're finishing a hot summer in California. Also, I found the bunkers consistent which was nice. I gave the staff friendliness a three-star due to the fact the front desk staff elected to charge us a $25 rider fee for my wife but didn't charge the other couple we played a rider fee. Just be consistent, charge everyone or not anyone. It was a slow Wednesday. I still had a great time but didn't buy any swag in the pro shop because of the staff. Thanks.
