Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Pacific Grove Golf Course is Fun

The greens are excellent, not too fast not too slow. Fairways ok especially if you go ahead and bump your lie. A very fun not boring layout and very scenic two very different 9's. One in the forest and lined by homes, one in the sand dunes with magnificent views of the ocean.

Been playing here for 20 years, greens were the best I’ve ever seen. course is as lush as it’s ever been. Playing like a real links course, fairways are firm and roll out.

Beautiful back 9

The front is nothing special, but the back 9 is truly beautiful, with the lighthouse and ocean. The back plays much harder as well, with the wind. Great value, will definitely be back.

Disappointed

No restaurant, no beer, no ice at the moment. Played this track a bunch of time and always loved it. Conditions not good at the moment. Definitely not worth the price.

PGGL Fun Fun Fun

Awesome public course.

The course itself is nicely maintained for a public/municipal course. The greens were fun and challenging. Some were very fast and others seemed to be mid to slow. The overall course layout had plenty of challenges but not so difficult that it made it frustrating. And the back 9 views, awesome!

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately the restaurant is close but I was told around the end of the month a new place would be opening up. So, no beer right now 😉. The pro shop was small but nice. And a nice selection of things if you are in need of anything.

Wildlife all around. Lots of deer, squirrels, and different types of birds. One point of advice, DO NOT leave any type of food out in your cart (wrapped or unwrapped). Make sure it is always zipped in one of your bags pockets or a cooler or container to secure it. A dang crow took off with my trail mix and another tried to get my blueberry muffin. Two of the people I was paired up with had their sandwiches snatched. The squirrels are just as devious and will run through your cart looking for food while your teeing off, 🤣 but they are very friendly.

All in all a beautiful, challenging yet very fun course to play. I truly have to say that my round at PGGL was one of the funnest rounds I have ever played. I really enjoyed it.

I definitely recommend giving it a go and I myself would love to play it again if I am ever back in the area.

Bad timing, I guess.

This is typically a fun course. On March 4th, the greens were in terrible shape. They had just been sanded, and I know that's normal maintenance. But there were literally PILES of sand on the greens, making them extremely difficult to putt. It would not have take much more effort to smooth out the PILES OF SAND on all the greens... I had to do my own "sweeping" to make a few putts, that were definitely going nowhere if I didn't do my own sand maintenance.

One of the best courses I’ve ever played!

From the Played Pacific Grove while in town for the Pro-Am and had an awesome experience. The staff in both the pro shop and snack shack were incredibly friendly and welcoming — made everything smooth from start to finish. Course conditions were great, especially the greens. And wow… the back 9 is unreal — some of the craziest ocean views you’ll find on a public course. A must-play if you’re anywhere near Monterey. Can’t wait to come back! ⛳️🌊
