Nice course but the bunkers are unplayable

The layout is fun, greens are great, pace was good. The bunkers are unplayable. They’re basically just mud clumps. You’re better off taking a one stroke penalty and dropping behind the bunker than trying to play out of them. They’re plentiful around the greens on the back 9 so you’re likely to find one and not have a chance to get up and down.

The rest of the course is a 10 but the bunkers are a zero.

Bath rooms

I have played this course many many times. Good course layout. Not too difficult. Conditions are usually good fair way to green. Price is reasonable. My objection when play here is cart paths which have been repaved little by little which took them a long time. Still there are several area to be repaved. The most problem that I see here is the bathrooms at hole # 4 and #15. I don’t understand why they are so dirty. Looks like they have never been cleaned for months or ever. Probably the manager never really assigned anyone to look after them. Please. Please. Please. It really turns me off. Those pictures are still in my head days after.

Earlytime

Playing in fog with no fun. Trying to find your ball trying to get the moisture off your golf clubs and grips. Perhaps a fog delay would’ve been appropriate.

Very pleasant

One of the things about playing golf in Monterey, is that a mediocre course here is better than most great courses elsewhere. Luna Seca is an excellent course. It has very challenging holes. It’s in good shape. The greens rolled well. It had length, it had target Golf, it had everything that you wanted in a golf course. Sure, the sand traps could have sand instead of dirt, but it wasn’t like they were full of rocks. Laguna Seca is not the Bayonet course at Fort Ord, nor even the Black Horse course, and the driving range could be better, but in my opinion, the golf course is as good if not better than Del Monte or Pacific Grove. And Del Monte does not have a driving range, and the Pacific Grove driving range is a joke. We played in 3 1/2 hours. Not sure if that’s normal or not because it’s the first time I played the course. But I was pleased.

Diamond in the rough

Laguna Seca Ranch golf club is a hidden gem of the Carmel Valley. The layout is partial target golf and partial wide open golf so it allows you to utilize (or in my case have tough decisions!) all of your skills. The friendly staff are eager to offer assistance, the driving range is equally scenic and useful. For a long time beginner golfer like me, I enjoy the challenge, vibe, and overall atmosphere of the course and its amenities. I am in the area weekly and hopefully my schedule will allow me to carve out some time to visit often, maybe even improve my game? One can always dream!🤣

Laguna good value for the money

I haven’t played Laguna in a while with all the great choices in the Monterey area. I often forget about it, but it’s solid. Course is doing some renovation on traps, but greens are not bad. Course layout is always fun pace a play not too bad afternoon is the best value to go

Great ambience

Very friendly staff and fellow golfers. The course is quite picturesque, with the slopes and offshore winds posing a good challenge to the average golfer. On the downside, tye bunkers were in very poor conditions, and water play is very minimal, towards the end of the back nine.

Laguna Seca. Plan Accordingly.

If you’re out of town, make sure there’s no car or bike weekend. The traffic is endless and nonstop throughout the day.

As far as the golf course goes, it’s very fair in distance. But it has some of the tightness fairways. The dog legs are very pronounced and the hilly terrain is above average.

Be in good shape if you plan to walk. We carted and I was pretty spent. The tee boxes are ok. I didn’t have to tee with the ball above my feet much as a lefty. But I recommend using an app that maps out the course if you haven’t played it before. Overall, it was a great experience and the bar food was great for the price!

Fun and challenging

Love this course! The double cross on 15 is my nemesis and I did hit it into the gully on my second shot but hit a solid fourth and fifth onto the green. Ended with a double bogey which is fine. I ended one over bogey golf which is good for me. The course was in good condition. Play went smoothly even though it was busy. Had to wait a little bit for a cart in the beginning but still got off ahead of time.
