First time to play
Greens had been plugged recently so greens were w little difficult. Excellent lay out ,very challenging. Can't wait to play again.
Greens just been aerified
Just opened back up because they were closed for maintenance. Greens were aerated. Not worth $45 right now. You can play courses in better shape for less. Come back here in a month when you’ll get your moneys worth.
Terrible greens.
Most of the greens are in bad shape. Which is not how I last remembered the course from a month ago. The prices are the same though.
It's a shame that courses in the area still want to charge high prices and not offer a half way decent course to play on, Greenfield has joined that list and may very well be leading the pack.
My advice is to stay away for a month, maybe the course will do a 180 and start heading back towards being in better shape.
#16 has always been a obnoxious par 4, that I love to hate. A well placed teeshot is necessary to get a sniff at par.
Fun course
Design of the course is nice. Staff was friendly. Tee boxes and fairways are in good shape. The greens are suffering right now though.
Greens were rough
Course was in fairly good shape. The tee boxes were cut good and fairways nice. Some of the bunkers were not done because of all the rain. Greens were in really rough shape, seemed to maybe have a fungus but there were a lot of rough patches and the ball did not roll well at all.
Public course you go to when you just want to get a round in.
The greens were bumpy and patchy with foreign grasses growing in the middle. The fairways were patchy, a lot of times playing from dirt. My wife wanted to play and she didn't want to waste money going to University or Azario when she hardly plays. If your serious about your scores and your game you may want to chose a more well maintained golf course.
For anyone else reading this, we overseed our fairways and greens in the winter due to the popularity of or course and it’s great value. This winter rye grass will die in May each year, which is what we are currently experiencing. It’s referred to as “transition” as we are now growing in our summer Bermuda grass. The crew is doing a great job, considering we have had zero rain this month. RIver Club has one of the best layouts in town, and is by far the best value golf course. Well known for not charging abusive rates in winter, and also having the friendliest staff in town.
Why can't they figure out the greens here
This course must be built on a toxic waste dump or there are diseased Z.O.G.bot grass goblins living under the greens because they keep getting worse each summer I play, or they just don't give a hoot about putting money into them in the low season, to say nothing of the drought of course. But private courses seem to manage it.
The majority of the greens are essentially unputtable and it's maddening for a good player wanting to score.
While the greens are some of the very worst in the area right now for a championship level track, the course layout has always been great.
You can play Bent Tree or Wellen Park for <30 and have a much more normal experience, although Bent Tree's greens are waning already too... It's just the sad state of low end public golf in Florida summers. I'll still play here once a month for the ball striking challenge and nice jaunt around the course. Robb is a great hire.
Each year at this time we transition from winter rye grass to Bermuda. It’s never pretty. We will be aerifying next week, and the course will be in our normal great shape when they recover. There has been no shortage of investment in this course since new ownership has come in 5 years ago. And yes, some rain would help tremendously.
Cheap, you get what you pay for.
Proshop staff was very friendly, pace of play was horrible, I was told there was no ranger out there today. It took us five hours and approximately 15 minutes to finish our round. After coming into the clubhouse, we were looking forward to a nice cold beverage. It took over 15 minutes to even get to the front of the line and we were told to pay for our meal & drink right at the same time before we even had our meal, very strange. There was a younger kid behind the bar that didn’t know what he was doing (must have been his first day on the job). I’m glad the Proshop staff helped out during the lunch rush. However, I usually order 2 to 4 beers and I was asked to put them on my check to make it easier for me but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stay for my 2 to 4 beers. If I wanted another one, I had to not only pay for it separately, but pay without cash. Apparently they won’t accept cash. I have played here quite a few times, and the grass is in horrible conditions, compared to November and December. I used to feel like I got a great bang for my buck but the service is horrible. I see a new face every few weeks either carts or bar staff. Looks like poor management when there is turnover in almost all areas, cart staff, bar staff very frequently. I am not a fan of the heavier side man with glasses; behind the bar and sometimes works in the proshop. Using the phrase “step into my office”. Unsure of his name.
Both of our courses are going through transition right now. The winter grass is fading out and the summer Bermuda grass is emerging. Not sure what reviewer is talking about. Our cart staff has been in place for years, and are all great guys. As far as the bar is concerned, you can order whatever you want, pay for it and it is haded to you by friendly staff. Like every other bar on earth. Please see other reviews for a better understanding of our course. Friendliness everywhere, and the best deal in town from a pricing standpoint.
Course continues to improve
I have played the River Club course for several years. I always liked the layout which gives all levels of golfers a challenge. The condition oh the course had deteriorated over the years leading up to Covid to the point that I had considered not playing it again. The club house and other amenities fell way off. During the past 3 years they have worked hard to reverse the course conditions and the amenities. They still are working and it shows. I believe the average golfer would find it enjoyable, the greens putt true and I good shape. I will be back in the area and will look forward to play this course again.
I am not sure what course you are reviewing. You put the review under The River Club, but make negative comments about Greenfield Plantation. Both of these courses were recently aerated and are recovering. Summer maintenance of the greens is necessary to maintain a great playing experience. As for our pricing, it is always the best in town for a non municipal course, especially in season when things get very expensive. You have been leaving bad reviews for nearly every course in town for as long as anyone can remember. It’s hard to take you seriously.
