River Club is a popular Ron Garl-designed golf course famous for its unique moundings and positioning of grass and pot bunkers. Front nine are open with all elevated greens. River Club's back nine at are cut into the woods. There is water on 16 holes.

Great Course in Lakewood Ranch!
Their greens are great and the staff were very friendly! I’ll be back again soon.
Unacceptably Slow
We have enjoyed this course over the years and were looking forward to playing again. Our tee was 1.16 - we eventually left about 1.30 and by 4pm had only just managed 8 holes. Really?!! It wasn’t because players were slow, but just too many sold tee times. There was no way we could play 18 holes and returned to the pro shop but they refused to refund half our fee as requested. We were offered a rain check which we couldn’t use.
A small financial gesture would have made us happy, but nothing. Such a shame.
Poor Golf Management
I would really like to give The River Club a better review because the course itself is in great condition and fun to play…the Big BUT is it is poorly managed…the tee times are always 1 to 2 hours behind on the weekdays…Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays mornings are always 1 to 2 hours behind due to league play over scheduling. Today was a prime example…we had a tee time for 9:56 am…we arrived and paid…at 9:50 am, a group of 7 foursomes were still waiting to tee off from their 9:06 tee times…that would put us close to an hour behind our tee time of 9:56 am….apparently this goes on most mornings, and it has happened to us before too…we asked for a credit and headed home disappointed, again. The Management doesn’t seem to care about this because they haven’t corrected it. To bad…they have lost us.
Follow up: I reached out to the owner via email. His response was fair and he acknowledged our disappointment in a starting well past our tee time on 12-28-2021. We have scheduled a tee time for next week…we very much enjoy playing at The River Club, the staff is very friendly and they work hard to keep the course in great shape.
This is Tony the owner. I understand that you had a slow round yesterday but we were not over sold, and we were not running 1-2 hours behind yesterday. We had 230 total players for the day which was the same as my other course and we had zero complaints. We did have some slow players out there and the ranger did not show up for his shift. Not Golf Now friendly
Finished just as the sun set. Would not allow any check in prior to designated time. Won't return.
When you buy the Hot Deal from Golf Now, their tee time is at 1:30 PM. Golf now keeps 100% of your money, and this is the tee time they control. We have nothing to do with it . We can’t allow you to jump ahead of our paying customers, That wouldn’t be fair. To solve the problem, book directly with the course like everyone else does. you can tee off earlier for pretty much the same price, and enjoy yourself without having to rush. Thanks. Tony
Good track.
Course conditions were good. The new grass was growing in well. The grass under the trees was somewhat sparse, which was expected. There was a backup on the last six holes, couldn't complete before darkness.
Terrible Customer Service!
Had a tee time scheduled for 1:24 for 3 of us. The single who had the same time asked to play ahead of us and was granted permission. We tee off and as we are leaving the tee boxes, the employee asked if I was alone and since I was, paired us up with someone as we were driving away….
Cart was in poor condition as brakes really didn’t work. As we were playing the first hole the ranger allowed a twosome to skip ahead of us to the next hole, slowing play. Employees had poor attitude and will likely never play here again.
When you buy a hot deal, you will be playing as a foursome as per Golf Now’s policy. The single golfer had your tee time and was not sent out ahead of you. You were paired on the first hole. As a hot deal customer 100% of your fees go to golf now, and 0 to the course. This is their tee time. You should really leave this negative review for golf now and not the course. We have nothing to do with hot deals. We simply have to send people off at their tee times, and we had other tee times behind you that needed to go off on time. Tony.
The course is challenging, especially from the back. Conditions were ok, but wet in a number of spots which may have been from sprinklers for the rye over seeding. We will be back...

I’m sorry you had a bad experience. We were not over sold. There was slow play out there and our ranger did not show up for his shift. My apologies. We are committed to 4 hour rounds. This is Tony the course owner. First, i apologize for you being 15 minutes late. We were NOT oversold, and we DID have slow play. This is not uncommon during holiday week, as many once a year golfers get out on course with family. We did not do a good job from a ranger standpoint and I apologize for that. We had MORE players at my other course Greenfield Plantation and ZERO complaints.
