The River Club

I have played this course many times with course conditions being as one would expect from the tickled Florida weather. The true gem of this course is its staff. This has been a tough year during COVID for all courses and the River Club has earned a lot of golfers business through impeccable service that most high end country clubs in the area can learn from. From the moment you drive up to the bag drop and are welcomed by Ross and Reed to entering the Pro shop with Joe behind the counter accommodating everyone with a warm personality to Barbara at the half-way house with her great bratwursts and bubbly personality, I only wish the club would keep it open after June.

I can choose to play many courses in the area but the River Club has earned my “ go to” when I want to bring guests for a very good time. Well done River Club and staff.

Great course to play with a great layout, a couple greens are a little shaggy but other than that very nice course. Awful customer service but when you know that going in you can block it out and just enjoy your round.

Kinda in rough shape from the greens, green comp-lexes/surrounds, and some tees. Fairways not too bad. A lot of the rough is a little too rough.

The layout/design is good, though a little narrow in a lot places and course knowledge is helpful to avoid blind shot mis-haps and running through fairways etc.

I suggest you play lift clean and place onto good lies throughout the course, and just move your ball on the green wherever you need to to avoid damage and you can have a nice round. The greens are far from good, but today none of my missed putts were due to the greens; anytime I hit a good putt, it rolled true enough and went in.

The staff is very nice. They have a cool sunken bar.

My in-cart GPS wasn't responding properly to my touch location; I forgot to mention that to staff after the round.

If you can deal with the weather, the afternoon rates are a reasonable value. Mid-week, mid-afternoon pace was excellent.

Overbooked and a scramble on the same morning.... Show up at scheduled time waiting for first tee and "members" go right in front of us. After about 15 minutes of waiting, we were told to start on hole 5. Moved along well until getting behind players in the scramble. After finishing 18, we were told we can't play 1 through 4 and to ask for a raincheck. Finally, couldn't issue a raincheck because I booked through Golfnow. The lack of communication regarding everything is unexcusable.

The course is nice and challenging. The greens are in rough shape for the most part.

Negatives:

Course conditions. Especially 17th green.

Pace of play. Need ranger to maintain pace.

New owner Tony should be commended for bringing this course around. Great course for all skill levels

Greens are extremely bumpy. Many of them missing grass. Course overall needs TLC.

I used to play here a lot when they where the place to play. They were horribly rude at that time but I loved the course and put up with it.

Service is great now but the course is in horrible condition. Grass burnt out, some greens were really bad with sand all over it. I didn’t mind that they were just done after season, but....

Carts beep every single green to stay on the path, while you are on the path, very annoying. Regular carts don’t have GPS. So six of one and a half dozen of the other.

Course has a nice layout, just needs TLC. One of those middle of the road courses.
