Golfer Reviews
Great course
First time playing @ Black Bear. Very nice course . Very well maintained, super nice people especially the owner. Will definitely be looking into playing there again .
Needs work
Have played there many times actually had a couple of golf tournaments I put together there, The course has been going down hill for a few years now, They use to have the best practice facility around, but even that is not what it use to be. They are wasting money on Trackman right now instead of putting money into the course where it is needed, the fairways and tee boxes are okay but he greens are terribly slow, the sixth green is nonexistent, I hope this course comes around because it can be fun.
Awesome Track
Course was in great shape.. #6 green is the only blemish on the course. They are installing TrackMan, should be completed mid to end of July. Fun to play. Typical Pete Dye course.
good fairway turf
Fairway turf mostly good. off fairway weedy.
Some greens damaged and patched. Otherwise painfully slow needing cut and rolling.
Fair value to price.
Course Conditions!
I've played the course before the 6th hole was looking great now its a problem all over again. What's the issue with the 6th hole? The course overall wasn't bad most the holes needs rolling grass was a little to thick on the greens. I hope management reads this review there is no water or washrooms on the course. It should be illegal to run a Golf course as hot as Florida gets without having any water or an ice bucket on the cart to put bottles of water in to stay cool and hydrated on the course while playing golf. I hope management will at least put ice bucket on the Golf cart they have "sand" buckets. Where's the ice bucket? It was hot out today had a great "Father's Day" round despite not having an ice bucket on the cart for ice to keep things cold.
Very good local track!!
Have been playing Black Bear for years, it is one of the courses in our rotation that we play. The course is always in good shape, the fairways are very good, the greens are a bit slow right now but I think that is how they are keeping them to try to beat the heat. There is one green though (hole 6) that the course is unable keep for some reason, it currently has no grass on it whatsoever. If they could remedy that and get a hold of the few bad spots on the 2 other holes, I would give this course a 5 star rating. New driving range amenities are almost complete, trac man system going in.
I look forward to playing it every time it’s turn comes up in the rotation.
Was just ok
Course was nice layout and some nice rolling fairways. Greens were very narrow and a bit small. Very slow greens and a little thick. Bunkers were nice.
Greens Could use some work and course could use some water but it’s hot and no rain lately. I could tell they were working on some of the greens trying to get them in shape.
And finally a place where people know golf etiquette and let fast players play through. I didn’t get help up. That was nice.
I didn’t think it’s worth the price. I think it’s a bit overpriced but it was still nice not being help up by slower players or groups.
I will probably play again but water oaks in lady lady is a better course and cheaper just no range.
Green’s are hurting…
I have always enjoyed playing Black Bear. It’s a fair and fun track and the staff has always been friendly and inviting. They always seem appreciative that folks have come out to play their course. That said, the green’s are in trouble. Those that still had their grass (#6 - IYKYK) were super slow (in need of a mow) and many were showing signs of disease. Fairways (for as hot as it’s been) were in pretty good shape…tee boxes too. If they can get the greens under control (some need a total replacement ), I would come back often. New structure going in at the driving range while I’m was there…not sure what it’s going to be, but work is being put into it, just wish they would have started with the greens. 🤞🏼
Challenging course and reasonable proce
We recently played Black Bear Golf Club in Eustis, FL. This Links style course provided lots of challenges for every level player. The conditions were good with wide fairways, challenging bunkers and good greens of all sizes. You could spend extra time there working on your game on their practice facilities. Waiting for Top Tracer to open very soon. The Bear Den Restaurant provided a well-rounded menu with reasonable prices for what you needed during and after your round.
Greens need work
Usually great greens were evidently affected by dry heat. Hole #6 had no grass at all just some green chemical. Hopefully they will get better if there is some rain. Still a challenging course and will play again if the price is right.
Can't recommend course as it is now.
Severe issues/damage with the greens.
This is a course I have played many times over the years and have always enjoyed this course. Sad to say this was the worse condition I have ever seen the greens. Severe damage to the greens & uncut. Everything else was good as usual.
Fun Course
I mostly gave Blackbear an average rating as the greens need some help. I view this as a temporary problem as normally the course is in very good condition. Some of the sandtraps are washed out but there's a local rule where you can take a free drop in the trap no closer to the hole. In many of the traps, the rule is unneceassary. Generally tees and fairways are pretty good. I'll be back.
Fun, Excellent, Value
I played this course on a Saturday afternoon hot deal with my son. It was unpretentious and wide open, and the staff were friendly, and the range was clear. We liked the undulating hills and variety of hole types with lots of bunkers and only one water hole. The sand was soft and manageable and my only negative would be the greens as they were very slow, with one that was in terrible shape, and unplayable. Overall it was an affordable, fun, unique course with an easy pace of play only 45 minutes from Orlando.
Greens are in rough shape.
I got a great deal so I thought I would give it a try. I was really surprised that I was striping on the range and that would carry over to the course. After the first green, I realized that scoring on the greens would be impossible. They were punched several weeks ago, but I would have thought they would be in better shape.
