A little dark, but black bear in a dark tree, hole # 6...appropriate for Black Bear Golf Club! Photo submitted by relivgolfers on 09/29/2013
Great value.
Great value. Course in great condition, especially compared to surrounding public courses. Greens and fairways in nice shape. A few holes with unusual layouts, winding narrow fairways. Pace of play decent. Staff friendliness good, starter- very good.
Great Course
Black Bear has been a favorite. Every time we play the course is always in great condition. Greens are small so short game is a must. Challenging but forgiving all at the same time.
PGA Show Week 2023
Myself and 2 fellow PGA guys took on the course as a last minute booking, good fun and some challenging shots. Acceptable conditions for the price, nothing that will blow you away like a resort-style course, but more than playable. Pace of play wasn't great, no ranger out on course and group ahead of us was pretty slow but we had a good time regardless. If I was a local, I'd play again, but returning to the area next week and will probably look for other challenges. Above average, worth checking out!
Course Not Up To Par
This course is normally a reliable track to be challenging and in great shape. However, course conditions are not as expected, especially for $80 in this area. My group were in agreement that we would not be back any time soon. We chose to have lunch at the clubhouse after the round and suffice to say it was a debacle. Servers were nice but really messed up our order and food took about an hour to come out and then come out correctly.
Terrible conditions
Condition wise this is the worst I have ever seen.
The best lies anywhere to be found on the course may be in the fairways if you are lucky enough your ball didn’t land in the hundreds of unfilled divots. Poa has infested the coarse with the approaches and green fringes getting hit the hardest. It wouldn’t be so bad if those areas were mowed more than once a week. There must be a local rule not to rake the bunkers or provide the slightest maintenance, the best lies in them are on the clumps of grass growing in nearly everyone. The greens were slow and bumpy with un-repaired pitch marks all over. The tee boxes are a sandy mess and littered with tee shards. It’s very difficult to find flat place to to tee up from.
I will be requesting a refund and that GolfNow remove this course from the menu until it improves. There are far better options close by.
Rural Golf Course
Booked this course last minute due to schedule change. It is located an hour north of Orlando near a small town. Greens were fair.but fairways not yet recovered from winter. Clubhouse and restrooms need a lot of updating. Prices in pro shop and restaurant were very reasonable. To be fair, at that location the revenue may not support the cost to update. One thing the owner could do at no cost is take down the signs that cover most walls and counters. While some signage is necessary, there are so many here that they are annoying and not customer friendly!
Dried out
Was quite hot the day we played and the course looked to be suffering - particularly the roughs. In some places no rough grass at all and the bunkers, which I found many, were in very poor condition. In bad need of some maintenance. The 18th hole also needs a bailout area to make it playable. A poorly deigned hole
What a Fun Round!
Despite the distance to get to this gem, I HIGHLY recommend the Black Bear Golf Club. While not overly long, the slope of the course, and the small greens make the course challenging but fun. Can't wait to get back there.
P.S. Please get a beverage cart on the course next time. :)
Nice condition, nice course.
Good value. Very nice condition, fairways and roughs. Greens pretty good. Tough layout, some winding fairways, well placed bunkers, water. Overall, excellent value.
Rough around the edges.
Not maintained well close to the fairways. Greens in pretty. Ad shape given this time of year. Fun layout. Too many super thin lies around greens and just off fairways
Good course, challenging greens.
The course is is good shape, dried out in some areas, to be expected this time of year. Greens are small, elevated, and will test your putting. lots of hills uneven lies, good for shot making.
Seen Better Days
Played this golf course when it opened and liked it. Now the conditions are below average and the greens are smaller.
Links style
The course would be a whole lot more interesting with some trees. Number 18 needs a bale out area in the worst way. Bad design
