Golfer Reviews
Do not play here 🤮 Bad bad course!!!
Weeds all in the greens and cannot make one putt 🤪 Not worth one penny 🙏 Play somewhat else!!!
Bad business and horrible customer service
Had a tee time for 4 golfers, 1 couldn’t show up. At the pro shop we notified the staff that only 3 were playing they were fine with it.
Three days later i get a charge from golfNow for a no-show, called golf now and got told to call the course, called the course and got told to read the terms of golf now and that they don’t advise the pro shop staff to share this information so golfers don’t “make” a scene at the pro shop.
Very clever
Illegal Tees
Black Bear is already a Dye-abolical course. It didn't need any help. But the pins on some holes were in frankly illegal positions. Balls placed on the ground next to the hole rolled 8-10 feet away. The greens-keeper needs to be admonished.
Greens were true and (too) fast. Due to the severe slopes, slower greens would have been in order. Fairways were good. Some of the bunkers (#12, anyone?) were quite ratty.
Consistent
If you’ve ever played Black Bear in the last two/three years then you should know what to expect. The greens were good for the most part, as well as the fairways and tee boxes. The conditions were good, not great but definitely worth a round. I’d definitely play it again real soon and the layout is always enjoyable. The elevation changes this course provides, the openness, and the consistent good conditions will always bring me back. If you’re playing this course for the first time, my advice to you is to BRING YOUR SHORT GAME! You’ll definitely need to be on point on this course with their small and elevated greens. Your short game can make or break you on this course.
Slow pace, challenging course
Caught in moments where we had to wait 15-20 min for our approach shots because it took a long time for the group ahead to get off the greens, groups ahead of them were also waiting to tee off.
Ton of hills, tee shots are key and hopefully luck is on your side to find a flat surface.
Also, if you book a 4 some and someone doesn’t show, you will still be charged the full greens fee. Don’t get screwed like I did.
Pace of play very good, greens and fairways excellent
Fun round
A Pete Dye course highly shaped and contoured to often small greens - super layout that never gets near the houses, even for those if us tending towards the wild! Course has seen better days - lot's of thick grass clumps in the fairways and even some if it creeping into greens. Greens were slow but ran true. Good value though for what we paid for the round.
Clubhouse staff were great - we felt really welcome.
The policies of the golf course are clearly written and every golfer is presented these policies Prior to booking their tee time and during the booking process (this is why all of our tee times are required to be made online so that these policies are presented up front before booking - they are actually presented to the customer at least three times during the booking process and then again in the confirmation email that is sent). Each golfer that books is required to click a box that says “I have read and agree to the policies of the club”. It clearly states that you are responsible for the tee times you book for and you have up until 24 hours before your time to cancel with no charge.
When a golfer books a tee time for 4 golfers and then only shows up with three people and doesn’t tell the course until they are checking in for their time that gives the golf course No time to try and sell that tee time and recoup the revenue lost. There is a level of respect that a customer owes to a business to agree to pay for the item they bought when the business can no longer sell the item. Instead of having total disregard for the business the that loss of revenue they have just caused. Every golfer also has the access in their confirmation email to cancel their tee time up until 24 hours before. Unfortunately if multiple groups did this everyday that is an extreme loss of revenue to the golf course. We hope that golfers booking tee times (at any golf course) are responsible adults who read the business policies of what they are buying and not take it out on the business when these policies are clearly stated before booking and the customer agreed to it. Unfortunately this day in age with the extreme increases in costs, materials, labor etc a golf course cannot sustain a business for long when customers book and then don’t show. Bad business practice would be if the customer was not notified of the policies, this is clearly not the case.
