A little dark, but black bear in a dark tree, hole # 6...appropriate for Black Bear Golf Club! Photo submitted by relivgolfers on 09/29/2013
Great course; friendly staff
This is about our 3rd time on this course. Love the fairways and the course layout. Some challenging holes, but fun times. We're paired with 2 others today and had a great round. Will be back!
Good Different
First time playing this course and I was pleasantly surprised. When playing this course as opposed to most others in Florida, you learn to appreciate staying dry through out the round. The only hole with water is the last 18th. My experience taught me that it’s best to play the fairway bunkers by just hitting your SW back into the fairway. The sand is soft and dry now that we’re in the middle of the dry season. The fairways are wide, well kept and perfect if you have a mean slice. The greens are challenging with different slopes, but also well kept and fast. Overall it was a great time playing this course and would certainly play it again.
Customer service unacceptable
Visit on 12/31/20
I have played this course plenty in the past 2 years, usually with no issue and a quiet round. Being so far out of the city you expect a quiet, subdued round of golf. For $45 the course played well, was fair and the greens rolled very smooth.
My buddy and I were paired with 2 older gentlemen, no issue with them, they were pleasant, played a bit slow and lacked common golf etiquette, but were very nice. One of the older gentlemen quit after 9 holes. We flagged the beverage cart down on 7 and 13 for a beer as well a stopping at the turn for a beer and a hot dog and went straight back to the course, eating our food along the way. We got to the 14th hole and the "ranger" comes out... and starts by saying "Not sure what happened here fellas but you're 2 holes behind the group in front of you, we need you to pick up the pace" I looked behind us and the next group was more than 1.5 holes behind us... so I said that and was rebutted with, "you need to pick up the pace so your group doesn't back up the course"
I shrugged it off as an employee that was having a bad day and resumed play, definitely more irritated and having less fun over the rude employee. We finished our round at 4 hours an 40 minutes, not bad for taking a quick break at the turn. My buddy went in to talk to management about the incident with the "ranger" only to find out the "ranger" was the Owner...
To think the owner would approach a group that wasn't holding anyone up and complain about pace of play is absurd. Would you rather us not buy beer and food from the clubhouse?? Not once in our round did ANYONE behind us wait to hit a golf ball for even a second.
I understand that the new owner has made leaps and bounds with the quality of the course, but that shouldn't translate to the customer feeling mistreated. I would like to think I would come back and play.. purely for the golf course, but at this point I'm not sure I will... I would much rather spend money where the people there appreciate my money being spent.
Great Course- better staff
Big thank you to the staff at black bear. From the pro shop to the grille we were treated like members. 100% will be back and 100% recommending to others

Black Bear
Enjoy course. Overall in good shape. Variety of holes. Greens a challenge to hit.
Growling Bear
Great day at Black Bear with a friend. The greens were slick and pin placements very difficult. Course knowledge here is worth shots truly. The course is primed for winter play and the guys at Black Bear from the GM to the maintenance guys are super friendly and customer service oriented. Always a pleasure and will be back soon.
Black Bear was thirsty
Overall happy with the course conditions with the exception of greens extremely dry.
Always fun....but play was slow.
Fairways and greens in great shape. Rough dormant.
Pace was slow due tournament in front of us.
